Getting Her Back

I want a change in my life. I was bored with the same everyday routine. I felt like I was just living on replay. So I decided to try and do something different.

"Taiga!" I heard a voice calling me. I stopped in my tracks, turning to face my girlfriend. She ran toward me, with her dark brown pigtails bouncing after her. She ran toward me with a grin and her bright blue eyes sparkling happily. I gave her a small smile of my own, waiting for her smaller figure to catch up. About a foot away, she jumped into my arms. Her small thin arms wrapped lovingly around my waist. "How come you didn't wait for me after practice?" Her eyes glanced up at me. I saw the tint of sadness lurking a bit.

"Sorry, Asako. I wasn't feeling well." I lied. My chest clenched in pain, knowing that I was lying to the one girl who'd never lie to me. Asako's eyes softened and a frown came to her lips. Worry clouded her crystal blue eyes and her shoulders drooped.

"Are you okay?" She questioned me. Her tiny little hand reached up to touch my face. "You don't seem to have a fever.." Asako muttered, giving my a confused look. I replied by shrugging my shoulders. "Well, I should walk you home. Maybe make something for you." Asako offered, but I shook my head in denial.

"No, it's fine." I paused. My right hand automatically moved to scratch my cheek. A nervous habit of mine. "I just need some time alone right now.." I had told her. When I looked down, I saw a heartbreaking thing. Asako's once bright eyes teared in fear. Her body racked nervously. She looked ready to collapse.

"It's not something that I did, right?" Asako asked with a little hope. I shook my head this time.

"No. Of course not." I whispered, wrapping her into a hug. Asako let out a shaky breath of relief. Right then and there, I mentally shattered. I knew my own dirty little secret.

I was a liar. I was lying to my girlfriend.

"Well, I hope you feel better Taiga!" Asako pulled away with little resistance from me. "Make sure you let me know once you do feel better. I haven't been to your place in a really long time!" She spoke. Her usually bright smile was back. Asako's hands reached up to wipe away the tears that had gathered previously.

"I will." I told her, with a nod of my head. Asako gave me another grin, before she ran in the direction of her home. As soon as she was gone from sight, I tousled my hair in frustration. "Damn it..." I cursed.

I began walking home again. My thoughts Asako had clouded my head. Guilt bubbled brutally within the depths of my chest. Pain resided in the back of my throat. Sweat glazed over my forehead and the palms of my hands. I was a wreck. There was no denying.

I knew what I was doing was wrong. So why did I continue to do it? I don't know. But I'm in too deep to stop now.

I opened the door to my small apartment. When I walked through the entrance, I was greeted by the alluring scent of food. A smile graced itself onto my lips. I pulled off my school blazer, tossing it carelessly onto my couch. My school bag fell to the floor beside the furniture. I kicked my basketball shoes off beside the door.

I looked up to see a beautifully amazing girl standing in my kitchen. She had long blonde hair that was tied back into a high ponytail. She looked up and grinned at me. My red tinted eyes met her violet purple orbs. "Taiga." Her voice was bell-like when my name rolled off her tongue. "Welcome back." She greeted in a singsong tone.

I entered the small kitchen and stood behind her. My arms moved to wrap around her slender waist. A small giggle escaped past her pink, full lips. I grinned, burying my nose into her neck. "I'm back, Suki." I whispered softly in her ear. Another giggle bounced off the walls of my home.

"Why don't you go get cleaned up?" Suki suggested, turning her head slightly to peck my cheek. I groaned in response to her demand. "Now. Taiga." She ordered, with a slightly teasing tone. "When we're done with dinner, we could have a movie night." Suki said excitedly.

"Okay. Sounds fun." I answered, already heading to my room. I walked down the short hallway and into the first door on the right. I closed the door behind me and my smile fell. As I stared into my empty room, guilt flooded over me again. Asako. And Suki. I was cheating on them. I gathered my things for a shower and headed to the bathroom.

