On With The Show!

We walk up and I bump into Ed. "What the hell Ruby? We're on in 5 minutes!"

He brings his hands up to his finely groomed gray hair as the audience twitters and talks in the stage area.

"I'm so sorry!"

I bite my lip and notice Brian staring at me, wow, he had really nice eyes....

Someone snapped their fingers in my face and I stepped back, surprised. The Stones disappeared backstage and everything was set in motion again. I took my usual spot behind the glass and waited for the show to start.

"Hello and welcome to the Ed Sullivan Show!"

"Hello ladies and gentleman, now, like I promised, here are The Rolling Stones to perform two songs"

Ed paused,

"And now here they are The Rolling Stones!"

The five Stones ran up onstage and plugged in their assorted instruments. I suddenly had the feeling to get as close as possible to them, so, I slipped out from behind the glass and headed as close as I dared to the stage.

"Ok!"

Mick said into the microphone as he took in the sheer size of the audience.

We had a packed house, and by packed, I mean people were still on the streets trying to get inside.

"Time is on my side

Yes it is

Time is on my side

Yes it is

Now you always say

That you want to be free..."

I hummed along to the music and smiled as I closed my eyes.

When I opened them, Mick was glancing over at me and smiling. Wow, I thought as I tapped the clipboard I always held, these..these Stones; they were brilliant!

The song finished and suddenly they were all walking toward me, off the stage, and I heard Mr. Sullivan re-address the crowd;

"Now, now they'll be back in the second part of the show"

Some girls in the audience screamed as the audience clapped,

"Hey now, they'll be back don't worry"

The show continued on as usual and I went to the small kitchen outside the studio to get them all some drinks.

I came back while trying to balance 5 cups of water on my clipboard (turned tray).

"Here you are guys, some water, I really liked your performance! You were all wonderful!" I sure hope I wasn't blushing, but I could feel my cheeks heat up, oh well.

They each took a cup and said thank you as I hurried back to the little room where I was supposed to be.

I could see the whole theatre from up here in the recording box and a good chunk of the audience was female, from what I could tell. The show cut to commercial and I went back down to hand my uncle a drink, while pretending I hadn't come down to see The Stones up close.

"That was great!" I said as I hurriedly handed the cup of water to Ed.

"I could almost see the whole performance from up in the control room"

The boys all looked up at that and I widened my eyes and shook my head while Sullivan was turned. They seemed to have gotten some sort of message because they each in turn lowered their heads and talked in a low voice to one another.

Ed jogged back onstage and welcomed back the audience, even though they'd never left.

"Ya twelve o'clock

Ya the place was packed

Front doors was locked

Ya the place was packed

And when the police knocked

Those door flew back

But they 'kept on rockin'

Going around and around..."

This time, I'd stayed confined to the glass box. I couldn't hear as well so I just lightly tapped along on my clipboard, watching the screen because it was closer.

There was a close up on Mick and a smile appeared on my face. I patted my bangs and the other people fiddling with the buttons looked back at me. I blushed and turned around, the show was ending and I had to take The Stones back to their room.

I trailed behind them as they headed back to their assigned room. They all sit down and I notice that they're forehead's are glistening with sweat. Brian had a smile on his face, he must love to perform.

Suddenly Mick looked up, into my eyes;

"Will, uh, will you go on a date with me?"

My eyes widen and I look up, surprised.

"Um...."

"I-I know I just met you, and I'll probably never see you again, but would you like to?"

I looked around and noticed everyone else had gone silent.

There was Brian's eyes again, on mine, his smile dropping.

I looked back at Mick and he dipped his head down. I nodded and another smile broke my lips.

"Sure, I'll go, I'm free"

He looked down and smiled real wide, I glanced back at Brian, I don't know why though. He was staring back down at his guitar, twisting the nobs and playing with the strings, smile gone. Now he only looked focused, almost entirely, on his guitar.

Keith came up from behind and smacked Mick on the back. Mick straitened up and closed his eyes.

"Hey Mick, asked the soundcheck girl out!"

Keith and Bill laughed and Charlie looked over.

"Where you two goin'?"

I spoke up,

"Oh I know a great restaurant down the street"

Mick opened his eyes and I asked what time we should go.

"How about tomorrow evening, does 6 sound good?"

I blushed,

"Ya, ya that's great"

Brian brung his guitar up to his neck to tune it, his eyes downcast; on the floor.

"I think I should go now"

I started toward the door, but then I turned around quickly, shoving my address into Mick's hand before heading out the door.
