Chapter 14
"Bring the princess, hurry!" Vader shouted to the troopers, shoving past Han, Lando, and Chewie, and barreling towards the hover-stretcher that held his daughter. Her petite form was writhing back in forth in agony, piercing screams leaving her lips the closer she got to her twin brother.
Trying to push back his concerned feelings, Vader pulled her stretcher into the cell and then picked up her small form as if she weighed no more than a child. He noticed how equally small both his children were and grimaced, setting the young woman beside Luke and kneeling down next to the both of them.
Padmé slowly moved out of his way, eyeing him out of the corner of her eye as she mainly focused on the stormtroopers shoving Han, Lando, and Chewie inside and forcing them to their knees on the opposite side of the cramped cell. The trio looked over at the twins in their own worry, struck speechless at the screams that simply would not die down.
"Padmé. I need your help to separate their minds." Vader said slowly, looking up at her cautiously. The older woman stilled and bit her lip, nodding after a second of contemplation.
"Just tell me what to do." She said gently, placing her hands by Luke's temples and following the Sith's lead.
Vader took in as large a gulp of oxygen as possible through his respirator and focused on the princess's complex mind, his attention diverted to one bright spot of pure red. He blinked in confusion, the red representing a dark energy inside the girl before him. She had channeled too much dark side energy inside her over the past few days and now that she had linked with a light side force user with which she had a strong bond, it had let loose all its havoc on both her and Luke.
Padmé noticed it as well as she drew back in horror, her hands shaking.
"I cannot do this," Vader said cautiously, "My focus is the dark side--destruction--not healing." He pulled his hand back in frustration.
"Like I said. Show me what to do." Padmé said. Vader tried to breathe properly as she focused on him, looking through the mask and into his soul.
"Padmé, I would have to go in your mind. Break the boundaries, get information that you've already stated quite firmly you do not want to give to me." Vader said, almost with a sarcastic tone.
Padmé rolled her eyes, grasping Vader's wrists and pressing them to her head. "Just do it."
Han and Lando shared a quizzical look, Chewie rumbling out his own confusion beside them. "Does that lady...know Vader?"
"I wouldn't know. I've never seen her before. She looks a lot like the princess though." Lando responded with a shrug.
Both the smuggler and the gambler cut off their conversation with shouts of pain, the stormtroopers that were guarding them smacking them hard on the soft parts of their heads with the butts of their blasters.
"Quiet scum." They hissed despite their equal curiosity and confusion with the scene. They only hoped Lord Vader wouldn't kill them afterwards for witnessing a moment of weakness for him.
Vader meanwhile was hesitantly reaching into his wife's mind, breathless at the light blinding him inside. It was a different light from his children's however, a light of a non-Force sensitive yet a light of a pure soul knowledgable of the Force. He felt Padmé's faint presence pushing him along, letting him through her memories and thoughts as he searched for the controls of her minuscule Force abilities.
Every living being had midichlorians, but Padmé's number was low. Low for a Force user at least, but definitely high for a non-Force sensitive. He took control of each one, melting his presence with hers and using her light energy to filter through Luke's head, and inevitably through Leia's.
The healing process began instantly, Luke and Leia's color returning and the screaming of both twins finally dying down. Han, Lando, and Chewie watched in awe of the scene before them, both Padmé and Vader engrossed in their own personal bubble of power.
Vader could not believe how much he had missed his wife's Force presence and how much it rejuvenated him...brought back a man long dead. His twin children were now awakening, both of them confused and scared and trying to make sense of their surroundings. For a moment, everything was almost peaceful. That was until Vader—only moments before leaving Padmé's mind—focused on a particular thought of hers, one she seemingly seemed to be projecting at him. A tear slipped unknowingly down the older woman's face as she felt the Sith inch closer to the idea in her mind.
She had to do this, she knew that. As much as she hated giving Vader any information, she needed a chance to get her children and their friends out of Imperial custody and back to the Rebellion in order to train. Palpatine was their goal, not Vader. At least for now that was. As soon as Vader had his tendrils around the thought, she pulled back, focusing on Luke and Leia's stirring forms and hoping to calm them in a time of horror. Pulling back from such strong Force power did in fact have large repercussions on the mind. The twins would have to be careful.
Vader stayed silent for the time being, the thought already imbedded in his own mind, but him unable to believe it true. Someone would have had to train Padmé and Luke, but he didn't expect...he had thought his Master had killed...Master Yoda?
