26; SON OF A GUN

Steve and I teleported to another street, and yep, more of them are popping up everywhere. Ready with those energy rifles, firing at us.

Steve and I didn't really say another word after we reappeared on the street, his shield protecting both of us from the energy beams fired. We then exchanged nods, our minds thinking alike as we start charging and practically do more of our fighting tactics against these extraterrestrial beings.

As Captain America throws his mighty shield, all those Chitauri aliens opposed to it, they really yield. Literally.

While I, Amelia Vale, still with the hood on, battle the aliens with every tactic and move I know upon my elemental abilities' knowledge. And always kept in mind about numbing the wound here and there, and avoiding for my face to be 'shown'. You never know, like what if there are still cameras everywhere and yada-yada-yada? Yeah.

Alongside battleing with the Captain, I guess we're doing real good, just like the old days. Sorry about Project 45 reference but I'm honest, 'cause its like the 1940s again, or war should I say. As for the others, I guarantee they definitely are, I just don't know where they are for the moment.

Besides Hawkeye's probably still in that roof.

And Iron Man just flying, and shooting with his specialty missiles and rockets and his hand repulsor blasts. J.A.R.V.I.S probably conversing with him with him so he's got friendly company.

Thor? Probably in a street, fighting and electrocuting those Leviathans with his lighting. And thunder, literally and figuratively.

Black Widow is out there, doing something that's hopefully beneficial towards us in this battle. I don't know yet, because well, I was busy.

And finally, Hulk is smashing.

And now, I am literally avoiding the topic about that kiss.

Oh, what the heck. That was an unforgettable, really good, and I'm not going to really discuss about it, you know?

'Cause of the fact that I have to concentrate and try to freeze or incinerate these aliens over here, people.

Okay, now gimme a sec. Or a few more minutes. Or possibly hours.

But I forgot, who's taking care of Loki? Oh well, Hulk will just smash him anyways.

Sorry, gotta take these aliens so hold on to that thought.

~Third Person's POV~

When Black Widow requested a boost from the Captain, she wasn't kidding about the ride. Earlier during the battle, before that significant moment, she parkoured from the vibranium shield's boost and used a one of those Chitauri chariots instead. She's Natasha Romanoff for god's sakes, she can easily do, stuff. Besides successfully fleeing to safety from a Hulk rampage. And may I say, that's a terrifying experience of a lifetime.

Anyways, still manuevering the driver of the chariot to transport her to the roof of Stark Tower, she's devising a plan on to close the portal once and for all. Specifically shut down that CMS device containing whatever mumbo jumbo Dr. Selvig has done with it in order to stabilize a whooping hundreds-of-feet-in-diameter, Tesseract sustained, portal. Thankfully, he's back to his senses when Tony knocked him out earlier.

Where are we? Oh yeah, let's zoom in on Natasha, casually driving this chariot, and she just gave me a look to stop narrating. Wait, what the-- "who are you? Like not the great time, but I am certainly not 'casually' doing, all of this, for your information!" Natasha looks at me, me dead straight in the eye while still driving that chariot. Did I mention I'm like watching all of this like it was a movie? Seriously, it should be like really a movie. "No seriously, who are you?!" Ermahgerd, she's reading my mind!! Or listening to my narrating, but who cares?!

"Uhhh, I'm just narrating here..." I tell her, who still glared at me, but moved on with her buisness. As she has no time for my explanation, and just raised a cocky eyebrow. "Okay, carry on!" She exclaimed over the loud destruction as she zooms through the skies, heading towards straight to the tower. I responded at her with a nod, but shall I continue?

Ahem, alright, I should stay inaudible towards the team. *Clicks mute button so the Avengers won't hear me narrating.* Okie-dokie-Loki! Oh ha ha ha, see what I did there? Sorry!!

ANYWAYS, Loki's ride was also trailing behind her as soon as his eyes landed on a rogue chariot. Shooting with one of those energy beams, missing Black Widow's chariot off to the side, she turns around. Knowing the source of the energy beam, she remarks, "oh. You." Yep, that's him, all right.

Loki chases her in hot pursuit, firing those beams once in a while. They race upward and downward throughout the city of Manhattan, zooming and trailing through buildings and over the streets. Both race against each other madly, driving and dodging as competitiveness brew between them. "Hawkeye!"

