Chapter 23: I Will Rescue You

"When I die, don't come near my dead body because my hands will not be able to wipe your tears anymore"

"After you left she was smiling and having googly eyes at Peter". Simon said to Anita as he was standing against the railing looking down at Anita who was sitting down on the stairs inside the school.

"Can you blame her?"  Anita asked him, working on her government homework.

Simon's lips turned into a thin smile, shaking his head.  "No.  I did the same thing with my sister.  I just wanted to make sure she would be ok". Simon looked at one of the teenagers that was walking their way. The teenager gave Anita a weird look and all Simon did was blow on the side of his face when he was close enough. It caused the teenage boy to jump back in confusion and fear before walking faster.

Anita leaned forward in her spot as she watched the boys retreating figure with a hidden smile.  "I love you".  Anita said to Simon with full honesty.

Simon looked back to her with a look of peace on his face.  "I love you too, Birdie".

Silence engulfed them once more as Anita went back to answering her government homework. When Anita heard deer walking her way she thought it was going to be Stiles or someone to pester her but she was wrong.

"I'm honestly surprised that you haven't been arrested...again".  Anita looked up to Derek, telling him honestly with a straight face.

"Nice to see you too". Derek stayed in his spot.

Anita scooted over, closer to the railing, patting the spot next to her.  Simon watched from his spot as Derek took a seat next to her, their shoulders brushing as he sat down.  This caused Simon to smile.

"I'm here to make sure your English teacher wasn't loosing her mind".  Derek said to her.

"I know".  Anita tilted her head to the side as she started to write her answers down again.  Derek gave her a confused look, but then soon realized that it must of been Simon.  He took in the consideration that it could have been Clarice, but Anita hasn't mentioned her in awhile.  He wanted to ask but didn't want to make her upset.

"Simon said she was flirting with you".  Anita told him in a monotone voice, not looking at him.

"She wasn't flirting". Derek reassured her.

"I know flirting when I see it".

"He knows flirting when he sees it"

Simon and Anita both said at the same time.  Anita was still writing but it soon stopped when Derek reached over and grabbed her pen from her fingers.  Anita then looked to him with a look.  She wanted that pen back.

"You're jealous".

Anita snorted at his comment.

"Jealous?  No.  I don't like her because she radiates cynical".

"You know, I like it when you use vocabulary I don't understand". Derek smiled to her as he clicked the pen a few times.

"Cynical means that they are someone who are motivated by their own self interest, they are untrustworthy-"

Anita was unable to finish giving Derek a new vocabulary word when his lips were suddenly on hers. Anita immediately smiled into the kiss but it didn't last long as someone interrupted and that someone wasn't a ghost.

"Holy shit".

The two pulled away seeing Isaac looking between the two, his one hand holding his backpack strap over his shoulder.

"Yeah, uh...I don't know why I said that.  I'm not surprised by..." Isaac gestured to the two of them.

"Isaac". Anita finally spoke.

"Yeah?" He put his hand back down to his side.

"Can you not tell anyone?" She asked him softly.

Isaac's eyebrows knitted together in confusion not understanding why but nodded nonetheless.  "I should get to locker room, I'm already late". Isaac then headed off.

Simon looked to Anita than to Isaac's retreating figure and than back to Anita. "I'll keep an eye on him today". Simon than walked after Isaac.

"Simon is going to tag along with you!" Anita called out to him with a wide smile.

"Great". Isaac sighed under his breath, causing Derek to smile.

Anita suddenly shot her head back over to Isaac before scrambling to put her stuff in her bag.  "Merda!  I'm late for PE!"  Anita stood up, zipping her bag, Derek following suit.  Anita was about to go but Derek grabbed her arm, pulling him towards her.

Derek held the pen up with a smile.

"Thank you".  Anita smiled at him, grabbing the pen before turning around to leave.

"Have fun". Derek called to her

"Simon isn't really following me around, right?"  Isaac asked Anita as he watched her stretch.

