12. |The Bonding|
Vineet gets ready and calls Ruhana, and at the same time, the doorbell rings. He opens the door, and she's smiling at him. They share a hug, and he pulls her inside.
They share a glance, and she smiles. She knows that he has played his first card well. Ruhana adores the house. It's very elegantly decorated, and she knows that it's according to Vineet's taste. She's very surprised to find that he has still kept his interests intact.
"This is beautiful, Vineet. I am glad to know that you've kept your interests intact." She smiles at him.
"We have to keep that, Ruu. Other people don't accept your interests. You have to keep yourself alive even when it's not accepted by others." Vineet says.
"Yeah, I know. But I know that we share the same interests. Acha, do you still have your mini library? Bachpan mein toh tumhare room mein hi ek bookshelf thi." She chuckles softly.
"I will show you. Come on." He says this and holds her hand.
"Arey ruko, apni wife se nahi milvaaoge?" She asks.
At the same time, Abhilasha comes out of the kitchen, and her eyes fall on Ruhana. She puts on a smile and greets her. Vineet introduces the two ladies.
"We're meeting almost after 18 years, Abhilasha. And I am so glad to meet you too. He really deserves a partner like you." Ruhana says this while looking at Abhilasha.
"Yeah, he told me yesterday. And Vineet bhi bahut khush tha kal. Itna ki apni wife ko hi bhul gaye janab!" Abhilasha comments; her tone is bashful.
"Ah! He told me that you had a party yesterday. And so he took me for dinner." Ruhana says, and she noted the change in Abhilasha's expressions.
Ruhana smiles at her and then turns to Vineet. She insists on seeing his library, and he pulls her in another direction. Abhilasha is a little astounded, and she tells them that breakfast is ready.
"Abhilasha, tum nashta lagao, main Ruhana ko mera study room dikha ke laata hoon." He says so and takes her along with him.
Abhilasha makes a face, but she has to bear it. She doesn't want to fight with her husband in front of his friend. She could hear some giggles and chuckles from the study, and she isn't comfortable with Ruhana's presence in the house.
Well, she's never comfortable when Vineet brings any friends home. While, for herself, she wants Vineet to accompany her everywhere. She wants him to entertain her and fulfil her wishes, while she doesn't care what he expects from her. She doesn't care when it comes to Vineet's feelings, but she acts hurt when he comments on her or doesn't stay with her.
She lays the table for breakfast and calls for Ruhana and Vineet, who come out laughing. The former is holding a few books in her hand.
"Vinu! I will read slowly; you can trust me. Main bilkul ache se khayal rakhungi tumhari books ka." She says it cutely.
"I know, Ruu! Waise bhi main padh chuka hoon ye books, tum le jaao. Abhi ko toh kitaabein padhne ka shauk nahi hain." Vineet says it softly.
"I'll narrate the story to her. Tum story toh sun sakti ho na, Abhi?" Ruhana looks at her.
"Abhilasha! Call me Abhilasha. Only Vineet is allowed to call me Abhi." She replies coldly.
"Why are you angry? Meri wajah se? Vineet invited me. Main khud nhi aayi hoon." Ruhana replies while glancing at Abhilasha.
Ruhana knows that Abhilasha doesn't like her. But her cold reply triggered Ruhana, and she replied back.
"And it should be fine, Abhi. Tum toh ghar se bahar hi chali jaati ho. I invited her to make you meet her." Vineet intervenes between the two ladies.
"But I asked you something else. You left it unheard." Abhilasha says, showing her displeasure.
"As if you hear me always? Why don't you look at yourself first?" Vineet comments, even though he's annoyed now.
"Oh, please, Vineet. I know what I'm doing. Now, have some breakfast." Abhilasha says softly.
"Let it be! Ab mujhe kuch khana hi nahi hain. Ruhana, let's go. Mujhe meeting ke liye late nahi hona." Vineet says it angrily.
"Vineet, tum kabhi aisa nahi karte! Akhir hua kya hain?" Abhilasha asks.
"Tumhari baatein sunke kiska mann karega breakfast karne ke liye? Tumhe bas apne aap se matlab hain. Ruhana ke saamne bhi tumhe apne ego hi dikhana hai." He says this, scolding her.
"Maine wahi kaha jo sahi hain. Ruhana ke aate hi tum badal se gaye ho. Bas apni dost ki chinta hain, biwi toh jaise exist hi nahi karti." She comments ruefully.
Vineet glares at his wife and says something that leaves Abhilasha shocked. She didn't think that he would say something like this to her. All the while, Ruhana played a silent spectator; after all, she promised to help her best friend.
To Be Continued.
What did Vineet say?
Stay tuned.