"Asako..." I whispered, staring into my tired looking reflection. The mirror showed me with dull eyes. I appeared to look almost sick. "I'm so sorry."

Technically, I was cheating on Asako. With Suki. But I was just so bored with my daily schedule. It was practically the same thing every day. It was Asako, School, Lunch, Asako, School, Asako, Basketball, Asako, Home. That was generally what I've been doing for a year. And I was bored of it.

Then I met Suki. She was just a girl that was helping me look for a pair of shoes I wanted. One thing led to another, and we ended up on a date. It was fun. Exciting. I told her about Asako. Suki wasn't bothered by me dating Asako too. In fact, Suki thought Asako sounded really sweet and she eventually wanted to meet Asako. On better terms, of course.

I knew I was in too deep. And I'm so sorry.

Suki and I finished the amazing dinner that she cooked for us. Now, the lights were off and the tv was on. The blinds were closed, with the sun slowly setting behind them. I was leaning casually into the couch. Suki was snuggled up against my side, her head resting upon my chest. My right arm lightly wrapped around her.

The moving was playing. It was just getting to the climax, when a knock came from my front door. I heard Suki sigh a bit. She pushed herself off of my chest and headed to the door. I didn't bother to look and heard the door open. "Tai- huh?" I heard the voice that broke my heart. The voice that I wished would never find out like this. "Excuse me." Asako's voice whispered. I heard her push past Suki. I turned my head, meeting blue hurt eyes. I stood.

"Asako.." I reached for her but she flinched away.

"N-no. Don't touch me." Asako glared at me. Tears pooled over her cheeks. Her body shook in small rapid jerks. She held her folded hands closely to her chest. Blue eyes met violet. "Who is she..?" Asako whispered, turning to look back at me. "Huh Taiga!?" Her voice raised so unexpectedly that even I took a small step back.

"Asako, let me explain." I spoke carefully, holding my hands in the 'I-surrender' fashion. "This is Suki.." Before I could explain any further, Asako's broken voice had cut me off.

"You-You...How? I-" Asako's soft voice cracked. Her blue eyes glancing rapidly in between Suki and I. "H-how long?..." She finally managed to whisper out harshly. I felt my chest relax, well shatter.

"Five months." I whispered back, ashamed. I heard Asako gasp. Her quiet footsteps moved to stand in front of me.

SLAP!

"I hate you..." Asako whispered dangerously low. "BaKagami." Her voice cracked, whispering my name. She ran from my apartment. I heard her cries slowly fade down the hallway.

"A-Asako.." I muttered. I fell back onto the couch, rubbing my aching head. It felt as if a knife was driving itself into my chest. Or a sludge hammer slamming into my head a million times. Suki appeared in front of me.

"Y-you should go after her." Suki told me. A box was set on my lap. My name was scribbled on a small tag, along with a note. "Bye, Taiga." Suki whispered, giving me the hint that this was the last time I'd see her too.

"Fuck." I growled. I pulled the tag off of the box and pulled it closer to my face. It was a bit hard to make out the small, although neat, handwriting in the darkness of my apartment.

'Taiga!

I felt bad that you weren't feeling good and I couldn't do anything. So I baked you tons of things! Feel better!

☆彡 Love Asako!'

I set the note on my table. My hands ever so slowly reached out to take the lid. I pulled it off. Inside were a whole bunch of my favorite sweets that Asako baked from scratch. They were neatly sorted into little sections based on what they were. I took one of the delicacies, placing it into my mouth. "Fuck." I growled out, setting the box aside.

I grabbed my jacket and keys, running out the door. I ran quickly out of my apartment building. My eyes scanned left and right, as I ran down the streets. I looked everywhere for Asako. But I couldn't find her anywhere. She wasn't at her favorite bakery, or cafe. She wasn't at her favorite spot in the park. So, I headed to her home.

