"I Could be an Accident, but I'm Still Trying"

A/N: Welcome to my first ever MCYT related fanfiction. This is very foreign to me considering I've mostly written about My Chemical Romance, but luckily I've had lots of practice writing in the past year, so hopefully this will be good! Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. :)

(Karl's POV)

I felt like my backpack weighed twice the size of myself, which was very concerning, considering I didn't want to experience chronic back pain before the age of 20. The first day was always like this though. You always had to bring in all your supplies in one run, because there wasn't an opportunity to stuff everything into a locker yet.

I groaned, setting it back down into a chair in the kitchen. I didn't think I was prepared for that just yet. Not until I was done getting ready, anyway.

Heading to the bathroom, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket, and I smiled when I pulled it out and saw the contact name.

"Sapnap :]"

The text was really short and really simple, but I didn't expect much more from my best friend. On the first day, it was hard to expect anyone to be too enthusiastic. After all, it's pretty lame to sleep in for a whole two months and then all of a sudden have to get up at 7 in the morning. At least I thought so.

Sapnap :]: "Hey Karl, do you think wearing sweatpants on the first day will come off lazy? I'm not good with 'first impressions' and all that."

I chuckled at the message in front of me before starting to type out a response.

Karl: "What are you thinking?! Everyone knows you ALWAYS go with jeans on the first day."

I pressed the 'send' button and waited for a response. Those three little typing bubbles appeared, and I was anticipating Nick's reply.

Sapnap :]: "Well what are YOU wearing?"

Karl: "Jeans. Obviously."

Sapnap :]: "No dummy, I mean besides that."

I smirked before holding my phone up to take a mirror selfie. I snapped one, but then decided I was unpleased with it, so I deleted it and held my phone back up to take another.

Peace sign? No. Wait- yes. But WHAT DO I DO WITH MY FACE? I can't smile too much that I look like a maniac, but if I don't smile enough, he'll think I'm sad. Ugh, I thought to myself. It was morning dilemmas like these that really made me question my priorities.

I actually really liked my outfit today, settling on a pair of black jeans with a pastel looking hoodie, as well as my black converse all-stars.

Finally I was able to settle on a pose that looked normal enough, and sent the picture to Nick. When the small 'delivered' tag showed up, I pocketed my phone and ran a few fingers through my hair, trying to tame it.

It finally started to behave and so I smiled and walked back to the kitchen, where my stuff was hanging out. I threw my backpack over my shoulder lazily and stood outside, waiting for the bus to arrive.

I looked at my phone while waiting. Nick had sent me another two messages.

Sapnap :]: "Looking sharp today, I see ;)"
Sapnap :]: *attachment: one image*

Nick had sent me a photo of his own, standing in front of the bathroom mirror. He had evidently listened to my advice, because he was wearing jeans that were slightly torn at the knees, along with a black hoodie and some sneakers. The image made me smile.

Karl: "There's the handsome face I know and love ;)"

We always had been ones for harmlessly flirting with each other. It was our thing, kind of our own little inside joke. Except it wasn't really an inside joke, because anyone could understand the concept of friendly flirting. So I guess it actually wasn't an inside joke, but whatever, it was early in the morning.

When the bus pulled up, I didn't hesitate to get on, looking all around for the boy I had been texting previously. I finally saw him and shot him a grin, going to sit beside him.

"Hey Karl," Nick said when I sat down on the same seat as him.

"Hey Nick? Are you excited?" I said that last part a bit more sarcastically, knowing how much my best friend absolutely despised school. I didn't blame him. I pretty much only attended for the social part.

"Ugh, no. All they're going to do today is recite rules or something like that, and everyone knows the rules already."

I silently agreed, looking around the bus to see who else was on that I might know. Not really anyone. I only had a few more friends besides Nick, but none of them rode the same bus as me. Me and Nick had been on the same bus since middle school, when I first moved into town.

I turned back around to face Nick, who happened to have a very perplexed look on his face. "Problems?" I asked, curiously.

"No not really, but... when did he start sitting on this bus?" Nick lowered his voice to a whisper and discreetly pointed at a kid sitting a few rows in front of us, on the opposite side.

I recognized the kid instantly.

As far as I knew, the kid's name was Garrett, and he had been caught a few years back doing some very questionable things in the middle school. He was suspended for a pretty long time, but I guess he was back now.

"I don't know... I hope he doesn't do anything weird this year."

"That would be a shame."

The ride to school was pretty normal as far as bus rides go. We passed a few trees, but that was probably the most interesting part.

We did however pass by someone walking their dog, and I had to point it out because it was just too adorable. "Nick! Nick! Look at the puppy!" I leaned over him to look out the window as he laughed at me.

He looked out as well after I made a big fuss about it. "Aww! Look at how cute it is." Even though it wasn't looking at us, I still waved out the window which made Nick laugh even more, which in turn made me smile.

When we got to the school I was definitely ready to hop out of the bus. I didn't think my back could take anymore carrying around supplies.

"What locker number did you get?" I asked Nick as we advanced towards the school building.

"Uhhh-" he looked at a number written on his wrist quickly. "167. What about you?"

"I have 169! We're right beside each other!"

"Haha, 69," he laughed, earning a shove from me, almost making him fall over.

"Don't make me get arrested for manslaughter on the first day," I commented while playfully rolling my eyes.

"You wouldn't murder me, you love me too much," he joked right before beaming a toothy smile in my direction.

"Oh whatever, maybe I wouldn't murder you because I just don't feel like getting arrested. You'll never know my motives anyway."

"Sure thing, Karl," he patted me on the shoulder as we headed towards our new locker spots.

I opened mine and cringed at the inside. It was so... empty. Well, I guess that's why I had all this stuff to fill it up with. I wasted no time unloading my stuff into the locker and testing out the combination a few times to try and get familiar with it.

After that, it was almost time for the morning bell to ring.

"What class do you have first?" I asked Nick.

"Math with Miss Smith. What about you?"

"Oh, I have art with Mr. Jones." I was a tad bit disappointed that we didn't have more classes together, but I was sure I would get over it.

After comparing schedules, we found out we had lunch block together, which was a good thing.

"See you at lunch, Karl," Nick smiled, and I waved goodbye, heading to my new class. My new year.

Lmao let me know how this was guys, I would love any feedback whatsoever. By the way, chapters might be shorter than what I'm used to posting since I want to update regularly and not keep you guys waiting. Plus it's easier for me to write with my comfort ship, so I might alternate between the two. Anyways yeah, thank you. :)
