Mike Banning

Dead silence is all that was filling the air in the living room. My heart and Mike's heart was pounding out of our chests after our eleven year old daughter Emily asked us her question.

"So can I go on the field trip today please? My whole class is going and so is like two teacher aides. They can call you guys when we get there!" Emily begged us.

"Absolutely not!" Mike rose his voice at her question.

"I think it's fine." I told our daughter, which caused Mike to turn my way abruptly.

"What do you mean fine?! She is NOT going on that trip!"

"Do you really think you're going to stop me from allowing her to go? She will be fine Mike. If something happens we will get to her quickly or whatever needs to be done. She doesn't get to go on field trips that much anyway because of the schools funds." I retorted.

Mike grumbled, "Fine. But you will have your teacher call us once you get there and give us hourly updates, no exceptions!"

"I will! I promise!" Emily exclaimed before running up to Mike and hugging him.

"Alright missy, go grab your backpack and give me the permission slip to sign." I smiled at her.

Emily ran for her bedroom to get her backpack. I turned to Mike.

"Babe, she's going to be okay. We will get updates one way or another. If something were to happen, which is a small chance, we will find her and bring her home safely." I smiled at him as I walked over to him and planting a kiss on his cheek.

"Here it is!" Emily yelled as she waved the slip in front of our faces.

I chuckled before grabbing the permission slip to sign my name. I gave it back to her to put in her bag.

"We need to leave now sweetie. Your dad and I have the next three days off so if you are in a situation find a way to get ahold of us. Remember everything we taught you and be smart. I know New York is a ways away but we will get to you or have friends around that area get you. Now, do you have everything you need?" I asked the little blue eyed girl in front of me.

"Yes mama. We will only be gone for today, tonight, and tomorrow with tomorrow night. I still don't know what all we will be doing there."

"Let's get going otherwise we're going to be late." Mike broke our conversation up.

I walked Emily to the car as Mike locked the door and made sure we had everything. Emily opened her door and got in and buckled herself in. Mike and I got in following her actions. I was nervous about letting her go on this trip but I knew she needed to experience something new and exciting like this. I trusted her and her teacher and the aides. That didn't stop me from feeling nervous though.  I broke out of my daydream as we pulled up to the school. We got out of the car and grabbed Emily's bag that had all her necessities in it. We walked her up to the bus they had waiting for her class.

"Oh Emily, there you are!" Her teacher, Mrs. Reyes exclaimed.

"Here she is. Her permission slip is in her backpack. If it's not too much trouble, we would greatly appreciate it if you could give us hourly updates about her and how everything is going. We're really hesitant about this." Mike expressed his concerns to Mrs. Reyes.

"Don't worry Mr. and Mrs. Banning, she will be in great hands. We have three aides going on this trip instead of two because I was concerned about not having enough help. I will be glad to give you updates. I had told the other parents the same thing because I know this is new for them as well. We will take care of them though and keep them as safe as we can." Her words comforted me.

"Alright Em, you know the drill. Behave yourself and always be alert. Do as we taught you. We love you baby. Have fun." Mike choked up before he bent down to hug and give her a kiss on the forehead.

I bent down and joined in. "Bye baby. I love you."

"Bye mom and dad! I love you both!" She yelled out as she ran to the bus and got on.

I laughed at her eagerness. Mike grabbed my hand as we turned around and walked back to the car. We waited until the bus left the parking lot before we left. The car ride home was silent but it wasn't an uncomfortable one. We now sat on the couch just watching tv, still feeling nervous about the trip. Two hours had passed before we got a message from Mrs. Reyes. It was a picture of her, the teacher aides, and the students together. Emily was sitting directly behind Mrs. Reyes on the bus with a huge smile on her face.

"Mikey, look! Emily is happy." I grinned at him as I saved the picture to my phone.

"Thank God." Mike muttered, a faint smile resting on his lips.

Hours passed when the next message came in saying that they had made it to the hotel and had started to settle in before they would be getting food. After that they would be visiting a museum and taking the kids to shop. I paused for a second before looking at Mike then back down at the phone. I replied to her message with, 'Emily doesn't have any money on her.' My phone dinged and I mentally facepalmed at the response 'Yes she does. She has $150 with her.'

"Our child is a mischievous little demon." I groaned to Mike.

"What did she do now?"

"Check your wallet."

I watched as Mike counted his money. "Why do I only have $250 left out of $400?"

