Chapter 14: Jealousy

"There are too many ghosts walking this earth.  They weigh heavy on the living"

Anita had a boyfriend.

Charlie asked her at the end of the movie and of course being a young girl head over heels for the first time, she said yes.

And it made her happy.

They had been dating for a little over a month and spent majority of time together. Simon of course would third wheel once and awhile.

If Anita wasn't with Charlie she was by herself, but surprisingly she was hanging out with Isaac more. The two enjoyed each other's company.

"Three more months left". Isaac spoke happily as they made their way to the loft where Derek moved too recently. Isaac, of course moved in with him as he had no where else to go.

"I'm ready for summer break". Anita admitted.

"You were barley even here for the whole year". Isaac made his way up the stairs, Anita following after him as her hand slid on the banister as she walked.

"Still ready". Anita breathed out as she stood behind Isaac as he unlocked the door, letting her in first. Anita took a few steps in and stopped, waiting for Isaac to give her further directions.

"What are you going to do after you graduate?" Isaac asked as he locked and closed the door, gesturing for her to follow.

"Don't know". Anita answered bluntly, following him. It was silent for a bit, Anita looking at the back of Isaacs head as she followed him.

"You know I can introduce you to Charlie". Anita offered.

"Mmmm. No thanks". Isaac declined quickly.

"Whose Charlie?" Derek's voice got both of their attention.

He was standing in the main room, his arms crossed over his chest as he had his usual look on his face.

"Anita's boyfriend". Isaac pointed to her, going over to get something to drink.

Derek looked to her with a surprise look. "You have a boyfriend?"

"Hello Derek. How are you Derek? Love the new place". Anita smiled widely as she made her way over to where he stood, taking a seat on the couch.

Derek only let a small grin pass his lips as he said; "Hi Anita"

And then he was back to his usual look.

"And yes, I do".  Anita leaned forward in her spot as she looked at Derek and then leaned back once she said her comment.

Derek was about to say something when Isaac came over holding a muffin with a smile.  "You want a cinnamon muffin?"  Isaac asked, holding it out to her.

Derek walked over quickly, grabbing the muffin from Isaacs hand.

"Hey!"  Isaac looked to Derek while Derek gave Isaac a look before looking to Anita.

"She's allergic to cinnamon". Derek told him as if he should have known.

"I-wh-sorry". Isaac's head kept going back and forth between the two.

"It's ok. You didn't know". Anita reassured him.

"Is there anything else I should know so I don't kill you?"  Isaac asked slowly, his scared look still evident on his face.

"You wouldn't have killed me".  Anita shook her head as she spoke.

"You could've killed her".  Derek nodded his head right after her comment.

Anita snapped her head at Derek and gave him a serious look, only for Derek to shrug.

The two both knew he wasn't wrong but Anita didn't want to freak Isaac out anymore then he already was.

"It's just cinnamon.  It's a stupid allergy".  Anita tried to reassure Isaac.

"One time she ate cinnamon at my house and she started coughing, then it turned into wheezing and her face got all red.  Luckily, her sister was there".  Derek told Isaac the story.  He remembered it very clearly.

Of course he forgot what exactly Laura made but it had cinnamon in it.  Anita was too young to pay attention to her allergies and Clarice stepped out of the room for a moment to talk to Peter.  Next thing he knew, Anita dropped the fork and started to cough tremendously;

The Hale family all turned to look at Anita who kept on coughing.  Laura who was closest to Anita leaned over and started to pat her back.

"Wrong pipe?"  Laura asked and Anita only shook her head, 'no'.

"Drink some water".  Derek tried to help.

Anita's coughing soon turned into wheezing and then her face began to turn red.  Clarice came in the room, Peter following after her.  Clarice turned Anita's chair around to face her.

"Anita?"  Clarice questioned and her face turned to worry as she looked at the dish and took a few bites.

"Shit!"  Clarice almost tripped over her own feet as she rushed to get her purse.

"Clarice?"  Derek questioned slowly as Anita seemed to be getting worse.

Clarice rushed back into the room, kneeling down to Anita while the Hale family started to talk and ask questions. Basically one giant shit show going on. Clarice quickly injected the EpiPen into Anita's left leg while she rubbed her shoulder gently.

Anita soon started to breath heavily and the red from her face slowly disappeared. "You okay?" Clarice asked quietly and Anita nodded her head.

"Ok. I'm going to drive her to the hospital. Peter, can you..." Clarice trailed off as she stood back up.

"Yup". Peter walked over to Anita and picked her up from the chair and carried her to Clarice's car.

"I should've checked or told".  Clarice closed her eyes and pinched her forehead for a moment before looking at Laura.  "Anita is allergic to cinnamon".

"Clarice.  I-"

"It's my fault Laura.  It slipped my mind.  I-I have to go".  Clarice let out a deep breath before exiting the kitchen and then exiting the house where Anita was breathing heavily in the back seat and Peter was waiting in the drivers seat.

The next hour and a half, Anita did homework with Isaac. Majority of it was Isaac helping her since she barley knew anything.

"I should get home". Anita told Isaac as she put her things back in the bag.

"I'll drive you". Derek was quick to offer and Anita gave him a thankful smile while Isaac narrowed his eyes at Derek.

"I'll join". Isaac spoke.

"You get the back". Derek grabbed his keys and held open the door for Anita.

Once Derek pulled up to the front of Anita's house they noticed none of her parents cars were in the driveway.

"Work?" Derek asked her.

"Yup". Anita popped the 'p' as she looked over to him. She put her hand on the door handle but stopped when she noticed Clarice standing in the driveway staring at the car.

Anita took a deep breath before opening the door.  "Thanks Derek.  See you tomorrow, Isaac".  Anita smiled at the two before hoping out.

"Anita".

Anita heard her sister call out to her but Anita didn't say anything.  She didn't even look at her but walked up to the door as she fumbled with her keys.  She could feel her sisters presence right behind her and Anita tried to stay calm as there were still two werewolves in a car.

"Anita.  Where's mom and dad?"

Clarice's voice sent goosebumps to her skin.  Anita finally unlocked the door, slamming the door in her dead sisters face.

Derek watched her close the door while Isaac moved to the front of the seat as he turned to look at Derek.

"What?"  Derek was clearly annoyed by his starring.

"I can't believe it took me this long but you like her".  Isaac pointed at him.

"Don't be stupid".

"You know everything about her". Isaac moved in his seat.

"Family friends".  Derek groaned.

"Family friends usually turn into lovers".  Isaac pointed again.

"Stop talking".  Derek huffed.

"Didn't want to test her to see she was the Kanima, remembers she's allergic to cinnamon after a one time thing, and your mood is always better when she's around".  Isaac kept going on.

"I'm going to throw you out the car"

"And, you're jealous she's dating someone".  Isaac smiled widely as he figured it all out.

Next thing Isaac knew, he was standing on the side of the road as he watched Derek speed away.

"Really?"
