Top Three Winners Circle (Chick-Lit)

Before I go into the results, there were so many good books to choose from. All of you are very talented and this contest became very competitive with only a few marks separating the winners and the various rankings! Moreover, all the judges had very different opinions of each book and this is why this contest was very unique.

I did have to statistically adjust for the scores. One judge gave consistently low marks while another gave consistently high marks skewing distributions widely. So you will see your adjusted scores here that allowed for fair play! If you want to know how the scores were adjusted, I don't mind explaining!

Of course, your classification in the Winners group is based on the total adjusted scores. However, I have also shown the top three rankings for each of the individual judges to show our variability. This should give you a good idea of where you stand! Also, be proud of your achievement because of you are all wonderful writers!

If you would like to know your individual criteria scores and/or you full raw review from the organizer, please PM achudasama1 for more details.

You have waited patiently for this. All the writers were so talented that decisions were extremely arduous to make! But after three rounds, 30 books of which 15 were selected and two sets of eliminations, here are the top three Chick-Lit Genre Books!

I do like the cover but feel it's missingsomething. I love your introduction of how you intertwine the meaning of theAnemones flowers with I am assuming her life. Love it!!! I also love the funfacts as it is different and unique and I do believe this is the first book Ihave seen do this.

I notice some of the sentences could be standalone. For example, in the first chapter you were speaking about how she didn'tknow who her real father was and how the paternity test proves otherwise. Fromthere you go into, Dante having a son asleep a few feet away.

This story is very deep and heart wrenching, definitely not the typical fluffy Chick-Lit but reality based. There are a fewspots in some paragraphs that I had a WTF moment. Other than that, I aminterested in reading more.

I love the summary nothing more nothing less! The author has a good grasp of grammar, punctuation and language. Another book where punctuation is used adeptly. The quality of writing is good, actually it is wonderful! The cover perfectly matches the title and overall suits the theme of the story. It intrigued me that the story began with funeral scene. This work was definitely original and stuck very close to the Chick-Lit Genre requirements. I enjoyed reading this book because it was so different from the rest and made its mark!

I do have some suggestions that I hope you will take into advisement, to give your book the needed attention that it deserves.

For the cover, I would suggest the writer look for high definition images. The current image is a little blurred. I am not sure why you have two names in Author's name. Please stick to one.

Adding too many characters got me confused and a little distracted that I skipped a couple of paragraphs. Please think about curtailing the number of characters you introduce at the beginning of the story, by their role in the chapters.

Too much of information in the first three chapters. Again, like I told all other writers and suggest the same to you as well: 'Show, Don't Tell'.

I would truly appreciate if you add some action to the chapters rather just tell us what he, she or other characters think. Another thing is you want to introduce multiple characters and their significant features or nature. Instead of directly with their name. Such types of introductions, leave a very good impression on readers mind. Try it!

(Judge 2 had some story relevant details, that I am not including here. If you would like the details, please PM me.)

You were my winner for the cover and summary and for Genre Consistency out of all books reviewed! It all tied in beautifully and you really understand what writing Chick-Lit entails. What a story! It is so unique and has so many levels and layers. I was vested. The book is very fast paced and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with everything that occurs. I enjoyed all of the background information provided as it gave me a good reference point. I respect writers who bring sensitive and heart wrenching issues to the forefront for awareness. Some of the scenes described had me so affected, but they were handled with such grace and compassion. I am enamoured! Also, I love books that lean more towards descriptions than narratives, which is true for your novel. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us!

Since this was a competitive round, you did lose marks for spelling, grammar and punctuation. There were issues with misused words, articles and prepositions along with word spacing, capitalization, punctuation and misspelled words. If interested in the editing, I can send you the issues that are easily fixed. While character development was good, the barrage of characters have me very confused and it was hard to keep track of everything. I am not sure how you handle that, but consider introducing characters in a paced manner. Overall, I love the story telling aspects and the writing style that has an important message! Keep writing!

The book boasts of a very interesting plot and writingstyle, though the length of chapters and sentence structuring makes it a bitdifficult to read at times. The characters are nicely crafted and describedthough protagonists can use some extra description. Overall, it's an enjoyableread.

I was very impressed of the showing of Mayabeing observant rather than easily copping out and just telling the reader" Mayais observant". This created a closer relationship to the character and I find myselfbecoming in tune with her.

The twist in chapter three is the definition ofnot judging a book by its cover. Which Maya has been doing towards Reed. Your first paragraph could be cut down into twosentences. The long sentence was a little confusing and I had to reread it acouple of times.

Oh and how you correlated the southern vibe into describing Reed wasexcellent!

One of the best things about your book is that, your writing is effortless and flows beautifully! Also, the novel is more descriptive in nature, but it has just the right amount of narration and dialogues, all blended together in the right proportions. Written in third person perspective, I love how we get both the female and male point of views, without it feeling forced or affecting the flow of the story. Oh yes, the story, very creative, original and unique! Love every part that has some type of significance. This book had me so immersed in the story that I wanted to keep reading! Lastly, phenomenal character development! There are comparison, analogies, contrasts, event shifts and further details about the characters is present in the dialogue and behaviour as well. This story has it all for me!

There are some minor issues with a missing adverb and some misused prepositions and determiners that reduced marks for me. The biggest impact was on your cover and summary. Refining that will cause readers to flock to your story. I hope you will consider that suggestion. I am very excited to read what happens next! For the Chick-Lit Genre, you are one of my favourite authors!

The book has a nice flow, is apt according tothe genre and has a nice writing style. Sentence structuring could be improvedthough. The very first mistake I noticed in the summary wasn't a goodimpression, but the book itself seems to be quite a nice read.

I enjoyed the chapters read. You could tell alot of Tender Loving Care went into writing this story. The flow was great andall the characters introduced had full realistic personalities.

Gypsy could easily be the girl next door, bestfriend or someone's sister.

Great job!

This book was very unique in its narrative style and dialogues, where both of the devices had so much to say about the characters and the story line. You definitely know how to work the aspect of 'Show and Not Tell' that Judge 2 looks for in books. Even in short chapters, there was so much that occurred. Plus, the book is polished, where aesthetic aspects of graphics and music create an ambiance. You have shown all concerns that plague women from dating, relationships, marriage and motherhood in such a varied perspective! For your cover and summary, everything is tied together and makes so much sense! This book is very impressive!

The mistakes found were extremely minor and center around punctuation. They are easily fixed. Truly, I have no suggestions. You really know what you are doing. I am just honoured that we got a glimpse into your creative process and that you considered entering the Genre Awards! I look forward to revisiting and reliving Gypsy's exciting adventure! Wonderful job!