"I'm sorry, Kagami-san. Asako-chan hasn't come back yet.." Was all her mom said.

So where was Asako?

"I promise that I'll find her." I told Asako's mom. She nodded at me, trusting me. That's all I hope to get back from Asako after I apologize.

I ran back through the city, searching high and low. I was running through the empty shopping area. I wasn't sure why I was even searching here, but I was. Then, I saw her. What shocked me was that I saw Asako standing in front of a store. She was talking to a man, seemingly an employee. Why? I edged myself closer. "Asako?" I spoke softly. Asako spun around quickly. Her brown hair whipped around rapidly as well. Her blue eyes widened in shock. They were also red and puffy.

"T-Taiga...?" She blinked, tilting her head.

"Asako, listen, I'm-" I tried to speak, but another voice cut us off. It was the employee.

"Here you go miss." He said, handing a bag to Asako. She gave a small broken smile to the man, taking the bag.

"Thank you.." She said, bowing her head in thanks. The man nodded, closing up his shop. Asako looked down to the box in her hands. Then she held them out to me. "Here." She forced out.

"A-Asako?" I took the bag. Inside was a shoe box. I pulled it out slowly. I looked back up to make sure that Asako didn't disappear on me. She was still there, standing and avoiding my gaze. I opened the lid to the box and my heart broke even more. Inside were the newest pairs of Jordans that weren't supposed to even go on market until next week. I looked up at the girl in front of me. "How?" That's all I could ask.

"I pre-preordered?" She whispered, still not looking at me. "They were supposed to be an a-anniversary...gift.." She sniffled.

"Asako.." I reached toward her, but like before Asako flinched away. I sighed. "Please, just let me say I'm sorry."

"Why?" She looked up at me finally. Our eyes met. I suddenly felt nervous under her gaze.

"It's a stupid reason. You'll hate me for it." I replied unsurely. I wanted Asako back, not for her to hate me even more. She gaze me a hard look.

"Tell me." Asako ordered, her voice strengthening a little bit. I sighed, glancing at the ground in hopes to regain some confidence. A second later, I met eyes with Asako again.

"I was bored of doing the same thing over and over again." I answered honestly. I saw as more tears formed at the bottom of Asako's eyes.

"After six months, you were bored of me?" She questioned. Hurt was evident on her face.

"NO!" I replied urgently. "No, of course not. I wasn't tired of us. I just wanted a change..Then I met Suki while looking for shoes. One thing led to the next and.." I trailed off, looking away. I couldn't bare to see Asako's face.

"S-so you were tired of me.." Asako muttered, letting the tears flow freely. I stepped toward her. Asako moved away again. I gave up on trying to comfort her physically.

"Please, I just...." I paused to think of what to say next. "Here's what I want to ask of you." I started, watching Asako's reaction closely. "I'm going to close my eyes and count to ten. If you're gone, I won't chase after you. If you're still here we can work something out between us."

"Taiga...I don't-"

"But just know that, if you run, I won't ever give up on making you fall for me again." I told her seriously. Asako gave a hesitant nod. Slowly, I closed my eyes.

"1.

4....

5.....

6......

7.......

8........

9.........

10.........."

I opened my eyes, Asako was gone. My heart shattered into an unfixable mess. The pieces were so broken, that there was no absolute way for someone to fix it. I felt a strange hotness falling down my cheeks. I reached up and touched it.

I was crying.

"Shit.." I wiped some of the tears away. "I'm so sorry......Asako..." I whispered.

"Baka." I heard sniffling from behind me. I quickly spun around. Asako was standing behind me, tears pouring from her eyes. She gave me the smallest smile. I grinned, wiping more tears away. Asako stepped forward, burying herself into my chest. Her petite arms wrapping me into a tight hug. "Baka. Baka. Baka." I couldn't help but to smile back.

"I love you, Asako." I whispered, kissing her forehead. A small giggle was muffled.

"I hate you. Baka."