I showed Mike the texts. "You've got to be kidding me." He facepalmed.

"She's definitely our daughter. That's payback for you teaching Connor how to hide in the White House walls." I laughed at his facial expression.

It was now dark outside and I had just finished making supper when my phone dinged. Opening up the message I seen that the teacher was just letting me know that the kids were getting ready for bed. I replied back asking her if she could tell Emily that we loved her. She said that Em said she loved us too. Mike walked into the kitchen in his shorts and t shirt.

"Emily and the others are getting ready for bed and she said she loved us." I smiled at Mike as I handed him a plate.

"Good. I'm glad she's having fun. Thanks babe." Mike grabbed my waist and placed a kiss to the side of my head.

I sat on the counter and grabbed the plate next to me and began eating. Mike handed me a glass of wine and stood in front of me.

"Thanks. Did you finish eating already?"

"Yeah, I was hungry. Speaking of that, do we have any dessert?"

"Yep. There's some of that pie left in the refrigerator." I replied as I finished my last bite of food.

"There's only one piece left so we can share." Mike stood between my legs and fed me a bite.

After finishing the pie and wine we made our way to the bedroom. After pulling the sheets down on my side of the bed, I turned around and jumped at Mike standing there looking at me.

"What?" I asked him softly.

He didn't answer verbally but physically. His hands ran up by sides and up to my cheeks. I moved a hand to gently hold onto his arm as his head bent down to capture my lips with his. The kiss was slow and passionate. We broke apart to breathe and my hands moved down to grab his shirt and pull it up over his head. Our foreheads moved to touch again.

"Let's go to sleep." I whispered.

Once we got settled into bed, I was facing him and curled up into his arms, letting our legs tangle together.

"I love you Y/N." Mike whispered lovingly.

"I love you Mike Banning." I whispered back before I fell into a peaceful sleep.

"MIKE LET ME FIX FOOD IN PEACE!!!" I laughed uncontrollably as his arms tightened around my waist as I was trying to make pancakes. He started planting kisses all down my cheek. His phone dinged.

"Mrs. Reyes says they will be visiting historical places today."

"Good." I replied as I placed the pancakes on two plates then moving to pour orange juice into two glasses.

Mike and I ate our breakfast in peace. After cleaning the dishes up, we stood there in the kitchen with music playing and dancing. The song changed to the song that was playing when we met as well as what we used for our wedding song, which made me tear up. Mike's arm wrapped around my waist which made me wrap an arm around his neck. His other hand reached for mine to hold it.

"I remember the first time we heard this song was the same night we met for the first time. You looked so beautiful in that knee length black dress you had on with your converses. I was too nervous to ask you to dance. You took me by surprise when you walked over and grabbed my hand and started dancing with me. That's the night I believed you were the one for me. I never believed in love at first sight but you changed that." Mike chuckled at that memory.

I started crying harder but I was laughing too. My phone started ringing causing us to break apart. I seen Mrs. Reyes' name pop up and I answered.

"Mrs. Banning, I am so so sorry!!! I don't know what happened, everything happened so fast!" Mrs. Reyes started speaking quickly.

"Mrs. Reyes what happened?!" I started freaking out.

"Someone kidnapped Emily! She was with us talking about someone was following us and staring at her then she vanished!! I called the police and they're investigating now trying to find her. Please get here to New York as fast as you can."

"Mrs. Reyes please calm down. We will be there as fast as we can. Tell the police everything you seen and everything Emily told you."

"Please, forgive me."

"It wasn't your fault. You did the best you could and that's what matters. We're getting ready to leave now." I held myself together the best I could.

Our conversation finished and I hung up.

"Emily got kidnapped. Somebody was following her and she told Mrs. Reyes and she tried to protect Emily but somehow the man got her. We have to leave now and hurry there. Call and see if you can get us a helicopter to get us to New York."

I left Mike standing there to make the call as I went and got dressed. I packed our bags and my laptop. My phone pinged again with a message from an unknown number. I clicked on the message and seen it was a video. A voice whispered into the phone, "Mommy, I'm okay for now. I'm in a building somewhere close to the hotel. I'm in the basement. They said something about using me to get money from you and daddy. I sent you the message from this phone number so you could find me. Please hurry." The video cut off. My smart girl.

I ran down the stairs with our two bags and my laptop bag. "She's in a building close to the hotel. They want to use her as a pawn to get money from us. We have to move now. She sent me the message from the phone she contacted me on so we could find her. I should be able to find the exact location."