Clint, being the hawk, became aware of the matter as both start approaching and surrounding his rooftop at a distance. He watches both chasing each other, astonished at his fellow assassin. "Nat, what are you doing?"

"Uh... a little help!" She exclaims during the chase. He smirks because she needed his assistance, and would be more than glad to help.

Hawkeye grabs an arrow from his quiver and pulls the trigger twice, setting to detonate a bomb because that arrow are one of his trick arrows. Nocking the arrow as he pulls back the string with those three fingers, the index, tall, and ring, to the corner of his mouth, he aims. Ever so slightly transitioning his aim to the location to shoot Loki, he smirks, "I've got him." Ah yes, he's got him.

Firing the trick arrow at the Norse god, the arrow streaks through the wind, making its way swiftly to Loki's head-- but! Loki caught the arrow like a cat, snatching it out of its course to his head, out of the air.

Loki smiles at Hawkeye's gesture, but he wasn't mindful of it being a trick arrow. Stupid.

The trick arrow explodes in his face, throwing him outta there, straight onto crashing into Tony's penthouse. During the process, he as well lost the grasp of that precious scepter of his.

Natasha smiles at Clint's convivial gesture for her, as she build momentum, readying to abandon her ride as she reaches her desired destination. Glancing down, she finally jumps out of the chariot, rolling over to dampen her fall as she lands on Stark Tower's roof. Mission accomplished... Well, we're getting there.

Okay, now let's focus to the fallen Loki, who is laying down on the cold, penthouse floor. The scepter was out of his grasp, which is also just laying outside the penthouse, somewhere out there.

Regaining himself from the crash fall, the Hulk suddenly leaps inside the tower, ready to smash. His specialty, he stomped heavily at Loki, kicking him and tossing him like a stuffed animal across the whole room, through the glass as he collapses against a wall. Obviously Loki was struck with the sudden, painful, shock, like, who wouldn't be?!

By any means, after that, Loki rolled over to stand up to the Hulk, who started marching at him angrily, very angrily. Loki then yelled and exclaimed as he stood up to the gama monster, angry as well, "ENOUGH! YOU ARE, ALL OF YOU ARE BENEATH ME! I AM A GOD YOU DULL CREATURE, AND WILL NOT BE BULLIED BY--"

Without hesitation, Bruce just smashed him anyways. Not letting him finish his useless statement.

As simple as that.

Basically, the Hulk just grabbed his legs, and smashing him against the hard floor of the penthouse repeatedly, not even bothering to pause. Finally, he robustly throws one final smash of him against the floor, flattening him into the floor. Loki starred at the ceiling above him wide-eyed, laying there from the, well, shock.

"Puny god," Hulk says as he leaves Loki laying there and whimpering, like a boss-- wait, hold up, did he just say...?! Oh my god, he just said that. Oh my... Wow, just wow.

Focusing now onto Natasha, she starts heading towards the CMS device that started all this, chaos. Also, finding Dr. Selvig with the words 'what the hell' all over his face. And also astonished, and open-mouthed, literally.

"Doctor," she called out as she looks at the machine, releasing all of that Tesseract energy to powering the portal.

"Loki's scepter, the energy... The Tesseract can't fight," he explains very slowly, still confused with his surroundings. "You can't protect against yourself."

"It's not your fault," Natasha assures the doctor, "you don't know what you're doing."

"Well, actually I think I did," he slowly admits, as he approaches the machine's control panels that's activating its protection barrier. And the machine itself overall. "I built in a safety to cut the power source." He mumbles, which made Natasha knew the answer.

"Loki's scepter."