"He did in the locker room but now that I'm here he isn't".  Anita pulled at the bottom of her foot.

"You know I wouldn't tell".

"I know.  Buuuuut you might accidentally let it slip".  Anita looked up at him, switching legs.

Isaac gave her an unamused look.

Anita looked down before pointing to his shoe.  "Shoe is untied".

Isaac kneeled down to tie his shoe while Anita stood up to give her more space.  She told Isaac earlier that she would be running by herself because that was just how she liked it.  "Sorry".  Anita apologized to one of the twins when she bumped into him.

The whistle suddenly blew and Anita took off along with the other students.

"PACE YOURSELVES!  COME ON!"  Coach shouted to them.

As Anita was running up the hill, passing some students she saw Isaac pass her and chase after the twins soon noticing they were going the wrong way.

I'll ask later

She thought to herself, turning down the path.  She picked up her speed and after a few minutes she looked behind noticing some runners were a bit further behind her.

When Anita turned back around to the front she saw someone that she would pass in the hallways standing in front of her.

"Help me". He spoke and shoved Anita down a hill, causing her to roll.  She stretched her arms out to stop herself, only touching something that wasn't a tree.

She barley made out the images as it was too fast compared to everything else that she saw before.

Screaming

Garrote

Blood

And a face of something she had never seen before

Anita breathed out heavily, as she was sitting on the ground, her arms were still stretched out.  Anita took her hands away from the figure, seeing the blood on her hands.

"I'm going to regret this".  Anita whispered as she looked up seeing a dead body strapped to a tree.

"Help me".  The voice whispered again right by her ear, causing her to scream.

"Is that me?"  The ghost asked walking up to his own body.

Anita stayed where she was at, getting her breathing under control and then the ghost went back to her.

"You have to help me. You have to tell my parents".

Anita started to scoot back, further up the hill, her bloody hand reaching out to him, telling him to stop.

"I-I will try. You just-"

"I NEED HELP!" He screamed at her, causing her to flinch.

He then stopped. His facial expressions dropping and then looked back to his body. "No..."

He looked down to her one last time. "It's too late to help me".

And then he was gone.

A variety of feet running sounded and one of them was getting closer to her. Then a pair of arms wrapped around her torso, hoisting her up.

"You alright?" Stiles looked to her worriedly.

"I saw him". Anita whispered, looking at the ground. "He was so scared. More than usual for a ghost". She explained before looking back up to the body, noticing the rest of the runners were standing around.

Scott and Isaac soon joined the two.

"It's him.  Isn't it?"  Stiles asked Scott.

"Hey, get out of the way.  Get back."  Sheriff Stilinski came running up the hill, pushing a student further away.

"Get this area cordoned off before they trample every piece of evidence".  He ordered.

"Back up!  Everyone back!"  A deputy yelled to them.

Isaac walked over to Anita, noticing some scrapes on her arms and legs before looking at the blood on her hands.

"He pushed me".  Anita said softly to Isaac.  "Him".  She explained further, her eyes on the body.

"Get these kids out of here!"  Sheriff Stilinski yelled, walking over to their group as Stiles went up to his dad.

Anita breathed in relief wanting to get this blood off her.  Her head was also hurting and she felt exhausted.

"Dad, just come here.  Look.  Look.  Look at it".  Stiles pulled his dad over to the body and pointed.  "It's the same as the others.  You see?"

"Yeah.  I see that.  Do me a favor.  Go back to school.  Yeah?"  Stilinski told his son then turned to Coach.  "Coach, can you give us a hand here?"

"You heard the man.  Nothing to see here.  Probably just some homeless kid."

"Coach".  Scott looked to him.

"Yeah?"

"He was a senior".

"Oh".  Coach sighed.  "He wasn't on the team, was he?"

A scream went off again but this time it wasn't Anita. "Kyle! Oh. God. Kyle!" The deputy had to hold the girl back. "Oh, God!"

"Go on. Go". Stilinski pushed his son back gently.