"Luke. Luke, sweetheart can you hear me? Leia?" Padmé eased both her children into sitting positions. Luke's expression read relief at seeing his mother upon wakening, but Leia's read confusion. However, both of them changed to fear when they caught sight of Vader.
Vader was still silent however, simply staring at the situation and casually waving a hand off to the stormtroopers when they tried to stop Han, Lando, and Chewie from coming over to check on Luke and Leia as well.
Han moved past Vader and towards Leia's side, grasping her hand and helping her sit up. "Leia, you alright?"
Leia blinked at Han, confused for a moment before she took in her surroundings. "What just happened?"
"Your minds were linked too strongly and the power shared between you two overloaded when you fully opened your bond for the first time." Padmé explained, deciding to brush over the fact that Leia had been engulfed with dark side energy. Padmé began stroking Luke's shoulder, unsure if she was trying to soothe him back into reality or herself. Luke's blue eyes were still a bit dazed though, his hands shaking and his gaze casting between Han and Leia to make sure they were real.
"And who are you?" Lando asked, recognizing her briefly from the corridors of Cloud City but not having had seen her face at that time due to the hood she had worn. She was much older than he imagined she would be, and the infamous Skywalker that Han and Leia were so desperate to get back was far younger than he ever expected, making him more guilty than he had been before. "My apologies. Padmé Amidala." She reached a hand out, shaking both Han and Lando's hands and smiling lightly as their confused looks remained.
Leia sucked in a small gasp however, catching everyone's attention immediately. "I know that name..." she whispered almost trance-like, her eyes casting towards Padmé. "My father used to tell me stories about his good friend Senator Amidala, the former queen of Naboo. But...he said you died. Died in childbirth complications."
Padmé smiled lightly, "Yes, that's what everyone was made to believe. Bail was one of the few who knew the truth."
"Organa knew, but not me?" Vader managed to drag out despite his state of shock from discovering Yoda's existence. He needed to report to his master and soon. The man would grow impatient with his lack of information from what was supposed to be an interrogation of Skywalker, Amidala, and Organa. But now that all these revelations had come to light, he wasn't sure how much more he could comprehend without his brain shutting down.
Padmé whirled to him, narrowing her eyes. "With what you saw, I'm surprised you're still here."
"That information is vital, but not as important to me as this." Vader paused, trying to force his respirator to take deeper breaths. "Tell her. The truth. If Luke knows now, then she has an equal right to know as well."
"Know what?" Leia demanded, looking to Han only to get a shrug from the older man. He was equally as clueless as her. Her eyes narrowed tightly at Vader, still not liking being so close to the murderer despite the fact that they were all prisoners at the moment and could easily have been going through much worse. It wasn't like Vader to be with prisoners for this length of time unless he was interrogating them personally--a feat which was only saved for the higher ranking rebels or the worst of traitors.
"Padmé will answer your questions for now. I have business to attend to." Vader said, finally rising to his feet.
"Wait, what business? I thought you were trying to get information from us?" Luke asked, finally piping up despite his vocal chords having going sore from all the screaming he had done throughout the day.
"I have gotten enough information for the time being, child. You six will be transported to the main detention center on Coruscant soon and your training will start the moment I return." Vader said dully.
"Where are you going?" Luke scowled.
"And what about Han, Lando, and Chewie?" Leia asked.
Vader and Padmé both blinked in unison, suddenly noticing the eerie similarities between Luke and Leia that they had never noticed before. The two, despite looking different, were most definitely twins.
"Your friends shall remain prisoners for the time being. And as for my destination..." Vader paused, smirking underneath his mask, "You can thank your mother for that."
Vader spun on his heel, his cape flaring out behind him as he marched away. His concern over his children's mental state was still prominent, but he brushed it away as Vader mentally dominated over Anakin Skywalker once again and ordered his stormtroopers to keep guard, the door locking behind him.
Leia, Han, and Lando all blinked at the word 'mother', staring at Padmé as she sighed. "Well I guess before I start explaining my master plan, we should probably break the ice."
"Mother, what was he talking about? Where is he going?" Luke begged Padmé, looking nervous.
Padmé ran her hand through her hair, not knowing which conflict to amend first. She turned to Han, Leia, Lando, and Chewie, smiling genuinely.
"Alright, I'll make this simple. First off, Vader is my husband—"
"He's married!?" Han exclaimed, looking completely bewildered. Leia and Lando glared at him for interrupting, but Han didn't look the least bit sorry.