"It might be able to close the portal..." Then from the corner of his eye, he spots golden glistening from below their roof level. Walking towards the edge, he states, "and I'm looking right at it."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meantime at one of the streets of Manhattan, the hooded girl shot an icicle with precise accuracy at an alien that was lunging for the Captain right behind him. "Thanks, but I got it!" He told her as she shot another one that was lunging behind him, again. "Yep, you really do," she pops the p as she shoots another one from behind her.
He chuckles as he throws his shield, letting it ricochet from hitting a number of soldiers. The girl turns away towards the rest of the aliens on her side of the battlefield to fight them off, until a brief interruption occured on her lower abdomen. "Agh!" She hisses quietly, clutching on the wound from earlier, the shot of pain immediately bring her to her knees.
Captain notices, and throws his shield at the aliens marching towards her, ricocheting back at him. With the shield back in his hand, he ran over to her, "hey, what happened? Are you okay!?"
Amelia secretly froze her wound once again, making her no longer clutch at her lower abdomen. Catching a few breaths from her sudden shot of pain, Steve knelt in front of her, but he's still towering over her even though if they were both kneeling. "Amelia?" He gently makes her face him by raising her chin.
She froze another layer of ice on the wound, numbing it once again. "Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. Its just a uh... A cramp. Yeah, its just a--" Then an explosion blasted behind Steve, just a few feet away from them. She immediately raises herself up, same goes to him but slowly, "I'm fine. And we'd better get back."
Steve nods firmly, but inside of him, he felt like she was avoiding him. And regret of what happened earlier. Was it a mistake? Did she not want it? Was she just lying that she wanted it? He thought to himself, but Amelia took steps closer to him, cupping his cheek. "Steve, look at me," her touch relieved him back to reality, but not the worrying. "I'm fine, and we'd better get back to those. Earth to Steven, I repeat, we'd better--"
"Get going." He finishes for her, making them both smirk. "Yep." She turned away to walking away for a brief moment, but quickly turned back to face him, quickly pecking his cheek. "And you better stop worrying about that kiss." She pesters him, making shades of red creep up to his cheeks. "Oh, uh, um, o-kay..." He stutters adorably.
She felt really bold ever since the kiss earlier.  But inside, her inner self is jumping excitedly up and down like there's no end. Nor becoming smitten like the beginning all over again.  Although, she soon realized concentration would always be needed for claiming victory in this battle....
Amelia couldn't help but grin ever so widely, but the small moment is sadly interrupted by Natasha, speaking in her comm, "Hey Amelia? Could you do the honors of teleporting to Stark Tower's roof top for a bit?"
Amelia rose an eyebrow, making Steve give her a quizzical look, "what's happening now?"  He asks.  Amelia just shrugs, as she replies onto her earpiece, "why? What's up?"
"I need you to grab a scepter for me."  Now that made her eyes widened, because the thought of Loki just popped in her head.  Glancing at Stark Tower, Steve followed her daze, "Romanoff needs help, huh?"
"Yep," she replies, as she asks again on her earpiece, "where's it now?  And what happened to Loki to let go of his precious?"
Natasha just scoffs, looking down at the scepter that's about five floors below the roof top, "Hulk smashed him.  Literally.  But its on the fourth or fifth floor below the roof.  Pick it up for me, and I'm on the roof with the Tesseract."
Her eyes widened again, "the Tesseract is there?"
As Steve knocked an alien while she shot fireballs, that one specific word immediately got his attention, "Tesseract?!"
"Shhh!"  Amelia playfully waves him off as Natasha continues explaining, "yeah!  Its powering the device on Stark's rooftop to stabilize the portal.  I need the scepter, Amelia. I'll explain everything to you when you bring me it."
Amelia sighs, "alright.  On my way."  Steve looked at her with a weird look as he threw his shield, "what now?"
Light bulb!  Amelia thought to herself, "duck for a sec!"  Steve understood and retrieved his shield to protect himself from her upcoming move.  Spinning like a top with her arms outstretched, Amelia released waves of fiery flames, incinerating dozens of the Chitauri soldiers.  Thanks to the shield, Steve was shielded from the intense heat and flames.
As soon as her spinning ended, she felt a little dizzy.  "Whooaaa..."  she slurred the words, but Steve caught her from falling as she almost lost her balance, also glancing at his surroundings.  "yeah.  Whoa."
Regaining her balance and no longer entranced from the dizziness and the whole world spinning in her vision, she replied, "how's that?"  She looked up to him as she stood up from his arms, grinning with eyes gleaming with pride.
"Not bad," he grinned back as he punched one last one lunging behind him with the back of his hand. Glancing around the empty street, "and we better get to another street, teleport?"
"No problem," she answers as she held on to his arm, teleporting them to another street.
And boy could she get used to holding them...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Arriving at another street, they found Thor already started battling.  "Well, look who's having fun!"  Amelia called out behind him,  making Thor turn to both after knocking one alien out with his hammer.  Chuckling with that voice of his, "ah, my friends, its the thrill of battle!"

