after completely ignoring the friendgroup in school, mei finally got herself to talk to them after a few weeks. it's not like she ever hated them, it was mostly because of hao; the duo was all goofy on text but they've both been very rude to each other in person, making the two pissed off all the time.

but now, she had to see him again outside of campus, and she doesn't know if it's a good thing or not. but it's fine, she has the others, and hanbin. now she was hanging out with them all at a shopping centre for fuck knows why. but she missed them all, so she's actually quite happy.

she walked out of ricky's car and thanked their driver, who only replied with a thumbs up. ricky sighs and turns to mei who had her arms crossed. "they're all already here." he looks at his phone.

mei nods, "okay, then we should go inside right?"

"yeah, i'm just shocked they were all here before us." ricky chuckles. "you're usually always first."

"of course i am." the girl scoffs jokingly, though it obviously wasn't a joke since it was a true fact.

the duo had also become close lately – after the first monthly evaluation, ricky and mei's parents had become pretty close, meaning the two were also very close.

the benefit of mei having two incredibly kind and extroverted parents made it easier for her to have so many friends, even though she wasn't the best at making new friends outside her parent's business.

as the 'rich duo' (nickname by gyuvin) reach a random store in the shopping centre, the group of 8 already notice them, yujin running towards them immediately. "mei!!" he rests his arm on her shoulder. "have i grown even more taller than you?"

mei scoffs, shoving the youngest's arm off of her. "sure. you think that."

the three joined the group who were all greeting mei with smiles, as hao didn't say a single word and kept his eyes locked on his phone (mei noticed he was looking at a black screen).

"sooo it's time for a shopping trip to heal ourselves before the next evaluation exam!!" matthew exclaims.

taerae laughs at the boy's cheery behaviour, "it's literally shopping, we've been shopping together so many times."

"yeah but mei is here." gyuvin says, putting his arm around the girl's shoulders. "so where should we go first? your choice." he says to her.

mei frowns. "why the fuck am i choosing?"

hanbin removes gyuvin's arm from mei's body, "because you are, where do you want to go?" he grins, looking at gyuvin's knowing eyes.

gyuvin, gunwook and yujin laugh altogether as mei sighs, looking at hanbin. "can't we just split up? a group of nine is too–"

yujin interrupts her, "YOU'RE SOO SMART!!" he yells as he pushes hao into hanbin and mei. "you guys can be in a group!"

hao rolls his eyes and sends an annoyed look at ricky, pleading for help in silence, in which the boy understood straight away. "i'll come with them too." ricky says.

hao smiles patting ricky's back, making mei look at the group she was put in confusedly, "so we're splitting into two groups?" she asks.

gunwook nods enthusiastically, "yep! we'll see you guys in an hour, we'll meet at the food court." byeeee!!" he sings, pulling the other boys away.

this left hanbin, mei, ricky and hao standing outside a random shop. "mei you can still pick where to go first." ricky says.

mei sighs. "well i wanted to buy some jewellery."

hanbin smiles, grabbing her hand. "let's go then!!!" he drags her away to any shop that he found good enough for mei's expensive jewellery levels.

ricky begins to walk behind and chuckles at hao. "you've been quiet." he says. hao was usually quite loud when he's with the group, but today it was different.

"why would you let her come?" he sighs, "i don't want to be around her. especially when she's all out here flirting with my bestfriend."

ricky snorts. "weren't you like almost flirting with her on text?" he looks at hao's disgusted expression.

"that was on text, i don't mean anything on text." the boy shrugs, glaring at hanbin and mei from behind. "but why does he have to be with her all the time?"

ricky pats the other's back, watching hanbin pull mei into an expensive looking shop. "jealousy suits you a lot."

hao scoffs, "you didn't even answer what i said." he says as the two soon reach where the other duo were, looking at jewellery.

"you know, this is a branch of the store near my house." mei says, turning to the three.

hao wished he could've said no one asked but he chose not to ruin the mood and his friends' day. "oh i forgot about that!" ricky chuckles.