Isaac walked beside Anita, making sure she wouldn't fall down the hill as they walked.

"You see the way the twins looked at him?" Isaac asked the group as he kept an eye on the twins looking at the body.

"Yeah, you mean like they had no idea what happened?" Stiles spoke up.

"No. No. They knew". Isaac's hatred for the twins brewed even more.

"The kid was strangled with a garrote.  All right?  Am I the only one recognizing the lack of 'werewolfitude' in these murders?"  Stiles looked to Isaac and then to his other two friends.

"Stiles.  It was the same thing that happened to the guy at the pool".  Anita turned to Stiles slightly.  She agreed with him.  This was no wolf.

"So you two think it's a coincidence they turn up and then people start dying?"

"Well, no, but I still don't think it's them".  Stiles commented as all four came to a stop.

"Scott?"  Stiles asked as his best friend hasn't said a word.

"How 'bout you?"

"I don't know yet".

"You don't know yet?"  Stiles crossed his arms over his chest.

"Whelp.  While you try to figure this out.  I'm washing my hands".  Anita held up her bloody hands that were now starting to dry before walking away.  As she walked away she could hear Stiles ranting about how Scott's eyes glow like glow sticks and hair coming out of his cheeks.

~~~
After Anita scrubbed her hands off in the bathroom, sure if she scrubbed them anymore her hands would become raw she said "screw it" and checked herself out of school.
When she entered the loft she saw Derek was sitting on the ground, blood on his torso and all the ground while Cora was beside him.
"I guess today just isn't our day?" Anita said, gaining their attention.
"Deucalion".  Derek told her.
"And Ennis and Kali".  Cora chimed in, looking at Anita.  "What happened to you?"
"Found a body in PE".  Anita said like it was nothing.
"You okay?"  Derek asked her, worried laced in his voice.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?  You're the one that's still healing".  Anita looked at the blood that stained his shirt.
"Isaac can't stay here".  Derek changed the conversation.  Again.  Worried about someone else over himself.
"Just tell him the truth".  Anita said.  "Derek, you can't keep this whole alpha thing a secret.  Isaac is already on edge".  Anita crossed her arms over her chest.
"It would just worry him more".  Derek slowly stood up with the help from his sister.
That night Anita and Cora were upstairs catching up with one another.  Anita told her how she was in Eichen House for most of her life after the fire and everything with ghost related.  Cora told Anita how Clarice was the one that saved her life in the fire and how it was like to be alone for years.
There conversation soon stopped when Anita heard yelling than the sound of glass breaking.  Anita already knew that Derek was talking to Isaac because he texted her that he got back to the loft.
"Anita".  Cora looked to her friend.
Anita was quick to scramble out of her spot on the bed and make her downstairs.  Anita stopped at the bottom of the stairs, he one hand on the banister as she looked at Derek's figure looking out the stormy window to broken glass.
"You didn't".  Anita spoke, knowing Isaac's back story.
"I had to get him out".  Derek spoke with no emotion, not moving his gaze.
Anita glared at the back of his head as she made his way over to him.  Derek hearing her coming closer turned to face her, not meeting her gaze because he didn't want to see the anger on her face.
Derek knew he screwed up as soon as that glass left his hand but he wouldn't admit it.  Not to Isaac and maybe not even to Anita.  But he did it because he wanted to protect Isaac.
"You didn't tell him the reason".
"He left".
"Derek".  Anita hissed his name and Derek flinched at that.
Anita then let a deep breath out. "We can fix this". Anita than reassured him. As much as she was disappointed at Derek she knew his reason even if it was the wrong approach. "I'm going to call Isaac to make sure he's alright". Anita breathed.
Anita started to walk away, grabbing out her phone.
"Anita".
She turned back to Derek.
"I think it's best if you don't come here all the time until this is over".
Anita could see the plead and worry in his facial features and she nodded. "I think so too". She couldn't help but agree and made her way back upstairs.
**I just watched Ghost this morning. I love that movie so much. I cry every time**
