3: Ruby

A rush of cold, refreshing air is all around me once I walk through the doors of the Library. My shoulders relax as I spread a small smile. This place is welcoming, I can't say no to that.

Looking up, I notice this place has 3 levels all full of books. Gasping internally, my assumption is they pretty much have all of the books that would be available on amazon.com, possibly even more. Wait, what's that smell? The smell of mints? Ooh, what a wonderful smell. The path of scent leads to the desk in the front of me. An older lady with kind smile welcomes me. She is wearing a light pink dress with a rose in her long, curly hair.

Isn't crowded as i thought, is all I can think as I make my way to the table. "Hey, madam," I put my hand on the table. "Where's the form to- um- do helpy stuff here?"

"Pft," The lady gives a soft laugh, checking under the desk to bring out a piece of paper. "We don't get 'helpy' people that often." She makes quote motions with her fingers. "Anyways, just fill that out. Don't listen to my adult sarcasm, it's just natural from where I come from."

"I'm in 10th grade, miss." Rolling my eyes, I fill out the form. Honestly, I'm short for my age. Around 4'9 or so. My left hand writes across the paper in casualty.

The lady, looking over my paper as I write, comments about this. "Wow, you're left handed? Also, nice cursive. You'd be an extraordinary writer, in my adult lady opinion." She chuckles, placing her elbows on the table. Her pink nails and hands lift up her chin.

"Thanks..." I murmur, continuing to fill out the form. I've never actually gotten a compliment about my writing before. This is new, considering I'm never complimented by anyone. Usually it's an insult to my strength and high self esteem.

Finally, I finish.

Name: Ruby

Age: Eternal

School: Deep in the grounds of death, where I am slaved for 8 hours to write for a piece of paper.

Favorite Book Genre: Action

Why You're Helping Here: Hey! Touchy question. Let's just say I came out to have a good time and I honestly felt so attacked right then.

Turning it into the lady, she reads through it, lifting an eyebrow at some parts. Okay, maybe I should of considered what I wrote over again. It's awkward when the peers up at the end, but I just shrug. "At least I filled all of it out," I glance at the mints and back. "Haha...."

"True," The lady laughs, setting the paper into another pile beneath the desk. "Also, do you want a mint? Your breath does sort of stink, apologies. I'm only being an honest adult that-" She stops talking to notice my agitated stare. "Whoops, okay, you can be off now. Just take the pile of books over there," She points to a medium stack of books on the table. I'd be able to carry it, but it would be hard to stay balanced. "And bring them to the correct parts in the Historical Fiction section. You don't have to carry it all at once. Good luck!"

The lady takes one of the mints and hands it to me, with a large smile on her face. Does she ever stop smiling? It annoys me, but gives relief at the same time. I take it, putting the mint in my pocket. I'll pop that fresh smelling circular thing in my mouth eventually.

Glaring at my shoes as I stomp to the stack of books, this whole library thing won't be as bad as I thought. Honestly, I would be reading whole Harry Potter series by this time in my mind. Probably slamming my head onto a wall with boredom. Running around the halls, causing hilarious mayhem. The only thing that didn't make that whole thought complete is that I don't have anyone fooling around with me.

Woah, the stack of books is surprisingly heavier than I would of expected. Surging all of my energy, I pick it up off of the table. My legs wobble, but thankfully I am capable to straighten my figure.

"Hrrg!" I begin to make my way to the Historical Fiction section with a small grunt of strength. Let's see, Autobiography, Fantasy, Romance (blech!), and finally the Historical Fiction section, which is on the first floor.

With relief, I stagger to the correct section. I'm unable to see ahead of me, but I know what I'm doing. I am Ruby, I am on fire wherever I go. I am a wildfire, the fury of ten men. Destroyer of grades, anything can come against me and I'll take it on.

I

Am

Unstoppable.

Until I just trip over a wire next to the book section.

When I trip, the whole traumatic scene seems to go in slow motion. My thoughts are slower, the only thing going faster is my heart. The books don't completely fall to the ground for some odd reason. Instead, they stop on an object.

What object??

A person.

Apologies for not updating in awhile. To make up for that, tomorrow I'll have another chapter up.

Anyways, if you're looking for another thing to read, go check out my Lapidot book! It has a full plot, and I have schedule for the updates. Honestly, I think I should have my updates on this book scheduled as well.

So... go check out my other fanfiction!