Padmé winced, biting her lip. "Yes, but we haven't seen each other in over two decades. He's been...conflicted."
"You think?" Lando muttered under his breath.
"Anyways, Vader is my husband...and 22 years ago we had two twin children. Luke Skywalker and...Leia Skywalker." Padmé said slowly, watching the slow widening of Leia's eyes as tears began to well in them.
"So you're..." Han's words trailed off, his eyes looking up towards Leia's dumbstruck face, her eyes shifting between Padmé and Luke simultaneously.
"My mother. My...my brother. And..." Leia screamed, startling the group. "No, that monster is not my father!"
"Leia, listen, I know it's hard to understand, I was scared too—" Luke tried to console his sister, starting to come back to himself. Leia pulled away however, shaking her head frantically and rising to her trembling feet. She tried to retreat to the corner, Padmé getting up to follow her but being cautious all the same.
"Leia, it's alright."
"N-No! He's a monster. He tortured me and blew up my planet! He tortured Han and almost killed him! And Luke! He almost killed you just now in his trap, look at your hand!" Leia exclaimed, just now noticing the prosthetic hand Luke had.
Luke bit his lip. "I know Leia, trust me, I know, but there's something in him, something that keeps driving him to protect me, mother, and you. The Emperor has brainwashed him and we can save him, I know we can, we just have to find a way out of here and convince him."
"I know you're scared darling, but I'm here to help you. Your brother is right. You are both so powerful...you could change the entire fate of the galaxy." Padmé said soothingly, finally reaching Leia and pulling her into a hug.
Leia embraced in the warmth of the woman, letting a tear slip and being reminded of her adoptive mother Breha rocking her to sleep and singing her Alderaani lullabies. When they pulled away, Leia wiped at her eyes, looking around at their ragtag group. "What exactly do you plan to do?"
Padmé sighed, looking towards Luke for a moment. "Vader is...heading to Dagobah. During the prison transfer, we can overpower the stormtroopers and escape on a ship to the Rebellion rendezvous. We arrive, form a better plan of attack, and come back to face Vader and Palpatine when the time is right."
"You sent him to Dagobah!?" Luke exclaimed first, paling.
"Yoda has been warned Luke, he'll be okay." Padmé said, not believing herself as she said it.
"We could do that, but it's risky." Han said, sharing a look with Lando. "Could we possibly do it on my ship? At least I'll know what the hell I'm doing with that thing as opposed to some Imperial-issued scrap pile."
"With the risk of that hyperdrive?" Lando teased for a moment, trying to lighten the tense mood. Leave it to Han to consider high-class military issued ships 'scrap piles' and his own rusty cargo freighter to be top of the line engineering.
"Hey, that ship's as good as any. She just has a few...kinks, is all. You of all people should know that," Han said with a roll of eyes.
"The Falcon would be perfect, as long as it's in the docking bay when we escape." Padmé explained, looking over to see Luke still looking at her in betrayal. She sighed and pressed a brief kiss to Leia's temple before walking back towards her son.
"Luke, Obi-Wan and I agreed that sending Vader to Dagobah was the only way to distract both him and Palpatine. If they focus on the last remaining trained Jedi, then they'll be putting us at the back of their priorities for the time being. But the moment we're back on their radar, and with what little training we have, we'll be useless. It'll be suicide." Padmé explained, watching Luke's faint nod. This wasn't the first time Padmé warned him before of suicide missions, the young boy flinching at the still raw memories of facing Vader and worrying that he had reached the end...
"Alright, so that's figured out. What do we do now?" Han asked, still looking a bit perplexed from all the information thrown at him at once.
"We wait." Padmé said with a sigh, collapsing on to the cot by Luke's side. "Hopefully the transfer will come faster than Vader can get to Dagobah and back."
"Hold on." Leia said suddenly, looking tense. "There might be a slight problem."
"What is it?" Lando asked first, the group looking at Leia in expectance.
Leia swallowed, clenching her fists. "The Rebels are already on their way to Coruscant to break us out and it won't be stealthy. There's a battle coming, and trained or not...we're gonna have to fight."
The silence was deafening.
"Then get some rest. All of you. The next few hours are going to bring Force knows what, and we need to all be at our best. It will work. We just need to plan accordingly." Padmé said.
