Chapter 2
3rd Person POV
Jay eventually returned after what seemed like forever, wielding bags of groceries. Nya immediately rushed to his aid, sweeping up plastic bags and hauling them into the near-empty kitchen, trying to forget about the events that occurred earlier on in the day. She'd spent the rest of the time watching Netflix, constantly checking her watch.
He straightened up, "Alright, I bought a ton of supplies for the house, so do you wanna help me and get started on that?"
Beaming, his wife nodded, "I was actually thinking of a mural in the baby's room, on one of the walls."
Jay's eyes lit up, as he hopped up and down excitedly, "Fritz Donnegan?"
"No! I was thinking something...nature themed?"
"Sure. Oh, almost forgot! This is from Cole." He dug through one of the bags, pulling out a neatly folded piece of paper. He unfolded it, revealing a beautiful sketch of Jay and Nya standing together under a cherry blossom tree, arms wrapped tightly around each other. Nya grinned, "This is beautiful! He did an amazing job!"
Jay held the sheet up, "This would look good framed, maybe hung up in the master bedroom? Or even the lobby?" He set it aside, before pulling out a set of bulbs, "I got those light bulbs you wanted. Why do we need them again?"
"Uh..." The last thing Nya wanted to do was worry Jay; she did that enough, with the whole pregnancy too, "Just wanted to check out the basement, see if there's anything cool in there, you know?"
Jay didn't seem to realise the obvious lie, as he nodded, "That sounds cool! According to the real estate agent we're pretty much the first people to move in here since the 1900s!"
"Oh...wow...cool!" If Nya didn't feel uncomfortable then, she definitely did now. Raking a hand through her hair, she bit her lip as she picked out a book.
"Fritz Donnegan's Guide To Wooing Women?" Her nose scrunched up as she read the title. Laughing sheepishly, Jay snatched the book back, "Uh...yeah-yeah, you know, in case we fall out and I don't know how to make it up to you..." Nya giggled as he nervously rambled on, before silencing him with a kiss.
"You're a dork, Jay Walker-Smith. But you're my dork."
Grinning, he held up a toolbox, "Picked this up from Cole too. What do you say, wanna help with the light fixing? Just like old times!"
"Uh..." Nya wasn't too keen on going down to the basement, but nevertheless, she nodded, "Yeah, sure. Why not?"
Jumping up and down excitedly, Jay rushed to the door, "The helpers should be here any minute to help with the furniture."
"By 'helpers,' you mean Cole and Zane, don't you?"
"Heh...yeah. Kai too."
"Small world, huh?"
"It sure is. Anyways, we are planning on setting up the master bedroom so you-" he booped her nose, "-can get a good night's sleep."
Not gonna lie, sleep did sound pretty good. Much better than heavy lifting. Stifling a yawn, she flashed a tired smile, "Sure. And maybe tomorrow we could get a start on the nursery?"
"Definitely, we'll save the accents until after we find out the gender. How does a date at the Cheesecake Factory sound"
"I have been craving that stuff for ages! But save it for after my appointment. I'm not having a repeat of last time."
Oh yes; last time. It had involved Jay staying up to binge watch some new show that had come out, and he ended up waking up late, before having to run hand-in-hand with his wife to the GP as the car had run out of gas. They ended up arriving a good half hour late.
Jay vowed to never go to sleep late until after the birth of the baby.
I have been procrastinating this for the longest time! Also, school has kept me busy.