Amelia just smiled at the god, whilst shaking her head.  Then she turned to Steve, "hey."

He faced her with his ocean blues, "Natasha needs you, I suppose?"

She gave him a small smile, gesturing to his understanding, "yes, and don't worry.  Please.  I'll be fine."

Steve sighed, tired of seeing the girl always leaving his side.  Like, for the third time?  Yeah.  Cupping her cheek, he gentlemanly asks, "may I?"

"Wha--" but she was cut off when he brought her lips to his, closing the gap once again.  With a glance from the side, Thor watches back in surprise, confused and mouth gaping.

Letting each other go, she smiles so brightly and widely, "you know, you are a really good kisser."  Butterflies couldn't help but erupt from her stomach.  Same goes to him.  And both are turning as red as a red rose right now...

Steve lets go of her cheek, chuckling as he shakes his head.  "Go.  She needs you."

"Only for a minute."  She adds, winking.  Then she vanished leaving Thor with wide eyes upon the leftover violet mists.  "Uh..."  Thor just stares blankly at the captain, feeling like he missed something.  Steve just grinned like an idiot for a few seconds, until he realized he better start focusing.  And less worrying.

"What are you looking at?  Stop watching and let's kill some aliens."  Steve remarks at Thor's expression in his captain tone, making him just respond with a shrug and then summoning lightning to electrocute these aliens.  "Aye yai, Captain."

