Children
Wow what a creative title, but well I'm studying for my exams and my brain is a mess atm, so don't expect much...
So ehhh... first how many children did Brian have?
Brian is believed to be the father of at least five children. He was not named as the father on the birth certificates of any of them. He rejected all the kids, but some financial settlements were made.
1. Barry David*, born in 1959 to Valerie Corbett; the baby was adopted by other people.
2. Belinda*, born August 4, 1960 to a married woman named Angeline.
3. Julian Mark, born October 22, 1961 to Pat Andrews.
4. Julian Brian, born July 23, 1964 to Linda Lawrence.
5. John (Paul Andrew), born March 24, 1965 to Dawn Molloy; adopted by other people .
*the names change depending on what you read, so please don't quote me on them.
There were some rumours that Marlon Richards was Brian's son as well, because Marlon had a mop of blond hair when he was little and well probably because his mother is Anita Pallenberg as well. Eventually, Marlon grew up to look like Keith Richards and put an end to the rumours.
Of course there were some more rumours, but well they're only rumours, so we stick to the 5 children.
Did Brian care for his children?
Not exactly.
He lived sometime together with Pat Andrews and their son Mark. He even sold his record collection to buy some clothes for the baby, but that's about it. You find certain accounts that Brian was proud to be a father, even if he wasn't very good at it.
He didn't bother with the other children, nor did his parents after Brian's death.
Are Brian's kids heirs to his fortune?
Brian has apparently died £200,000 in debt. Anyway, under the English law at that time, illegitimate children didn't have any inheritance rights. Meaning Brian's parents inherited his estate and received any performance royalties.
What about paternity suits?
Linda Lawrence filed a paternity suit in 1965. Her parents had kicked Brian out of their home at the end of November, 1964 when Brian told them he would not marry her. Brian was "hit by an affiliation order" the following May, according to Bill Wyman's Stone Alone. The suit was dropped later the same year, because Linda had accepted a £1000 in an out of court agreement.
Pat Andrews filed a paternity suit as well in 1966. Brian had cut off all contact with her and their son in 1963. After seeing a news articles about Linda's lawsuit, Pat also filed one. She presented the court with a letter written by Brian in 1962, in which he referred to Pat as his fiancée and stated, "of course we plan to keep our child". Brian didn't turn up in court and the angry judge granted Pat the maximum sum allowed at that time, £2.50 a week for Mark plus another £78 to pay for Pat's court costs and other expenses. After Brian died, the money stopped, according to her.
Dawn Molloy signed an agreement with Andrew Loog Oldham, witnessed by Mick Jagger, that she would accept a settlement of £700 and make no statement about Brian Jones or the child to the press or public.
What became of Brian's children?
There's not much on his first son, except that he was adopted and had his name changed.
His only known daughter Belinda is mentioned in Stone Alone. Bill calls her Carol there. She says her mother was having marriage problems and spent one night with Brian after a dance. She never told him that she was pregnant and remained married to her husband. Carol found out who her real father was when she was fifteen, after her brother brought home a Rolling Stones album. Apparently Brian was a taboo subject in their home, but the girl became interested in reading everything she could about Brian.
Mark is mentioned in Laura Jackson's biography Golden Stone. At the time of the release of the book, Mark was newly married and "working for a multinational corporation". He doesn't have any memories of his father though.
Julian was also featured in Golden Stone. When he grew up he tried to contact Brian's parents, but was turned away. He lives in Cork, Ireland and is a recording artist. He has a son named Brian.
Paul Andrews was adopted and renamed John by his new family. He was raised in Essex. When he grew up he conducted a search for his biological parents. At age twenty-nine he found his mother, who was now living in the USA and Dawn told him who his real father was. John is married with three kids. He works for the British branch of an American car manufacturer.
Sorry for the tumblr posts, but they're hilarious and kind of fitting.
