the dance Ch. 9
I carefully put on the mascara as I stared into my mirror. I smiled gleefully when I saw how rarely pretty I looked. I smoothed out my dress and stepped outside the bathroom leaning one hand on the doorway and left the other by my side.
"So what do you think?" I question. Jay takes a while to think about it and my smile fades as I look around me. Was there something wrong? did I put to much makeup on?
"Kidding. You look beautiful" he said. Sneaky little actor.
"Didn't find that amusing but thank you" I say as I walk out to get my small hand bag. I walk towards the door and prepare to open it when a hand grabs my elbow
"Can I go?" he says shyly.
"What?! No way. We might be friends but not into that type of a
Way " I say.
I turn back towards the door but turn back when his hand is still on my elbow. He gave me the most cutest eyes ever and I couldn't resist but to give him one aww before sticking out my tongue.
He thought I'd fall for it. I walk out. And his hand slides off my arm. I here his sigh as I stomp down stairs and outside.
I'm sure I texted my friends to pick me up by now. They should be here. I look down at my phone to text them one more time, When suddenly I hear a car pull up on the side of the sidewalk.
"Who you waiting on?" I hear A voice say from the car. I look up from my phone to see Kendell wearing a nice plaid button up shirt. He was driving the car? He's only like 14 and he was driving a car.
"Do you have a license?" I ask. Ignoring His question as well.
"You didn't answer my question" he said. I narrowed my eyes.
"Fine, I was waiting on my friends. To come and pick me up for the dance"
"I'll take you" he says. At his words I start bursting out into laughter. Seriously?
"You?!" I shout clenching my stomach and focusing on trying not to die."yeah I'll wait for my friends to come" I continued.
"Suit yourself" he said after waving a goodbye. I sighed and plopped my phone into my purse. It was getting darker and darker and I began to think that they'd never come.
After what seemed like forever. I here a car horn beep and spot my best friend Cindy and her older sister Kim. She was also with a dark skinned girl who wore a pink tight dress and straight blondish hair. I skipped down the steps and rushed towards the car.
"What took you so long?" I complained as I opened the door and sat beside her.
"Sorry I was getting my hair done" she said while chomping on her gum. I didn't even realise how drop dead gorgeous she looked. She died her hair brown but left the ends blonde. She used to have blonde hair but brown suits her just as good.
She wore a Royal bones black lace dress that is to die for. Probably a bad choice of words considering the funeral theme to it.
"You look so cute!" I say playing with her hair a little as the car starts.
"Seriously? I feel like I'm getting dressed for a funeral" she said as she took out her phone and snapped some pictures of herself.
I sighed and looked out the window. Cindy talking about funeral out fits makes me think of Jay. I felt bad leaving him alone Wherever he is, he probably felt left behind.
"So!" Cindy said, Breaking my thoughts. "Did you bring Money?" She said. Still looking down at her phone.
"Yah course" I said sticking up a 10 dollar bill.
"Great! Because I left my money behind and I wanna grab some candy to get hype" She said. We came to a stop and I spotted the good old corner store.
As I waited for Cindy and her friends to come back I chilled in the car.
Suddenly I felt really cold. Why didn't I bring a sweater in case!
"Hey Mia" I heard a familiar voice chant. I whipped my head to my left and found Jay in a nice tux that I have to admit completed his hair.
And his eyes. God he looked cute!
"Why are you here?! How are you here?!" I whispered harshly I shook my head trying to focus."Tell me"
"I didn't want to miss the fun on going to a dance. Plus only I know you don't have a date" he said smoothly.
I smirked "what makes you think I don't already have a date?" I said. Messing up his hair. But it oddly came back.
"Well, I knew you would say no. But I thought that maybe you'd make an exception" He said as he scooch closer to me and wrapped an arm around my neck. Before he could pull me closer to him I clawed his hand and unwrapped it off my neck. It felt good though.
"Ya. Try harder next time" I said. Looking down.
"I really like you. And I will do whatever I can to prove it" he said in a serious tone and a straight face. This made me blush. He cupped my chin and leaned in to kiss me lightly on the cheek.
I didn't know he liked me. Like, like me in that kind of way. And damn it! He just kissed me.
He looked towards the window on my side and began to speak.
"Well I have to go maybe I'll see you at the dance" he said sadly.
I turned to where he was looking, and found my friends coming in with small bags of sweets. I looked back and just like that he was gone.
Was it bad that I wanted him to come back? That annoying creepy jerk to come back?
"Hey!" I heard Cindy yell beside me. She closed the door and placed some jolly ranchers on my lap. Mmm I love these.
"are you OK?" She said. I didn't realize how silent I have been. Usually when she shouts HEY!!! I say WASSUP!!!
"Oh, yeah. I just had a lot on my mind"
"Oh, OK" she said smiling. I put on a fake smile and plopped a piece of the candy into my mouth. "So... You ready to get this show on the road?" She continued. I nodded and took a deep breathe. I'm ready