Let's get down to business, Steve thought to himself as he threw his mighty shield once more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amelia lands on the fourth floor below the rooftop, immediately searching for the scepter.  "Nat," she reaches for her earpiece, "I'm on the fourth floor below the roof.  So its probably on the fifth. Why won't you take the elevator up there?"
Natasha smirked, "Sadly, there isn't one and I have no rope and no way am I going to use one of those alien rides again. And yeah, probably.  I've seen it."
"Okay.  Thanks."  Before she teleports once again, Natasha realized she misunderstood her, "no, no, no, you.  I've seen you two down there!  Ask Clint!"
And boy did that make her turn a crimson red, laughing awkwardly and nervously, "uh, what do you mean you've 'seen' and which two?" Amelia asks through gritted teeth and overgrowing embarassment.
"We've seen it.  Smooth, Steve, smooth."  Clint finally butts in their small conversation while he shot an arrow, making Amelia panic,  "hey!  Look, I've gotta look for that god damn scepter to close that god damn portal, Widow!"
"Its Hawkeye, and by the way, its on the sixth."  Clint corrects her, giggling.  Yeah, that's right giggling.  Amelia grunted in annoyance, "thank you!"
Even though Clint left his own roof because of his difficulties of obtaining and reloading arrows, he still can spot anything at a distance.  All he could use for combat is his bow, daggers, guns, and well, his combat tactics.
Amelia vanished once more, reappearing on the sixth floor below the rooftop.
Natasha decided to switch her earpiece's comm onto Clint's, "how many times?"
He replies with a small grin on his face, "twice.  Can't believe it.  The 90-year-old was able to land on a hot one, in decades. Three years for that matter."  He shot another trick arrow at a group of chariots, raiding the skies.
Natasha just laughed whilst shaking her head at Clint's remark, then Amelia suddenly appeared behind her with the scepter in her hands.
~At the Helicarrier~
Without notice to any high authority of the base, a lone pilot currently is stationed on a cockpit of his own, listening to further instructions. And they weren't Fury's nor Hill's. "Director Fury is no longer in command," yes, the councilwoman directs into the pilot's jet comm, "override order, 7 Alpha 11." She confirms secretly.
Yes, that pilot is carrying a nuclear detterent ready to detonate in minutes as soon as he takes off the Helicarrier. And its headed straight to the island of Manhattan, prepared to eliminate an alien army and a civilian population. That included the Avengers. Innocent people with talented and charismatic characteristics, saving innocent lives.
"7 Alpha 11, confirmed. Prepare to take off." The pilot replies back as he ignites his engine, ready to take off to transport the nuclear missile.
Meanwhile inside the helicarrier, Maria Hill, having that watchful eye as always as she manages the place, detects the lone jet, ready to leave the base. From her set of monitors to her earpiece and well, everywhere, she immediately orders, "sir, we have a bird in motion! Anyone on the deck, we have a rogue bird!" She cries out to everyone available, "Repeat! Take off is not authorized!"
Fury became immediately aware of the matter and literally ran out of the helicarrier and into the day with a bazooka-looking-thing.  Or to be exact its a Airtronic RPG-7.
Out into the broad daylight, he aims the weapon and fires the missile.  The missile hits the tail of the jet, making it completely skid off its take off track and onto hanging off the edge of the helicarrier.  Thankfully, the pilot was unharmed, but he knows he's gonna be taught a lesson later.
Bad news though was that the Council had back-up.  That's right, suddenly, another 7 Alpha-11 jet authorized by the council took off without notice to anybody.  As it took off, Fury directly pointed his gun at it, but obviously, that was no use.
Useless and defeated, he immediately contacted Stark about the circumstance happening at the very minute.  "Stark, you hearing me?  We have a missile headed straight for the city!"
Iron Man hears the message, surprised and suddenly confused, "how long?"
"Three minutes at best.  Stay low and wipe out the missile."  He reminds him via the suit, as Tony thought, why...
Focusing to Iron Man, Tony lands and fought off as many aliens off as he can sustain.  Then he cries out to his fellow artificial intelligence, "J.A.R.V.I.S, put everything we got into the thrusters!"
Without hesitation, J.A.R.V.I.S is like way ahead of the game, "I just did."
Blowing up one last alien, Iron Man flew up outta of that street and headed straight towards the missile that's making its way to blow up the island of Manhattan.  And everyone in it, even the Avengers.
~Amelia's POV~
Cautiously staring at Dr. Selvig, I look over to Natasha, who nodded in approval.  Nodding in approval that he's no longer in Loki's trance, "he's okay."
I nod back, handing him the scepter.  "Amelia Vale," I took out my hand, introducing myself.  "Dr. Erik Selvig," he introduces back, shooking my hand firmly, but a little bit shakily due to the current environment being overwhelming for him.
From the corner of my eye, I spot Natash rolling her eyes, getting quite impatient.  She approaches Dr. Selvig, who handed her the scepter.  Eyeing the item in her hand, I glared at the blue gem resting on top and imagined the yellow stone that is glowing inside it. "What do we need to do?" She asks directly, bringing me out of my thoughts.
He sighs as he then heads over to the control panel, prepping the preparations.
Then aliens starts landing on the roof.  Not again...
Immediately in my fighting stance, I incinerated the trespassing Chitauri.  I looked over to Selvig, who looked at me warily, "alright.  You do that, while you," he points to Natasha, "you will help me break the force field."
Conveying a small smile, I happily agree (note sarcasm), "Gladly."
Natasha preps also into her fighting stance, pointing the scepter at anyone incoming, and also having my back.  "Doctor, how do we break the force field surrounding the device?" Natasha asks.
I shot more fireballs and flamethrowers at the flying chariots surrounding the roof, ultimately eliminating them and listening intently at the brewing explanations of the Doctor.  "Agent..."
"Romanoff," Natasha finally introduces herself, as she wacked an alien on the head with the scepter. Ending its extraterrestrial life.
"Ah, Agent Romanoff, well..." He starts explaining while typing on the laptop operating the device, while I shot more icicles and fireballs.  "As I activate the soft, preliminary area on the force field, I want you to pierce the tip of the scepter into it, tipping it to the Tesseract inside."
"Easy, I hope?" I ask while I shot an icicle at a couple of aliens on a floating chariot.  Guarding the roof is moi, Natasha is guarding the device.  "That depends, Miss Vale."
