Chapter 15

THREE MURDERS

The next day, Greg and Riley dropped us off at the school. They didn't help us with the luggage or the settling in, they just dropped us.

I wheeled my suitcase to inside the building of the girl's dorms. I hadn't expected girls and boys to share rooms, but I didn't like that Archer was going to be so far away. It would cause miscommunication between us in the mission.

We weren't supposed to carry phones on us, so we didn't have phones, just an Academy issued communicator. It was definitely bugged, so yesterday I had gotten Archer to buy two pairs of disposable walkie-talkies.

I hadn't changed their frequency to a secured one, but I planned to do that today. I got my dorm key, and I didn't want to deal with having a roommate.

I opened the door to the dorm, and there was a girl already in the dorm. But I recognised this girl from the pictures in the Academy bundle of information. In front of me stood Kyra Griffith, daughter of Kylan Griffith.

Red hair, green eyes, 5'8 ft, yep, this was Kyra Griffith.

"Hi, I'm your dorm mate." I greeted her.

She scoffed, "Yeah so?"

"Shouldn't we be friends or something as we'll be sharing this dorm?" I asked her.

"My father is just making me stay here for one year. One miserable year, and I plan to make it go as quickly as possible." She said, "Plus, I just don't go around befriending any random girl. I'm much too popular for that."

I rolled my eyes, but bit my tongue, so I wouldn't say anything ridiculous and blow my golden opportunity to be her dorm mate.

I unpacked my clothes and books and went through the syllabus of the school. Everything seemed simple enough, but if this was the level of education these students had, they would never reach my level in their lifetime.

Kyra's friends came to hang out in the dorm, and she very rudely kicked me out of the dorm. I could've fought and stopped her from walking all over me, but right now, the best thing was to keep my mouth shut till she actually opens up to me or I get close enough to infiltrate her father's 'business'.

I used the Academy comm to tell Archer to meet up with me. "Hey. Can you come to the garden right outside your building?"

"Give me five minutes." I heard his voice say.

I waited patiently on the bench for Archer, thinking of ways this mission could go wrong. Both of us had probably seemed too unreal to the principal. First, with the advanced test and then with the badminton match.

I saw Archer come out of his building, with sunlight streaming down on his hair. His hair looked reddish-golden, and they looked amazing, and I wanted to reach out and ruffle them.

His caramel eyes also looked golden, I guess this is what 'golden hour' was supposed to be. I took a deep breath and told myself to control my feelings.

"Kyra Griffith is my dormmate." I told him.

He asked, "But the intel we got- isn't she a day school student?"

"I don't think so... She told me her father is making her stay here for one year." I informed him.

Archer thought for a moment, "Please be careful. Keep your guard up all the time. The mission hasn't even started, and you're already in danger."

"Yeah, I know. There's something sinister going on here. The Academy wouldn't send their best assassins for an information-gathering mission. That's why they have informants." I confessing my fears to him.

He nodded, "Talking here isn't safe either. They could have agents spying on us as we speak."

"I'll give you the walkie talkie by tomorrow. Stay safe." I told him and got up to leave.

I roamed around in the campus for half an hour, then got bored, and went back to my dorm. Thankfully, Kyra Griffith and her friends had gone, so I figured I'd draft a report to send to the Academy.

I was almost done with it, when I felt a shadow creep up behind me. I didn't make any rash moves, still letting the man think he had the upper hand. I kept on writing, while keeping keenly aware of the man's movements behind me.

The scary thing was- I didn't know if the man was from the Academy or from the mafia.

The man approached closer and when he was in range, I threw my pen which I had been writing with, but I had switched the ink in it with a wicked needle. I had taken a shot blindly, without being sure of his exact location, but I was confident I had hit him somewhere on his chest.

I turned around, and I saw the needle was perfectly inserted in the place where his heart was supposed to be in. Yikes. That would be a hard mess to clean.

The man wasn't dead, but he would be in the next five minutes without medical help. I decided to use the time to interrogate him.

"Who are you?" I asked menacingly, holding my new butterfly knife to his neck.

He laughed weakly. "I'll never tell you."

"Who sent you? The mafia?" I asked digging my knife deeper in his neck, but making sure not to pierce the skin.

"Look, I'm going to die anyways, so cut the crap," He said, annoyed.

"I'll seal your wound, if you answer my questions." I told him.

He actually seemed to consider it, but shook his head and said, "Boss would kill me anyways. Not being able to kill a child." He scoffed at himself.

"Who is the boss you speak of?" I asked.

He doubled over, coughing, and his body went numb. He was dead.

I cursed, annoyed that I couldn't get any answers out of him. My interrogation method was terrible. First that fake Greg and Riley, then this one.

Wait. What if they were sent by the same people?!

I put the decomposing balm on the man, and hid him in the closet. If I took him anywhere, I would be risking the CCTV cameras noticing me with a dead body.

I wondered if I should tell Archer about the man. I decided against it, as it was just a trifle matter, and it would be best not to worry him about it.

3 murders till now. Honestly, that did not bother me as much as it should have. That scared me.

I finished the report, and sent it to the Academy by a special service they ran. I don't know why, but the Academy didn't trust the information to be sent online.

Kyra came back while I was just preparing to go to bed. I was tired and I just wanted the school year to start. I was kinda excited to see what kind of work these kids had to do.

I actually wanted to live like a normal teenager. I wanted to have fun, go to parties, and I wanted to be free. Tomorrow is a step towards my freedom.

"Ugh, you're still here." Kyra groaned.

I said happily, "Yep. Happy to be here."

She rolled her eyes at me, and busily scrolled her iPhone watching Instagram. Phones weren't allowed in the school, but if I pointed that out, there was a huge possibility that she would hate me more.

I closed my eyes and lay awake for a while before I finally drifted off to sleep.