"Oh yeah? And what about weapons?" Han asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You've had prison escapes before right Captain Solo? I'm sure we can figure it out as we go." Padmé said with a smirk.
"On the fly plans are usually the worst plans." Lando commented, looking nervous.
"Nah. Those are the best kind." Luke said softly, smiling genuinely at his mother. "I trust your judgement. We've gotten this far, the least we can do is fight our way out, right?"
"That's my boy." Padmé said pridefully.
Leia rolled her eyes, moving towards her friends, well her family now she guessed, and trying to hold on to the hope that seemed to be radiating from the six of them combined.
Finally, after a moment of tension mixed with playfulness, Padmé suddenly looked up at Han, blinking curiously. "Han, just a quick question...which one of my children are you dating again?"
Luke and Leia flushed deep red, their eyes widening while Han suddenly choked on air, looking aghast at the question he had definitely not been expecting.
Chewie and Lando just laughed.

Meanwhile, Darth Vader stomped determinedly back to his quarters, contacting his Master with almost as much fervor as he had before.
"Lord Vader, I assume you bring information from Amidala, Skywalker, and Organa?" Palpatine said with a twinge of dark, twisted excitement. Vader tried not to shift nervously, keeping his head lowered in the presence of his Master.
"They were stubborn at first, but I did pull some interesting information from Amidala." Vader said lowly.
"And that would be?" Palpatine said impatiently.
Vader took a long breath from his respirator. "Yoda is still alive, Master. He was the one to train Skywalker and Amidala. I came to request your permission to go after him in the Dagobah system."
Palpatine blinked in surprise, narrowing his wrinkled face at his apprentice. "That can't be. I killed that lousy excuse for a Jedi myself. She must've been manipulating you. Your emotions have been quite clouded with this particular development after all."
"My emotions are fine, Master. Yoda is alive, I know it. I simply request your permission—"
"And leave the prisoners alone with stormtroopers? Two of the most powerful Force-sensitives to date, their Force-using mother, and the infuriating others they are with against those useless soldiers? They are trying to distract you Vader. It would be so much simpler to send an Inquisitor." Palpatine said irritably, growing tired of the argument.
"An inquisitor would fail against Master Yoda. He is powerful, even in his age. The only way to take him out is to get someone more powerful."
"Are you inquiring that our Inquisitors are not a worthy match for a withering old troll living in exile?"
"Well, in all respect Master, did he not best your abilities?" Vader said cautiously, his sarcasm leaking through.
Palpatine was silent for a long moment before a low, dark chuckle came through the hologram. "You have quite a deal of wit, my apprentice." The Emperor sighed, "Very well. You may confront Yoda, but I want you back on Coruscant as soon as you are done. We have more important matters to deal with and the pitiful Rebels are trying to plan something, I can feel it. I will need you come then. Who better to train Amidala, Skywalker, and Organa but you, my friend?"
"Of course, my Master." Vader said monotonously, bowing lower.
"Do not fail me Lord Vader, we have gotten this far. Let's try not to lose it." Palpatine said threateningly.
"I will never fail you, my Master."
"Good. Report to me once the deed is completed. Everything is going exactly as I have foreseen..."
The hologram faded away, leaving Vader in the darkness of the room. The Sith rose slowly, clenching his fists and keeping his hand over his lightsaber. Force forbid Padmé, Luke, or Leia tried anything while he was gone...they wouldn't be that stupid would they? Submission would be so much easier for them...he could give them the galaxy!
He shook his head, knowing the atrocities he had committed against each of them must've biased them in some way, but he would still convince them otherwise, having his family at his side and overthrowing Palpatine like he had wanted to do since day one.
He marched out of his quarters and turned to the officer waiting outside the door. "Admiral."
The man turned with a click of his heels and a stiff salute, his eyes looking straight ahead and his face a blank mask, as per Imperial procedure. "My Lord."
"Ready my shuttle and prepare the prisoner transfer as soon as we land on Coruscant. It is to be maximum security, only your best men."
"Right away, Lord Vader." The man said with a deep bow before turning and marching away hurriedly, moving to do as told.
Vader stood for a moment, thinking deeply on the day's events and the future to come. What exactly did the Force have planned?
'Tano, Kenobi, Amidala, and now Yoda. How many more ghosts do you have in store for me, huh?'
The Force seemed to wink at him before he got the call that his shuttle was ready, his cape flying behind him as he wasted no time heading towards it, ready to face the old Jedi Master after so many years...