"the one where we got the key necklaces?" hanbin asks, pointing at their matching necklaces.

mei nods, making the two chinese boys look at their necks. hao didn't like the sight of it, very clearly.

ricky chuckles, "wait why haven't i noticed that they're actually the same? are they actually matching?"

mei shakes her head, "it's like a couple or friendship one, renjun has a lock necklace to match with me." she explains, making ricky nod as he turns to hanbin.

"what about you hanbin? do you have a matching partner yet?" he asks.

hanbin smiles, patting hao's shoulder who looked at his friend in confusion. "well now since we're here, i'll buy hao the lock one."

hao finally smiles and decides to speak, "you don't need to, i can buy it.. if it's not that expensive."

hanbin shakes his head, "no worries, you're my bestfriend i should do that!" he says with a grin. all of the annoyed thoughts hao had about hanbin were suddenly forgotten.

a worker walks towards them, "mei, it's been a while!" she says, making mei turn around and gasp.

"yujin!!" mei screams, embracing her favourite girl in the world. "i've missed you."

"yujin?" hanbin asks, looking at the older girl questioningly. "that's not yujin." mei snorts at the boy's stupid remark.

"choi yujin." yujin smiles, patting mei's head. "i used to work for her family."

mei nods, "anyways, do you still have one of the lock necklaces? you know the one that renjun and i got?"

yujin nods excitedly, "we recently got the new design back too, do you want me to show you them?"

"for these two." mei says, pointing at the two boys. "you can help them right?"

yujin nods, "yes! no worries, come with me." she points at the opposite side of the store. "i'll talk to you another time mei." she winks before leading the two away, leaving ricky and mei alone again.

"do you want anything?" she asks the boy who shook his head, "okay, you'll be stuck with me looking for some new earrings, then." she smirks, pulling the younger to a display of over a dozen expensive looking necklaces and earrings.

the girl's eyes lit up at the sight, "fuck which one should i get?" she asks ricky in excitement. "oh how i love money."

the boy shrugs, "what do you want?"

"i want to buy new diamond earrings, my old ones are like three months old and i'm getting bored." she chuckles, looking through the glass excitedly.

ricky chuckles, understanding her. "you really are spoiled, aren't you?"

"maybe." mei giggles, still staring closely at the earrings. "i haven't spent a lot of money in a while, so you know."

"rich girl problems i see." ricky says, leaning closer to the glass too. "those ones are cute." he points at a simple pair of diamond studs.

mei looks over at where he pointed and she grins. "they're so pretty!" she looks at it through the glass, "should i try these on?"

"mei they're studs, don't you have many of these? i was only joking, but they are cute." ricky laughs, noticing a diamond stud already in her helix piercing.

mei shakes her head. "well i want more," she says, looking around for a worker. "i'm always the happiest when it comes to getting new jewellery."

ricky nods. "i agree, i love buying new earrings for my piercings – it's so healing for some reason."

"oh my god right??" she chuckles, turning to see hao, hanbin and yujin walking back to them. "oh my fucking god hao took his jumper off." she stares at the boy who was paying no attention to her.

"why is that so shocking?" ricky whispers with a laugh. "you always see him without a jumper off in uni."

"fuck he looks so good with a black shirt–" she whispers back, hitting ricky's arm. yet hao was still walking towards them not even looking at her.

"don't you think it suits him?" yujin smiles as the three arrive, pointing at hao's necklace. "it's the new design of it."

mei stares at the necklace in awe (definitely not looking at hao instead) and looks up at yujin. "i'll come back to buy one for renjun soon." she grins.

hanbin chuckles, "what are you getting?" he asks the girl who turned back around in excitement.

"oh! yujin can i try these studs on?" she points at them through the glass as the older girl squints at it before nodding.

