Seven

Lindsey had been gone two days and the house was extremely quiet, Stevie hadn't seen anything else like she had in the attic, leading her to believe that is was all in her mind

She missed Lindsey terribly, she'd had a rather flushing dream about him and had woken up wanting him more than ever, she was in the middle of sulking about it when the phone rang

"Hello?" She answered

"Baby! It's me! I miss you so much!" Her husband rushed to say, not standing being away for even a day or two.

"Oh honey, I miss you too" she said. He could hear the tears in her voice and it broke his heart.

"Sweetheart, don't cry. How have you been? How's the baby?"

"We're fine, Linds, but we want you home."

"I know, not much longer."

"Is everything going alright there? Is everyone being nice to you?"

"Yes everything is fine and I'm making friends. Don't worry, mommy."

She giggled. "I guess I should save all that mothering for the little one."

"I think it's sweet. Hey, I've got to go but I just wanted to hear your voice and tell you how much I love both of you."

"We love you too. Bye" she said sadly.

"Good-bye"

Stevie sat the phone down and placed her hands over her belly. "At least I'm not completely alone" she told herself.

Sitting in bed she kind of wished that he hadn't of phoned, hearing his voice for that whole minuet now made her feel lonelier than ever

Seeing it was sunny outside she decide to go for a swim, placing her bikini on she suddenly felt stunning in it, know that the little extra weight was her child

Walking out to the pool she was placing her towels on the side, standing by the edge of the pool applying her sun cream, she heard a giggle and before she knew it or could look for the source she was going head first into the water.

She opened her eyes, still underwater. She saw a light and she felt no pain, no fear. The strange, garbled giggle came from above and she looked around.

"Mommy?" a small voice said. "Mommy, where are you? I'm cold."

Stevie's hand flew to her belly, and she felt the ripples as she was suspended in the water, between worlds. The light brightened and seemed to extend down from heaven into the water and right to her. Suddenly, as if by God, a force pulled her from the water and placed her on the side of the pool. She lay there coughing and spluttering. Her eyes opened and she saw a face hovering above her, it was a woman. Stevie sat up to thank her, or say anything at all but she disappeared.

"I'm going fucking crazy!" Stevie said to herself as she covered her eyes and cried, she sat by the pool for ages, just crying, letting out everything from worry to fear

Deciding to stay well away from the pool she ran into the house, closing the back door and locking it, going into the living room and curling up on the sofa, she put the TV on and turned the volume up loud, drowning out any strange noises that she might hear.

She got up only to make herself a cup of tea and a big bowl of cereal. She didn't realize she was so hungry, watching the program in front of her. Suddenly, the channel changed. She looked at the TV set, then looked for the remote. Maybe she was sitting on it? She felt around her blanket, only to realize it was sitting on the coffee table. She reached forward and flipped her channel back, setting it back down. She began to eat, thinking it was strange but not impossible. She wind picked up outside and the back door by the pool flew open. It had been locked, she double and triple checked. She got up, locking it back. That familiar uneasy feeling crept in, and she placed a hand protectively over her unborn child. She felt sick and a little dizzy, settling on the couch again and pulling the blanket over herself. She was still shaken up from the pool incident earlier and she wished Lindsey were there. She eyed the phone, thinking about calling him but she had told him not to worry. How could she call him, saying something was going on in the house and there was someone there that she wasn't sure she was really seeing?

All of a sudden all the lights in the living room popped and blew, the room turning dark, it suddenly became icy cold, and she swore she was seeing shadows pass her vision

"No! Stop it! Please stop it!" She cried, bringing her knees up to her chest and covering her ears as she rocked, scrunching her eyes tight, the TV turned on, extra loudly, grabbing for the remote she switched it off, seeing three figures standing in the TV reflection, whipping her head round there was no one there, facing the TV, the reflection was also gone, rubbing her eyes she finally opened them again...all the lights were whole and back on, the room was warm, and the television was back on quietly running the show she was watching. Shaking, she stood up and turned the television off. She went upstairs and crawled into bed. It was early but she was always tired lately and knew she could sleep. Pulling the blankets high over herself, she buried herself in the covers. She heard voices downstairs and she shut her eyes, trying to ignore them. She then heard dragging sounds from above. She sat up, nervous and frightened, trying to decide what she should do. She ripped open her nightstand and pulled out a small flashlight. She carefully got out of bed and went down to find out what was going on. Her breathing shallowed, her anxiety and adrenaline going way up. She checked the front door, making sure it was locked then went through to the living room and finally to the kitchen. She shut off her flashlight finding the lights on and all of the cupboards and drawers open. Silverware lay out on the counter and all the chairs to her table were stacked up in a tower formation. She grew even paler than she was, the urge to be sick stronger than ever before.