Nat grunted as she shot a beam at a chariot, which actually surprised and impressed both of us.  "It better be, Amy."
"Give me ten..."  Selvig starts counting down, as I shot more of my powers, Natasha pointing the scepter like she was jousting, without a horse.
"Nine...  Eight..."
Finally finishing off the rest of the trespassing aliens, I ran over to Dr. Selvig.  "Approximately where is the soft spot located in the force field?" I ask him, watching all the thermonuclear astrophysics being calculated in the laptop, and his fingers zooming through the keys.
"Anywhere within the bottom diameter of the dome.  Or specifically the opposite crown of the dome."  He replies, as I look over to Natasha, still guarding and keeping her eye out for more of the aliens.  "Got that?"  I ask Natasha in her direction, but she didn't even look back.
"Heard it loud and clear."  Then she finally looks over to me, "and you better get back to the boys down there."
Scoffing, I walk over to the device, just looking at it.  "Nah.  I wanna see this unfold.  And besides, we're winning."  Natasha chuckles, obviously agreeing with me.  She is a woman with small words.
As soon as I told her my so far and opinionated report of the battle, I quickly shot another alien leaping over to attack Dr. Selvig from behind the edge of the roof with an icicle.  Not even taking a glance towards it.  I guess I just saw it coming...
It petrified him, widening his eyes as he finishes the rest of the work on the laptop, slowing his pace. "How about now?"  I ask him, who looks right at Natasha, nodding in her direction.  "I'll take that as a yes then."
"Straight for the crown!"
Natasha backs away from her 'post'.  Then with the scepter, she slowly pierces its tip towards the source of its power, the Tesseract.  I watch in awe as the force field slowly starts breaking, then I yelled into all of my comms of my earpiece, "Guys, we can close it!  Can anybody hear me?!  Nat's shutting the portal!"
~Third Person's POV~
"Do it!"  Captain immediately says into his earpiece, relieved of hearing Amelia's voice.  I guess he likes her voice, considering he heard her sing and ramble with it.  Although, the team is sadly not aware of the nuke approaching the island of New York city, and Tony doing his last best on avoiding it.
Tony exclaimed back in his ear, "No!  Wait!"
"Stark, these things are still coming!"  Steve reasons at his fellow teammate, even if they're ego are always competed within each other.  But Tony won't easily bugde.
"I got a nuke coming in, its gonna blow up in less than a minute."  Tony then looks up at the portal, a light bulb flashing in his brain, "and I know where just to put it."
Amelia listens intently, same goes to Natasha.  "Wonton..."  She mutters silently and nervously, watching the portal spew out more and more aliens.  Both Natasha and Amelia frown slightly.
Iron Man catches up, through the water and over the bridge, now comes at the missile from behind. The missile speeds on, zooming through the skies and on its way to the city. Tony grabs it from behind, gripping it tightly around its body.  Because their lives depended on it.
With a mighty effort, he wrenches the rocket off its course.  Steering it from behind, he accelerates quickly, flying straight up into sky, towards the portal.
"Stark, you know that's a one way trip?"  Steve asks quietly, but Amelia shook her head, watching Iron Man flying straight into the portal in the matter of minutes.  Protesting, "Tony...  I need to do something!"
"Save the rest for return, J," Tony ignores Amelia, reminding J.A.R.V.I.S.
"Anthony, whatever your middle name is, Stark!"  Amelia calls out for his attention.
"Okay, Sparky!  Could you try and increase rocket igneous of the missile so it could speed up?"  He jokingly asks, making her even more panic.
"I can't fly and you're too far away!  I can't!  Up to my pyrokinetic ability...  Oh god, why do I have to be so--"
"Okay!  I was just kidding, Amy." But it still made her feel very guilty, "and I knew that."
"TONY!"  She scolds him, but everyone watches intently as the suit charges directly towards the portal.  Nobody likes a smart ass... She thought to herself, but faith is still filling her and battling fear inside of herself.  Captain switches his comm to Amelia's, "hey..."
"Don't."  She mutters quietly to his vague greeting as she watches Tony very intently.
"What?"  He seemed surprised to her reaction.
"Sorry.  Its just..." she tells him slowly.
"Yeah.  I know..."
Halfway up to the path leading to the portal, J.A.R.V.I.S finally opens up.  "Sir, shall I call Ms. Potts?"  He suggests slowly.
"You might as well."
Pepper watches the television installed in her jet in horror.  Because her beloved is making the most huge sacrifice she's ever witnessed or known.  Well, in her opinion.  And don't forget to include the ever-growing destruction of New York.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Every agent, even the famous Director Fury and Agent Hill, watch live footage with their breaths hitched inside the main helicarrier bridge.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Iron Man climbs higher and higher over the city, gaining speed, suddenly flings himself through the portal. Communications with his team nor S.H.I.E.L.D were lost as he appeared before space itself. The suit begins to freeze, even the past advancements and corrections made by Tony didn't prevent that. Tony's look horror begin to unfold due to the horrific sight appearing before him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Every single agent cheers as Iron Man enters the portal. Fury smiles, faith inside of him overwhelming him as well.  Attempting to communicate with Tony, but sadly, there's nothing.  And boy did that drastically decrease his optimism.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before Tony's horror appears an armada of the real Chitauri. The black sky is filled with what must be ninety ships in a vague cluster. Most of them hang still in the air. Some move swimmingly about through the empty and dark space.
Iron Man, with all of his might and will, lets go of the missile. It whistles off into the blackness as the famous robotic suit idly drops back down the portal's opening.
The missile reaches the main ship of the entire armada. The main ship implodes, causing the entire armada to burst into this supernova, creating a spectacular, heavenly display of victory.  Once.  And.  For.  All.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Due to the complete riddance of the source of the Chitauri army, the rest, from leviathans to soldiers, currently battling on Earth began to keel and fall over to their end.  Suddenly becoming lifeless, the Avengers scanned around, thankful for their end.  But they immediately still kept their eyes up to the portal, waiting and fighting the overwhelming pessimism inside of all of them.

