1; PYROKINESIS AND CYROKINESIS
All right Amelia, you can do this.
I thought this to myself as I faced the cans that stood 50 yards away from me. I am now fourteen years old, still training and heightening the potential and accuracy of my pyrokinesis and cyrokinesis abilities. I decided to hit the can with fire, so flames sparked up from my hands. I raised my hand up, aimed, and shot the fire ball from my hand to the can. With the can melting by the flames, not really melting but the metal is after all made of the aluminum alloy therefore giving it the physical characteristic of malleability , I broke into: "YES! Mom, did you see that? Oh yes, I just shot it like 60 yards away!"
My mother looked at me with a sense a pride and showed a smile. "Honey, its just 50 yards," she corrected me. "Now, try it with ice." I nod at her suggestion.
I nodded and faced the next can. With both of my hands, I created a mixture of snow and ice floating inbetween. Again, I raised my hands up, aimed, and shot a beam of snow and ice to the can. I ended up being successful. The snowball mixture hit the can with a faint and distant clang, square in its aluminum face.
I looked back at my mom, whose smile grew larger and prouder. Never have I thought that I was successful in shooting fire and ice from a distance as long as a football field, where I actually am. And finally, my reward, the answers to everything I've always wanted to know about my family's abilities. I have waited four long years just for this moment.
That target practice was the last portion of training today. Earlier where some jiu-jitsu and training with the muk yan jong (the "wooden man post" dummy) in order for honing of several skills and reflexes. And I always looked forward on watching my improvements unfold before me and my adjudicator; aka my mom.
"Alright, you earn it. Let's go back home and I'll tell you everything," she started walking away as I ran towards her.
"Hey mom," I asked as I hugged her tightly, "thanks for training me." She smiled, "No problem, sweet cakes."
Now fourteen, I have waited for three years just to train and finally my mother is telling me everything about her abilities, my dad's and who Nick Fury is. I've only met the eye-patch-burdened guy once; and that was when the biggest discovery about almost ruined my tenth birthday. But as for right now, it's just no biggie. I grew accommodated about it throughout the years.
As we arrived home, I we headed to the dining room, "Alright, first things first," she brought out my laptop, lingering on a dining chair, hidden. Oh great, she probably knows.
"AMELIA ELNORA VALE HAVE YOU BEEN HACKING IN MY BANK ACCOUNT, REMOVING PAPER TRAILS, AND STEALING MONEY FROM OUR SAVINGS ACCOUNT?!" my mother yelled at me. There was this long pause and clearly her face is filled with disappointment and she's very mad, mad with fire sparking at the tips of her hair. I slowly nodded, "Mom, do you need water or ice?" I tried asking with a kinda funny gesture. Heh...
Then, I tried... Explaining. But-- "Amelia, why are you stealing-" I interrupted her. "Look mom, I am withdrawing and saving so I could go to medicine school, just in case I didn't get the chance to receive a scholarship-- or-or either way--"
"Why are you thinking about this right now? Amelia, you have these abilities, do martial arts, probably even swimming or- or gymnastics and probably some track and field and be able to hack a computer. How could you not have a scholarship? Just training at the dojo, you could do any sport you want, and you could get a scholarship. Just exploring the world of technology and engineering, not computer hacking, you could get a scholarship." Mom rambled, with a hint of calmness, then anger, then disappointment, then many more that I couldn't describe...
"I know, but I'm heading towards to being-"
"A doctor?"
"No, I don't know. But something at least relating to that," I reluctantly said it, "like work in a crime lab and just investigate the gory or sudden deaths of innocent victims feels, I don't know. I just want to do that you know?" Awkward... But it's true.
My mom gave out a sigh, either out of relief or irritation. "Honey, that's great that you've chosen a career path, but don't risk anything like your innocence to the goals you want to achieve. Don't hack and steal money just to save up for this, you know I am your mother and I am here for you, whatever you need."
"Alright mom, sorry." I was surprised she cooled down, after all, my mother is bipolar. Really grateful that its not generic, unlike my powers.
"Its okay. You are just like your father, and me," she laughed, "now, where were we? Oh yeah, here take a seat." This morning escalated quickly...
She pulled out a chair and I sat down. Finally, its freaking time.
"Amelia, when you turned ten, you obviously learned that you have pyrokinesis, the usage of fire, and cyrokinesis, the usage of ice. Now, I am going to explain everything, how you got it, your father, and who Nick Fury is. Ever since that incident, I think you couldn't hold too much of your curiosity. Me, your mother, has pyrokinesis while your father, he has cyrokinesis. I met your father while I was working in this organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. It means Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. I still remember the days as a Level 8 agent, same goes to your father, where we head to missions and fought terrorists, and technically crime around the world. Seeing different places and with the bonus of falling in love I think, is perfect. Although, things, even when you do fall in love, or fighting crime has sacrifice and consequences, not to mention the courage to face them." Wow, seriously, like that's kinda cool.
"Your father, his name was Christopher Robert Vale, a level 8 agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, a cyrokinectic user, a genius hacker, the love of my life and your deceased loving father. As I, Elizabeth Scarlette Echard, was an ex-level 8 agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, a pyrokinectic user, an martial artist, and your mother. We were complete opposite, even considering the fire in ice." I kind of hated the fact of my mother mentioning 'deceased' when she mentioned father's name.
"Whoa, whoa, ex-agent?"
"Questions later. Anyways, Nick Fury is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, a gifted leader, and I would describe him as our dear family friend, with an eye patch."
I laughed when she mentioned the 'eye patch' part.
"During those days, we were family. We operated in missions under Nick's rule, and in the end succeeded, and sometimes fail, but it strengthens our bond. I think you were frightened when Nick arrived at our door with a couple of scientists, but overall, he could help us. He helped you understand your abilities as he helped with mine." This guy should come over Thanksgiving, just saying.
"Now, for S.H.I.E.L.D, the founders of the world's leading international military espionage agency are Howard Stark, Margaret 'Peggy' Carter, and Chester Philips-" Dang for an agency but, I have to interrupt. This is not what I'm looking for.
"Wait, I want, no, I need to know about my parents and my powers. Please mom?"
She sighed, "Alright then," she then continues, "Honey, your abilities will obviously make you do amazing things. But to do so, your abilities would tend to be hard to control, especially when you grow up. And as your mother, I will do anything to help you control and heighten your abilities and bring you to college. Achieve the goals you wish to achieve, look for the answers for the questions you seek, finding your future husband or at least your true love. I will and promise you, that I'll guide you along the way as your loving mother. Anymore questions?" Thank god she mentioned college, uh I mean medical school.
"Why did you quit? Like no longer be a cool agent and fight crime and all that stuff?"
She stared at me with a questioning look, a look that she actually is questioning herself if she should tell me or not. "I quit because Chris, I mean your father passed, and I am pregnant of a child that I do not intend to loose during all of these crime-fighting."
That hit me hard. I feel really guilty of ending my mother's heroic crime-fighting career. She stopped all because of me. Although, her face softened, "Amelia, don't you dare feel guilty because I do not completely regret that decision." Hold up, what? Did she just read my mind or something?
"Amelia, I still keep in touch with S.H.I.E.L.D, with my friend Nick, and now I am in the middle of raising a strong, and beautiful girl. How could I regret that? Even though if your father is still alive to this day, everything would've changed and I probably still don't regret leaving S.H.I.E.L.D." My mother's eyes were filled up with tears, and now they're pouring. I stood up and hugged my mother as tight so I won't let her go. She then added, "you are the best daughter anyone could ever wish, Amelia Elnora Vale. Again, how could I regret all of this?"
