Why can't people accept people who look or act different from them?

Why can't people accept people who look or act different from them? This question popped into my mind in my reading class today. We were learning about the Japenese interment camps. It's terrible what Japanese Americans had to go through because they looked different from everybody else. Gosh, I hate racists!

I think one reason why people can't accept people who look or act different from them is because they are afraid. They're afraid of people who look or act different from them. I get why people stare at me. They are afraid of my trach. They just can't accept that I have a trach, so they stare at me. Sometimes it's like they're starring into my soul! I hate it! I'm human! I'm not a freaking object that you can stare at! You can't expect me not to be embarrassed or depressed when you stare! It hurts me on the inside. Like, do I really look that ugly to you? Please, just look away if you find me horrifying. Don't stare at me. It's rude. Imagine if you were being stared at.

I have a friend who's in a wheelchair, and she can't move her legs or her hands. Someone called her fat and ugly. Like, why??? Why do you have to say this to this sweet no amazing girl? Why???

Please comment why you think people can't accept people who look or act different from them.