With the scepter still in her hands, Natasha kept her eyes up at the portal.  Faith reducing, then increasing, then reducing, "come on, Stark..."

Down in the street, where Chitauri soldiers lay lifeless and defeated, Thor and Steve await in anticipation for Tony.

Nothing.

"Close it," Captain instructs Black Widow.

"No..." Amelia mumbles, but Steve heard it loud and clear.

Without hesitating, Natasha pulls the scepter out, the Tesseract unfastening off its energy beam. The portal's diameter quickly decreases, finally closing.  Although, a small figure is hurled backwards into the open now closed portal. FUCKING IRON MAN. Is plummeting to the earth, uncontrollably.

"Son of a gun!"  Amelia and Steve announce in unison, both staggered.

But he keeps falling, plummeting, falling, like a puppet without its strings.  (A/N: ahhhh...!!)

"He's not slowing down!"  Thor indicates, as he swings Mjolnir in a fast, centripetal force.

Just about at the moment he flies up, the Hulk snags Tony out of nowhere, both crashing and sliding down a building.  Breaking and dampening his fall.  Amelia teleports out of the Stark roof.

Hulk gently lays the unconscious Iron Man on the cemented pavement, Thor and Captain 'Murica running towards him.  Amelia finally appears as Thor rips of his helmet, revealing his face.

Amelia gasps as she ran to Tony, kneeling before his appallingly and as it appears to be dead body.  Every stands around, Clint on his roof, Natasha on the Stark roof, all unsure even if they don't have a clear view.

But Hulk ain't giving up on his science buddy yet.

He let out a furious roar, startling Tony awake.  Even the others.

His eyes immediately roam around his surroundings.  "What the hell?!  What just happened?!"  Everyone sighs in relief, but as soon as Tony faces Amelia kneeling over him, "please tell you didn't kiss me!!"

Amelia immediately stood up, her eyes wide in shock.  "Uh, no."

Steve just shakes his head, while Tony sighs in his own relief.  "We won, Tony."  Steve breaks the awkwardness, making everyone lift up their spirits and snap them back to reality.

"Alright.  Hey.  Alright.  Uh, thank god and good job, guys.  Let's just not come in tomorrow. Let's just take a day. Have you ever tried shawarma? There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it."  Tony starts rambling as Amelia rolls her eyes.  He spots it, "keep rolling and one day you'll find your brain in there."  She responds with a not amused look.  (A/N: Kudos to @NeonLights1404!! Her story, "The Day I Died" is a Watty award winner and I'm currently obsessed with reading it.)

Thor ignores their childishness and looks up at the tower.  "Enough you two because we are certainly not finish yet."

"And then shawarma after," Tony adds.

"Then let's get going," Steve finalizes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Loki crawls and picks himself up over steps of the penthouse, like a broken rag doll.  He notices something or someone is fishy behind him.
Turning warily around, he founds the Avengers, pissed.  From the left starts Hulk, then Iron Man, Captain America, Amelia, Thor and Black Widow.  Taking the lead is Hawkeye, aiming an arrow directly at his face.
"If its all the same to you," Loki admits in surrender and defeat, "I'll have that drink."
Hulk snorts in temper.  But Tony rain checks, "how does shawarma sound for you?"