"i'll be back." she says, "my boss has the keys for the more expensive displays, it might take me a while. is that okay?"

mei nods. "go on, we'll wait." she smiles. "hanbin don't you think these are really cute?" she asks the boy who walked over next to her, putting his arm around her shoulders.

hao scoffs at ricky from the sight, watching the two mumble and talk about it right in front of him. hao had also decided earlier that he's going to ignore and not talk to mei to control his feelings. annoyed feelings, nothing romantic. he had convinced himself.

"oh they're cute! but wouldn't you already have something like this?" hanbin chuckles. "is the rich nepo baby instincts making you want to buy more?"

mei rolls her eyes, "shut up with the nepo baby. but yes i want to buy more."

hanbin looks at her and smiles. "but your piercings always look pretty." he puts her hair behind her ears.

"you think?" she looks up at the boy who pinched one of her cheeks.

"of course, but if you want, get them." he nods.

she turns to ricky and hao, "is that a waste of money or should i actually buy these?"

ricky shrugs, "you have the money, do what you want with it."

mei hums. "i think i will, i need a pre-exam gift." she chuckles.

"what's your post exam gift going to be?" hanbin asks, rubbing her bare shoulder.

she looks at ricky, "i'm going to this fashion event with ricky, i think that's a good gift." ricky nods with a cute smile.

"woah a fashion event?" hanbin asks interestedly. "i didn't know you were that into it besides your rich ass outfits." he chuckles.

"it's inevitable for a nepo baby like her." ricky laughs, making mei look at him with a glare. "okay, sorry. i was joking."

hao was looking – well, it was more like glaring at hanbin's hand. he doesn't know why something so simple could piss him off. mei wasn't 'all that special to him' anyway. to take his attention off of it, he pushes past mei and looks at himself in the mirror.

mei takes hanbin's arm off of her and turns to hao in the mirror as he admired the necklace. "it suits you surprisingly." she says, which he didn't respond to. "wow okay, don't thank me then."

ricky looks at hao, "i think it's perfect for yours and hanbin's friendship, since it's like yours could never be unlocked or broken." he says, though he knows what he said could possibly be a lie.

hanbin chuckles, "right?" he plays with his own necklace. "even better mei and i have matching lock ones now."

hao tried not to say something rude after that, still highkey checking himself out in the mirror. but he notices yujin walking back with keys and he turns around, making room for the girl,

yujin thanks him and unlocks the draws underneath to take out the diamond studs. "okay, let me put these on for you. take these ones out." she says, pointing at mei's silver hoop earrings.

mei nods, taking her turn in the mirror as she quickly takes the hoops out and passes them to hanbin to keep safe. yujin grins and effortlessly put the earrings into the girl's ear, "ooh these are so your style!!" she says in excitement.

mei checks them out in the mirror, "should i get these?" she asks the four behind her as she kept moving her head to make sure they looked good on her, which they did.

yujin, ricky and hanbin all nod at her when she turns around. "they suit you." hanbin says in admiration.

"what do you think, hao?" ricky asks, tapping the boy who seemed to not even spare her a glance.

"they're alright." he says lazily, not looking up.

"yep, you should get them!" ricky nods, "get those diamond studs."

mei nods and turns to yujin, "i'll pay and keep these in." she says, yujin nodding and walking to the cashier desk.

"spending money is so fucking fun." mei giggles as she taking her card out. "seven million won gone.." she sighs in fake a dramatic voice, making yujin giggle.

behind her, the three boys were talking. "i forgot that she's like, rich rich." hanbin chuckles. "spending that much after one look."

"nepo baby." hao scoffs, his arms crossed. "why is she making buying boring ass diamond earrings such a big deal?"

ricky snickers. "come on, you know what mei's like. you can't blame her."

mei then walks towards them with a satisfied look, "yujin said you can pay now hanbin." she says, pointing at the cashier desk.

hanbin nods at her. "okay." he says before walking towards the cashier.

the three were now stood looking at each other, well it was mainly just hao looking at ricky to avoid talking to mei.

