chapter 11. And then there were none!
CHAPTER 11...part 2
(Died in your Arms (epic trailer version) — Hidden Citizens)
DISAPPOINTMENT.
A word used to express great displeasure or sadness when one's exceptions remain unfulfilled, used to express Kara Bennetts' emotions at that very moment. Years, spent away from family, friends, loved ones, and all she had to show for it was just that disappointment.
Now, she was sitting in her car, Kai in the passenger side as they drove to New Orleans, her mind stressed as she thought of how the rest of her family would react. What would they say when they found out that Inadu can't be killed?
The drive seemed shorter than it should've been, her anxieties warping the time around her. But, every ounce of worry and dread dissipated as soon as she stepped out of the car and she was met with Hope walking out the front door.
Her bourbon eyes lit up, "Kara!" She exclaimed, running towards the heretic, "you're back!" Hope engulfed Kara in a tight hug, squealing in delight.
The Benett witch chuckled at that, running her fingers through the younger girls hair.
A gust of wind hit them as Alek vamp sped towards them. Even though he had only seen her an hour prior, Alek still found himself overjoyed to see her. They stared at one another, gazes electric, brown clashing with grey as a soft mist filled their eyes.
He whispered her name, his sweet voice drizzling in the air like honey filling her senses in ecstasy, He grasped her chin in his hand softly, pulling her into a kiss. Hope had long since moved away from Karas arms, running towards the house to announce Karas' arrival.
"Fuck, I've missed you." She whispered, her arms wrapped around his neck. He smiled at that, and her heart fluttered as he wrapped her in his arms, holding her close to him, tucking his head in her hair.
The Mikaelsons excited the house, Hayley sprinting towards Kara to wrap her in her arms, "Don't ever do that again Bennett." She said, happy tears slurring her words.
Kara laughed once more, "I wouldn't dream of it." She pivoted her body, gesturing to Kai to walk over to her. "This is Kai," She said, wrapping her arm around his shoulder (an act that gave Alek a tinge of jealousy), "He's been helping me find a spell for a few years."
Kai, noticing Aleks glare towards him, said. "Calm down fido," He smirked out, "Ara's my sister and we aren't exactly in Alabama." He spoke, humming the lyrics to 'Sweet Home Alabama as they made their way into the house.
They say that joy is sort lived, that all good things must come to an end. And yet, it still surprised the Mikaelsons, Marshall and Benett when Kara told them Inadu couldn't die.
She told them that there was nothing that could be done, that all they could do was sit and wait for the answer to be made known.
And so, they waited, days turning into weeks as they sat idly by for the answers. Until one night, as Kara lay in Aleks arms, having a particularly weird dream.
***
She looked around, only to be met with her old hut. Her bunny plush from all those years ago lay worn and tattered on the ground, her family's table broken on the ground.
"Kara." She turned around, seeing Ayana walking towards her, "How you've grown child."
"Why am I here?" Kara cut in, far to on edge to even think about.
"It's time for you to know." Ayana spoke, leading her out of the hut and into the fields. Kara trailed behind her, weary of the witch before her.
"One night, when you had long fallen asleep, your father had come to Esther for guidance." She began, intriguing Kara with her words.
"But, when he was walking towards the entrance, he heard something that cost him everything."
Kara, confused, furrowed her brow. But, before she could ask, Ayana turned to her, eyes glassy, "He was protecting you."
Moving her eyesight to the scene before her, she saw her father arguing with his mother, enraged as she tried to explain her vial actions to him.
"No, I won't allow it!" He bellowed, his voice surely waking the entire village. "She is a child you wench, she should not have to bear this weight!"
"It is for the greater good Elijah, what was I meant to do?"
" She is not a coin to be bartered."
He entered their hut, quickly moving to pack their things, "I am not bartering her! What is one life compared to thousands Elijah!"
"It would destroy mine!"
It was silent for a moment, Esther taking in his words as he kept moving around, hastily packing their belongings.
She watched as he packed, admiring him as he went out of his way to protect his daughter. She had tears in her eyes, "I am sorry," She spoke before removing his memories of that night.
***
She woke with a start, gasping for air, she knew what needed to be done. And so, with a heavy heart, she left, writing a letter to her father, her uncles, her aunts, her Alek. She stepped into her car, driving towards the most powerful area of new orleans.
Upon arrival, she set up candles, drawing a circle and placing the 4 wicks around evenly.
She sat down, legs crossed as she removed a small knife, slicing up her forearm before performing the same on her other arm.
She began chanting, each word louder than the rest, as the blazes began rising as well.
Her head was tilted upwards, pain evident as she chanted louder and louder.
She stopped, breathing heavily as she felt the new presence in her soul, "it's now or never." She croaked out, swallowing deeply as she stood on shaky legs.
