Chapter 6
3rd Person POV
Jay massaged the bridge of his nose as he filled out the boxes on the blaring screens of the old computer. His phone was put away from him, switched off, so he wouldn't be distracted by the new Fritz Donnegan video game that had come out.
He sighed as he typed in the date and his name, before printing out the sheet and slipping it into the folder. He grinned in relief as he sipped from his flask of cold coffee. Reaching over, he picked up his phone, switching it on after a long day. As the lockscreen came to life, he saw all the notifications coming in.
2 missed calls from Nya <3
Jay swiped across to unlock the phone just as his employer entered the office, "Jay. Just got a call from your wife. She says you weren't answering. Seems like something happened and the police are involved. You done for the day?"
Jay blinked; what in FSM had he missed?!
"Uh...yeah. Just packing up now. I'm heading home now. Thanks, Boss."
"Have a nice night, Jay."
"You too."
Hurriedly shoving everything into his bag, he grabbed his flask and lanyard. before heading to the elevator. Waiting for the metal double doors to open was torture. His wife could be in danger and he was stuck here waiting for the stupid elevator.
The bell dinged and he immediately stepped in, pressing the button for the garage floor. As the metal box descended, he paced back and forth worriedly, biting his lip until he drew blood.
What was taking so long?!
He double-checked to make sure that the elevator was moving; yup, he could feel it going down. But why so slow?
He sipped more coffee, in hopes that it would calm his nerves. It helped...sorta. Nya didn't approve of his love for coffee, but then again, both of them had the same craving for it. Oh no, what if she was getting rid of the coffee and cut her hand on the glass and was bleeding out-
Snap out of it, Jay!
"Oh FSM..." he muttered, rapidly pushing the button for the garage floor.
"Garage. Doors opening."
"Yes!" He cheered as the doors opened. He rushed out and located the navy blue jeep neatly parked away. Unlocking it, he dumped his belongings into the backseat, before jumping into the drivers' seat, starting up the engine, speeding out of the garage, and down the empty roads. Speeding up more, he zoomed down the roads, taking the shortcut which he always considered to be scary.
"Think positive..." he muttered, drumming his hands on the wheel impatiently. Reaching over, he switched on the radio, and the song played out.
And all I am...is a man
I want the world, in my hands.
I hate the beach, but I stand,
In California with my toes in the sand.
Use the sleeves of my sweater, let's have an adventure
Head in the clouds, but my gravity's centered.
Touch my neck, and I'll touch yours.
You in those little high-waisted shorts, oh...
The song played on as Jay attempted to nod his head to the beat, driving at a more reasonable speed, humming to the beat.
Not long now...
He could see the lights flood out from their home, a police car out in the driveway. Parking it on the curb, he jumped out, not bothering about his stuff, and ran inside.
"Nya? Nya, I'm here!"
He ran into the living room where Nya sat opposite two police officers. She had a beige blanket draped around her shoulders, as the officers took her statement.
"So...an invisible person ate your sandwich and wrote you a message in your mirror and an invisible bird flew into your window?"
"Well when you say it like that it sounds stupid!" Nya huffed. Jay rushed over and sat beside her, "What's going on?"
"Well, your wife here claims someone may have broken into your home. Her sandwich was stolen and she stated she could, and I quote, 'Hear laughter nearby,' and the words 'I SEE YOU' were written on the mirror, but when we went to check, there was nothing there. Same with this bird she keeps rambling about."
Jay clicked his teeth, "We got these locks replaced the minute we bought the house, and there's a top notch security system in place."
One of the officers leaned in and whispered to Jay, "Upon looking around, I couldn't help but notice that your wife has been prescribed with some pills for her pregnancy, and one of the side effects include hallucinations...you get the idea, don't you?"
Jay took a shaky breath and looked over at Nya. As much as he wanted to believe her, the officer made a good point. He nodded, "Thank you, officers. I got it from here. Have a nice night."
The policemen let themselves out and Jay shut and locked the door behind them before turning to his wife. He raised an eyebrow, "Burglar?"
"It was a possibility." She muttered, clutching the blanket around her tighter, "And I am absolutely positive that this isn't a side effect of those pills."
Jay nodded before loosening his tie, "D'you wanna sleep on it?"
Nya shrugged, "Something feels off, Jay. It's like they were messing with me."
He took a seat beside her, "Because they stole your sandwich?"
"That was odd...but the most chilling part was the message on the mirror...and that bird. I saw it, with my own eyes, but when they went to check, they couldn't see anything. Neither could I. No bird, no body, no feathers, no blood."
Jay wrapped an arm around his wife, "Hey, it's been a long day, maybe we should head to bed-" Nya shoved his arm off her, "You don't believe me, do you?"
He opened his mouth to protest but Nya had silently left, heading to their bedroom.
Great, Jay thought, flopping back on the couch.
