Things to be Known

She could ask for a flower, and she would get it. She could ask for his time, and it would be hers. She could ask for the very stars in the sky, and Aether would certainly do everything in his power to put them in her hands for her to hold. (Y/n) could cry a single tear, and he would be there to wipe it away. She could call his name, and he would come running without fail.

(Y/n) knew all of these things, and so did everyone else that knew them. However there were things that only Aether knew.

It was not just her secrets that he had knowledge of. He knew of other things such as the glint of infatuation that was present in (y/n)'s eyes whenever they got to spend time together. Aether knew the tone she used when she was upset but hiding it. He memorized the sound of her laugh and the subtle actions she took when she was happy. Sometimes (y/n) felt like Aether knew too much, but then she remembered that no one else knew these things about her.

"I'm back!" Aether called upon his return. (Y/n) looked up from the book that she had been reading to pass the time.

If there was one thing he most certainly knew more than anything else, it was the times that (y/n) craved his attention. She didn't know exactly how he could tell, but she never had to say anything to him. He'd simply look at her and give that knowing smile just as he did now.

"Did you have a good day? I know I did because I got to wake up and see you today," he said as he sat down next to her. He had already began to slip the book from her hands.

"The book will be just fine. I'll help you find your page later." He set the book aside and leaned over to place small kisses onto her cheeks. She began to giggle at how his smooches tickled her skin. "You never answered...my question," he spoke between kisses. Aether stopped to look at her remaining close by for another attack of affection. There were hints of worry hidden in his golden eyes.

"I had a good day. Just a normal one, nothing special."

"Nothing special? Would you like me to make your day special then? There's still time before the day ends. I could take you out somewhere."

(Y/n) strongly considered the idea, but she shook her head at him. "I'd rather spend the rest of today here with you. It's more comfortable that way, and it'll make my day just as special as any other."

"Is that so?" Aether muttered. He proceeded to attack her with kisses yet again. Her laughter fueled his happiness, and it was clear that he was enjoying himself far more than necessary. (Y/n) was not about to let him get away with it either.

She caught him off guard when she started to tickle him without warning. He couldn't defend against the attack at all thanks to his choice of clothing and easily fell victim to his own fit of laughter. And it would have kept being funny if (y/n) had been safe from a counter attack. By the end of it, the two of them were a bit tired from laughing so much.

Aether knew quite a lot about her, but there were also things that (y/n) knew as well. As Aether stopped his harmless assault, she noticed his joy fading into a stronger emotion. He buried his face into her neck and remained hidden there out of her view.

"I love you," he quietly spoke. He could not see (y/n)'s growing smile, but he must have known that it was there.

"I love you too, Aether." They were words that he needed to hear. He gave her the world, and in return she became his world. "Thank you for always taking care of me." He let her go and leaned against her shoulder. Both of them sat there content with their playful use of time.

"We should do that stuff like that more often," (y/n) suggested.

"Don't we have more time left today? The fun doesn't have to end here. Want to have a pillow fight?"

"Aether, you must have forgotten that you've fought three harbingers and an archon. I'm not going to win that."

"You forgot the dragon. Besides, it's not about winning or losing." Aether found her hand and laced his fingers between hers. "I'd never harm you either, you know. I'd do anything for you. Even let you win a pillow fight."

"So you admit to it!" (y/n) teased. Aether laughed a bit but quickly stopped himself, almost reaching to hold his side. "Oh...are you okay?"

"Mhm, just a little tired is all." He let her hand go and repositioned himself so that he could lay across (y/n)'s lap. "We can have that pillow fight later. I'm going to rest for a bit now."

"Of course, take all the time you need." (Y/n) stroked his hair and let him rest without any interference.

Of the things they both knew, it was that their bond was strong, and they believed nothing could break it. That was something that anyone could see just by observing the couple.