She removed the white dagger, its blades imbedded with witch and rose oil. It glistened against the moonlight, its dangerous motives becoming beautiful as it glowed.
And, just like Juliet, Kara raised the dagger to her chest, moving quickly to end it all before, "Kara!"
"Alek..." Kara spoke softly, almost whispering his name, as she caressed his face. He in turn leaned into her touch, salted tears falling rhythmically.
"What are you doing vita mia?" He asked, breathing heavily alarmed when he had not seen Kara by his side, scared when he saw the note and frantic when he ran to find her, worried that she left him whence more.
She pressed a shaky kiss on his forehead, "1000 years seems long enough mon amour." She chuckled out. Though, the laugh was drowned out by sobs as she tried to hold in her emotions. Despite being alive for as long as she has, the prospect of death frightened her terribly.
"Not long enough," Alek shook out, quickly grasping her face in his hands. "We can find another way Kara...please." He whispered the last part out, placing his forehead against her own.
Grey crashed with Brown as her tear filled eyes met his, "she needs to leave," she shuttered out, pure agony and frustration filling her tone. " and we both know this is the only way."
"Why must you be so selfless Angelo." He managed to speak out, smiling despite the odds.
"Je t'aime plus que la vie elle-même mon amour" she sniffled out, using her thumbs to catch his tears before they fell. "Now quickly," she said, grasping a small bottle towards Alek. "Take this."
"What is it?" He asked, brows furrowed.
"I think you already know." She said, shooting him a pained smile as she pressed the elixir into his hands, one hand cradling his as the other laced his fingers.
"You know I can't Kara." He shook out, "I can't."
But Kara wasn't listening, "y-you need to move on, after everything, you need to find it in yourself to move on from me." Tears were streaming down both husband and wife's faces, steadily falling to the floor.
"Kara, no no no," Alek began, shaking his head, trying to rid his mind of such a preposterous idea, "I'm with you until the end of the line, you know this vita mia.." he managed to croak out the remainder of his statement, running his fingers softly through her hair.
Kara leaned into the touch, closing her eyes in pure content. "Alek..." Kara spoke softly, almost whispering his name, as she caressed his face. He in turn leaned into her touch, salted tears falling rhythmically.
Kara leaned into the touch, closing her eyes in pure contentment. They stood like that for a while, just holding one another as the world kept turning, staying in a moment only meant for the pair.
"The stars look beautiful tonight." He spoke out, a mere whisper in the grand scheme of things.
"Truly." She responded in a similar fashion.
Alek grasped her hand within his own, beginning to sway from side to side — dancing one last time.
"Somewhere else, a guy is dancing with his girl under the stars and he thinks he had all the time in the world," He tilted his head downward, holding her cheeks as they both cried. "God I hate that guy."
"I love you." She cried, sobbing into his chest as she prepared the dagger once more. He kissed her again, taking in everything about her as he bent to grab the very knife she used moments ago, raising it in a similar fashion.
"I will love you," He spoke in a whisper, "until my very last breath."
They both began to slam down their weapons, piercing their hearts. They began to desiccate, appearing like two stone statues, and craved to be with one another for eternity.
And that was when Elijah showed up, running towards the pair in hopes that he could still save his little girl. But it was too late, and all Elijah could do was cry at the feet of the girl who sacrificed herself, his little one.
Because, as this father mourned the loss of his daughter and her love, he learned that its always Easier to forget the ghosts of your past.
***
Kol Mikaelson can attest to the fact that having your magic ripped away is more painful than death. To feel the energy of the earth and all her nature die within your soul is gut wrenching.
He supposed he had made peace with it a long while ago, covering the scars with unquenchable blood lust. Kara Bennett had helped with that, allowing her magic to flow in him, even if for just a moment.
What he did not know, however, was that he could have that feeling once more. Kara, throughout her long years learned that in the event of her passing, the earth — the ancestors, would absorb her magic.
But to Kara, Kol deserved that power more than anyone.
So, she casted a spell.
La morte fa parte di me ma sorge dentro di te
La morte fa parte di me ma sorge dentro di te
La morte fa parte di me ma sorge dentro di te!
He felt a burning first, extending from his finger tips up his biceps, a sickening crack within his head as he began to scream.
"Kol?" Davina exclaimed, rushing to his side quickly.
He knew this feeling, the feeling of life rushing to his core — and worst of all, he knew exactly how he got it.
"She's dead." He spoke out, tears threatening to leave his eyes.
"Kara Bennetts gone."
THE END
KOREY SPEAKS !
holy shit.
Words cannot describe how I am feeling at this moment. Originally this is just a silly little fanfic, it wasn't even that big of a deal to me. But now, now it's like watching my own child growing up before my eyes.
It's bittersweet, to see the ending and to realize that this is the end of a saga.
I'll be posting an epilogue tonight, so stay tuned for that.