"do you like it?" she asks hao innocently to start a conversation.

hao ignores her and looks at the younger, "should i study tonight?" he asks ricky who only nods.

mei scoffs. "i fucking asked you a question."

"don't you think spending over seven million won on ugly studs is a bit absurd?" he asks, making mei scoff again.

"what is your problem? i tried being nice." she says in annoyance.

"i think i should study when i get home, so i can be first again." hao shrugs.

mei almost goes crazy. "hello??? did you forget i'm literally right here???" she asks, waving her hand in the boy's unfazed face.

before hao could annoy her once again, hanbin walks towards them. "right, where are we going next?"

"clothes?" ricky suggests, "i really need some new ones." the others nod.

"bro why is this kid ignoring me." mei complains, looking at hao with a pissed off face.

hao ignores her again and turns his back against her to face hanbin and ricky. "let's go."

mei was already being frustrated with the boy's weird behaviour. they've been here barely an hour and hao acting like this when she thinks hasn't done something in particular to make him act like this (to hao, she definitely did do something).

and this repetitive hao pissing mei of scenario had carried on for the next hour during their shopping trip, making both ricky and hanbin amused.

now, they were all sat in a booth for food. the restaurant was (han) yujin's choice and they all had met up with a bunch of shopping bags. mei definitely looked like the had the most bags (she forced the three boys to go to every single shop).

moral of the story: maybe don't bring a careless wealthy girl out shopping. who knows how much she spent already.

they had all ordered their food already, letting them all talk. mei was sat in between hanbin and gyuvin and she was enjoying her very unserious comeback about studying until hao decided to butt in.

"you're so right, they shouldn't treat us like this with exams every month.we basically have no free time." gyuvin complains.

mei chuckles. "i don't need to study, i always have free time."

"we get it, you're some sort of prodigy." taerae rolls his eyes. "you're a gifted child."

mei takes a sip of her iced tea. "i know right, and yet everyone thinks i'm a bitch."

"i'm surprised you haven't fought someone yet." jiwoong laughs, "from the way people always talked about you."

"you guys say this all the time, that's only because i'm not around people i despise." she scoffs.

"but you're still lucky! you can do anything you want." gunwook says in jealousy. "if i were you i wouldn't even be in university."

mei shrugs. "i could've had a private music tutor but my parents want me to have human interaction."

"surprised you're still here." hao says, FINALLY saying something to her.

this had definitely pissed her off, since he wanted to ignore her for a whole hour and now he wants to speak to insult her? "oh so now you want to say something?" she sneers.

"i got sick of your voice." the boy shrugs, sipping some water with a smug smile on his face. "no one cares, trust me."

"what the fuck did i do to you damn? i haven't even done something so bad." she rants.

"you just piss me off, please just learn how to shut the fuck up." he says. "you talk like you're some top status bitch."

she looks up to face him, the boy perfectly being sat right opposite her. "do you have a fucking problem with that?"

"clearly." he scoffs. "dragging us on your little rich girl shopping spree, do you enjoy using people?"

the girl was in utter disbelief. "what the hell are you talking about? if you didn't want to come along you could've fucked off with the rest of your pals."

the group was then silent again, choosing not to interfere with their (very entertaining) argument for the millionth time. at this point are they really surprised?

"i didn't think you'd be that annoying." he shrugs, "ever realised your ego is bigger than your height?"

"funny one." she says sarcastically. "you talk about my ego as if you didn't talk down on me when we met." (truth is they talked down on each other when they met though).

"eh but you're just more annoying when you speak." he yawns, trying to rile her up again. "i wonder how your household puts up with you."

"i wonder how your household puts up with their son who has no fucking life. you spend it writing on paper and chatting shit." she scoffs.

"at least i do something other than drink alcohol when one small event happens in my life?" he retorts. "maybe do something other than drunk texting people all of the time."

