Friends

Asano sat in the tearoom, fuming because of Miss Hongmo's dismissal.  He couldn't believe how she had the courage to dismiss him like some servant.  Considering he is her Teacher, she should have treated him better.  Let alone his position as Prince, she should have bowed towards him.  The teacup in his hand broke as he kept thinking about the events that just past and his anger rose again.

"Will you stop damaging my tea house!"  Mace said as he entered the room through a hidden doorway.  "You already broke my table, now you want to break my tea set? What has gotten you so worked up?  I've never seen you this annoyed before."

"Stop pretending that you don't know what happened in your own tea house."  Asano said as he place the broken teacup down on the table.

"Can't blame me for trying to get more information out of you."  Mace said as he sat down across from him.  "How can I help The Lone Wolf today?"

"The recent hits that's been happening.  Word on the street that they all came from your organization."  Asano said as he stared at Mace.  "Don't you think you're being a little too ambitious these days?"

"Do speak plainly.  I'm not one of your Ministers that wishes to be complemented on."

"The 15 dead people within two weeks?  Of those 15, 10 came from the Blood Moon Organization.  People are saying you're making a power play in Obe.  Trying to show the others your strength."  Asano stared down Mace, trying to make him feel intimidated.  However the only person he was ever afraid of was his Grandfather.  The way Asano stared at him didn't bother him.

"And your point is?"

"Are you making a power play in Obe?"

"I can't control how many people my assassins want to kill.  They want a job to get paid and I have jobs to give them.  If the assassin wants to be ranked, they work more.  That's it. Plain and simple.  None of these crazy theories of power play that you're thinking of."  Mace answered.

"The Chief of Police told me that out of the 10 kills from Blood Moon, 6 of them had similar blade wounds.  What can you say about this?"

Mace shrugged.  Truth was, he was happy Ghost came into his organization and decided to stay on as part of his organization.  Her kills were giving him more power and reputation without her knowing.  Her work had also started rumors of the mysterious new assassin in the industry and in his organization.  Everyone was curious about Ghost.

"Ghost."  Mace said.  He had not told anyone about Ghost yet.  Now was the perfect time to start her legend as an assassin.

"Ghost?"

"The new player in this game."  Mace said as he smiled.  "Ghost comes in and out.  Unseen, unmarked, unheard of and with the job done efficiently as I'm told."

"Ghost?  That's his name?"

"In Ghost's own words. 'What are people afraid of? Ghosts. Vengeful Ghosts. Hungry Ghosts. Wandering Ghosts. The word 'Ghost' alone brings fear to those who hears it. You can't see Ghosts. You can't kill Ghosts. You can't poison Ghosts. You can't hurt Ghosts. You can try to exercise the Ghosts, but this Ghost doesn't believe in the Gods.' " Mace said as he thought back to the moment he felt scared down to his bones for the first time in a long time.  " 'The name Ghost will bring fear to the hearts of those killed by the Ghost and they won't even see it coming.  Everyone will know the name of Ghost and everyone will dread hearing that name.  They'll be afraid of the dark, because that's when the Ghosts come out to play.' "

"He sounds crazy and dangerous."  Asano said.  "You know we can't let loose someone who---"

"Trust me Lone Wolf, Ghost doesn't just kill anyone.  The targets have to break some moral code that Ghost carries.  So far the targets were all bad or evil men according to the code.  Corrupt officials, rapists and murderers.  Ghost will not go into a killing rampage if that's what you're afraid of."

"You sure about that?"

"Positive.  Should Ghost be a danger to the public, I'll eliminate Ghost myself." Mace said.  "Ghost just needs money.  Doesn't even care about the rankings or the power I get for every kill that Ghost decides to take on."

Asano sat still, thinking about what he just heard.  6 out of the 10 kills came from Ghost alone.  What kind of monster is Ghost that the kills all happen in the same night?  How strong is Ghost to be able to do that?  Is money the only thing that Ghost wants or does he have another agenda?

"What's Ghost's alliance to?"

"Ghost is new in town.  Doesn't really care to make any alliance to anyone.  Let alone acquaintances.  I think you'll like Ghost if you ever meet Ghost. A loner just like you... however I'm not too sure if you'll be glad to meet Ghost.  It would either be a chance encounter or Ghost coming to take your head."  Mace said.  "But I'm guessing Ghost coming to take your head would determine if you broke any moral code of Ghost's."

"Or anyone who has that courage to put out a hit on me."

"Haha!  That too."  Mace said.

"Can you set up a meeting with me and Ghost?"  Asano asked.

"Are you trying to poach my assassin away from me?  We've been friends all our lives, are you trying to steal from your own friend?"  Mace said as he sat up.  They grew up in the same circle of friends when they were young.  Although Asano had drifted apart from the circle of friends, they still considered him a friend.

"Of course not.  I just wanted to gauge who this Ghost is.  That's all.  I want to make sure the people and city of Obe are safe and that he won't go into a rampage."  Asano said.  "And should Ghost does need to be taken down, you alone won't be enough."

Mace sat still, deciding what to do.  His fingers tapped on the table one after another as he thought things through.  Ultimately, he's responsible for Ghost and her actions.  He has found no information on her, which worried him and he knew she was strong and fast enough to kill several people in one night.  It would be hard for him and his shadow guards to kill her if she becomes dangerous to the people and the city.  They couldn't even stay on her tail to track her.  With no knowledge of her, she was too much of a liability to him, even with her skills and power.

"If I make the introduction, will you keep Ghost's identity to yourself?  No one else?"  Mace said.

"Of course."  Aasno promised.

"I'll send word to Ghost and set up a meeting.  I'll let you know when it'll happen."  Mace told him.

"Thank you.  It means a lot to me that you trust me.  And what I say is the truth.  I don't mean to poach her away from you.  I just want to make sure my people are safe from Ghost."

"I believe you.  If I didn't I would have declined you already."  Mace said as he got up.  "We're friends after all. Even with your loner attitude over the years, the friendship we made as children carries through out the years.  Even if you don't want to admit it."
