8. Avengers assemble
"Welcome, Shield high school students!" Maria Hill shouted into her megaphone. The students cheered in response, rumbling the metal bleachers. "Let's get started!" She finished, letting Nick Fury take the podium. In most high schools, you've got your football games, and if you didn't love your team, it's the equivalent of death. Here at Shield, we've got the superhero games. Surprisingly, there were only 3 super hero teams competing this year. The Fantastic Four, The Guardians of the Galaxy, and us, The Avengers. The Fantastic Four were only freshman, and still a bit rusty, but us And the Guardians already had flames in our eyes.
"May I welcome..." Nick fury started, naming of the Fantastic Four. "So you ready?" Tony asked, giving me a smirk. "It's all or none," I sighed, giving the team a reassuring smile. "Next up, The Guardians of the Galaxy!" The students roared in admiration, "with Peter Quill as their leader!"
Everyone's face paled in our group, "leader?" Clint choked out. "We haven't picked a leader!" Natasha exclaimed, wide eyes glancing around. "Yup, you haven't. And you'll be disqualified if I don't get one right now," Phil Coulson said, suddenly turning up. "I'll do it!" Tony piped up. Everyone rolled their eyes, "Tony, no offense. You're a great leader, but maybe not for this group," Bruce chuckled. "I am a prince on Asgard, I should be leader," Thor bellowed, but Natasha shook her head. "You're not from around here, you don't know how this stuff works," she replied, glancing up at me.
"You Steve!" She exclaimed suddenly, her fiery red hair bobbing with her jump. "Me?" I questioned, fiddling with my hoodie. "You're a natural born leader," Clint assured. Everyone looked at Tony, who had scrunched up his nose. Surprisingly, he shrugged and gave a smirk. "Yeah why not. You're the boss," he chuckled. "Wow, calling me a boss. How many people have you called that?" I joked, but he raised his eyebrows. "One other. Pepper Potts. Not arguing with her,"
We shook with laughter just as Coulson ran off, whispering into Fury's ear. "Finally, The Avengers!" He shouted, just as the students rose in their seats, deafening us with cheers. "Captain America as their leader, or Steve Rogers!"
The cheerleaders chanted my name, but my eyes just grazed over them. Right in the front row, sitting next to a girl named Angie, was my Peggy Carter. She wore a traditional 1940's army uniform, saluting me with a smile. I returned the gesture as I jogged out. "Iron man, or Tony Stark!"
Tony sauntered out, waving a hand coolly. The girls screamed in their seats, but I could tell that he had found Pepper in the crowd, giving her a cheeky smile. "Black Widow, also know as Natasha Romanoff!" She came out, dragging Bruce behind her. "... And The Hulk, or Bruce Banner!" Fury added quickly, giving Natasha a glare for throwing him off. "Hawkeye, or Clint Barton!"
I chuckled when I spotted a girl jumping next to the cheerleaders, sporting a shirt saying 'yes, I'm actually Laura'. "So she exists," Tony muttered towards me. "Last but not least, the God of Thunder... Thor!" Fury finally finished. Thor came flying out, landing firmly in the field. Jane Foster stood close to the front with her friend Darcy, jumping up and down with some weird scanner. "All competitors must get into their costumes, and once that's done, let The games begin!"

I fixed my American colored outfit, strapping my shield on my back. "Ohhhhhh!" I heard the crowd groan. First up had been the ability course, which Clint was running for us. Scrambling, I quickly peered outside our tent to see what the fuss was. "You had to maneuver around the obstacles, human torch. We let it slide when you barreled into them, but the minute you stepped out of the line is instant disqualification," Fury ordered, causing the Guardians to cheer.
"Well that was quick," Bruce muttered, crossing his arms. "Eh," Tony shrugged, "wait three more years, then they'll be a force to reckon with,"
We highfived Clint as we walked in, "pfft, it was easy. Finished it before the fireball even crashed," he chuckled, walking over to Nat.
Soon after, Natasha and Gamora had a high stakes hand to hand combat. When push came to shove, Natasha won it for us. Next was the extraterrestrials. Well, all of the guardians are, but they decided Groot was their best bet. They must've chosen well, because Thors lighting didn't work on Groots pale wood skin. The God of Thunder lost, but was okay. Bruce was now up against rocket, having to diffuse a bomb. Except it was an alien bomb, foreign technology was unknown to poor Banner. Because off the stress, we almost got a code green. He could've learned the technology fast, but the lack of time and focus just caused Rocket to win. Soon after, it was Tony against Peter; Battle of the Sass masters.
Peter pulled out his space ship while Tony used his glistening suit. Their battle took so long, with neither budging, that Fury called it a tie. Finally, I was up against Drax. The literate, body builder.
"Go Steve!" My teammates called, pumping me up. "This is it! You're the tie breaker!" Tony Shouted, letting a handbeam through the air. "Whoever gets knocked out of the ring first, loses," Maria dictated, letting off a blank from a gun.
Drax charged at me, and instinctively, I put out my shield. He made me budge a little, but I rolled out of the way. Punches were thrown, kicks were in the air, when I decided to use his momentum against him. He charged once more, but I flipped over his lumbering body, then pushed him back outside of the circle.
Cheers broke out, and my team came running to congratulate me. Peggy rushed up as well, but without her dazzling smile smile.
"The schools been bombed by a man with a metal arm,"