"bro i'd rather down a bottle of vodka on it's own than study when i feel like shit. fucking nerd." she glares at the boy who still had a smug look plastered on his face.

"i don't think uni would like it if they knew our top student drank every week instead of studying, would they? and how are you going to get a job like that? or do you rely on your parent's little business?" he snickers.

"i don't give a shit if they found out, and no. you know i want to be a fucking musician, don't you?"

"i don't pay attention to what you say in music." he shrugs. mei couldn't lie that lowkey hurt, she hated being told that.

she scoffs. "fairs then." she looks at gyuvin with an annoyed face. "your friend is some dickhead you know."

"fucking weirdo. you flirt with me all the time and want to piss me off all the time." hao chuckles dryly.

"did they take the hater pill or.." gunwook whispers? making the rest of the group shrug with amused faces.

"i hope you know i would never want to get with you." she says without looking at him. she was definitely lying.

on the side, the youngest trio sat whispering to each other about what had just went on again. no one was fazed of course; this happened every time the two 'geniuses' spoke in person.

"yeah sure, i saw the way you were looking at me earlier." he laughs, mocking the heart eyes he noticed she was giving him.

an 'oooohh' was let out by matthew, immediately having his mouth covered by taerae's to shut him up.

hanbin's eyebrows furrow. "when?"

"she was sending heart eyes to me." hao laughs, "in the jewellery shop."

mei rolls her eyes again. "god i'd never thought i'd be going from wanting to hear you talk to wanting you to never talk again." she sighs.

hao shrugs. "hm, i'll go for a bit then. you always have hanbin to talk to don't you?" he jokingly says, but he stood up.

"um what are you doing?" jiwoong asks in confusion. "don't tell me you're leaving after your daily argument."

hao shakes his head. "i'm going to the toilet." he says as he walks past the other boys and out of the booth.

mei scoffs. "give me a second." she says, getting up and going straight after him. "hao come here you fucking whore."

the girl stops him just outside of the food court, making him look down at her. "what?"

"what's your problem? you were so fucking rude today and i haven't even done anything to you."

he laughs at her jeeringly. "you're really that stupid?"

mei scowls. "what are you talking about? are you still mad i came first or what?"

hao steps close – very close to her as he leans down to reach her level, their faces inches apart. "mei i have a certain feelings of hatred for you." he whispers. "the more you talk about yourself the more jealous i get."

she was taken aback by the closeness but she stays calm. "what do you mean by that?"

he scoffs. "maybe think about how perfect your life is and when you speak about it. it pisses me off. i worked hard to get first, and your personality is vexing."

"oh so you are mad about that still?" she laughs in his face – quite literally. "well if you really want to stay there with your hard work, better work harder."

"what are you talking about?"

"i know what you're like now; our 'rivalry' really seems to bother you, and it's fun pissing you off." she chuckles.

"it's fun acting like you have some sort of crush on me?" he ridicules.

mei smiles, putting one of her hands on his shoulder as their faces stayed at the same close distance. "of course it is, but i don't have a crush on you." she laughs. "you should probably know the difference between finding someone attractive and liking someone for their personality."

hao leans back and scoffs. "you're fucking weird."

"eh i've been worse" she shrugs. "but you should really stop acting like a bitch towards me."

he crosses his arms as he still looked down at her. "no thanks. if you want i can go worse than today."

"sure." she shrugs, looking to the side to notice the waiter at their booth already. "ooh, food's here." she changes the subject, walking back to the booth.

mei sits back down and she exhales in relief. she didn't seem like it but during that short interaction, she had been so nervous to the point she had realised something.

the other boys kept asking her if she was okay, she just nodded and downed her iced tea to calm herself down from being so close to the boy's face.

the food was places on the table, but she decided to tap ricky instead. "what?" he says, mei responding with pointing at his phone, indicating for him to open it.

ricky sighs, noticing the urgency in her face. hao finally had sit down and the duo open their phone to text even though everyone was around.