"The helicopter will be waiting for us at the hospital since it's closer. Let's go."

Mike and I ran to the car and after getting everything loaded, I began tracking the number on my laptop. Emily was only a block away from the hotel. The building did have a basement to it. We made it to the hospital and bolted straight for the helicopter. We began flying towards New York. 'Hang on Em, we're coming,' I thought to myself.

We made it to New York and met up with the police and FBI who were involved. "She's in the basement of a building a block away from the hotel." I showed them the location before putting a bulletproof vest on and placing my gun into the holster. The police gave me and Mike a ride to the building.

"The back entrances are clear and we can sneak in without being spotted. There's a stairwell that leads to the basement the minute you enter." One of the FBI agents informed us.

My phone dinged yet again. Another video message. "Mommy, be careful sneaking in. There's only about six guys here. They're planning on calling you and daddy in about five minutes so please hurry in." I smiled tearfully at hearing her voice. She knew how to track my phone.

"Guys we have to move now. There's six guys in there and they plan on calling Mike in five minutes." I informed the others.

Mike pressed a kiss to my lips before we all rushed to the back and inside. We quietly made it down the stairs and into the basement. With our guns out and safety off, we quietly crept through the hallway and to the door at the end. After getting the signal, Mike and I bolted in with guns directly in front of us and the others right behind us.

"NYPD AND FBI!!! PUT YOUR HANDS UP!!!"

Gunshots rang out through the basement as Mike and I ran to find Emily. We found her in the back corner of the basement with her hands tied.

"You found me!!" Emily cried out with a smile on her face.

"Of course we did baby girl. Nobody will ever hurt you again. How did you contact me?" I asked her still trying to keep myself calm.

"I stole one of the teacher aides' phones right before the man grabbed me. I seen him coming and stole it out of her pocket. I knew I couldn't outrun him and I didn't want to put anyone else in danger." Emily calmly replied back.

"We're just happy that you're alright. We were so scared." Mike grabbed onto her tightly.

"You guys taught me well, so of course I'm alright." She told us with sass.

"Calm your attitude down missy." I joked as I wrapped her and Mike into a group hug.

"The six men drew on us and started firing so we didn't have a choice but to use self defense. You're safe now." An officer told Emily with a smile before walking off.

"Let's go home." Mike said.

"No! I want to continue this trip. I still have the rest of today and some of tonight. There's still so much to do and see." Emily begged us.

"We're staying with you then. We aren't going home without you." Mike told her seriously.

We held hands and began walking back to the others. Once we were cleared to leave we walked back up the stairs and outside. We were met with her classmates, the aides, and Mrs. Reyes.

"Thank goodness you're alright!" Mrs. Reyes cried out as she ran to Emily and yanked her into a hug.

"My parents are staying the rest of the trip." Emily flashed her teacher a smile.

"I would feel better if they did sweetheart. I am so glad you were able to find her. I would've never have forgiven myself if something worse happened to her."

"It wasn't your fault Mrs. Reyes. People know who we are and this is how they retaliate. Emily was taught everything that we thought she should know and be trained for." I informed the woman.

After our conversation and the students hugging Emily happy that she was okay, Emily fell back with us and held our hands. We followed everyone else back to the hotel.

"So...care to explain how you managed to steal $150 out of my wallet without me noticing?" Mike rose his eyebrows at his daughter.

"Funny story..."

"A funny story that you are going to tell me and your mother. Why didn't you just ask like a normal child?" Mike groaned.

"I wanted to see how you would react and I needed money to buy stuff on this trip for us. I'm related to you, normal is NOT an option dad. Plus, why should I explain this to you when you and Connor don't explain to President Asher where Connor goes when President Asher freaks out when he can't find his son?" Emily retorted back.

I cackled at our daughters' response which caused Mike to groan again.

"Woman, this mischievous little demon is definitely your daughter. When we have another child it better be a boy otherwise I'm done with this bs." Mike said sounding like a toddler who didn't get his way, which caused me and Emily to cackle again. Mike huffed loudly and stomped off in front of us.

"You're not going to tell your dad he had $500 to begin with but I stole $100 for us to shop with right?" I whispered to our daughter.

"Never. Us girls gotta stick together, right?" Emily whisper-laughed back.

"Right." I cackled out when I seen Mike glare back at us. I kept holding Emily's hand as we arrived at the hotel.
