San found his consciousness returning to him abruptly at the feeling of him being shaken by the shoulders.
The time was currently around 1am, and as San came to all he registered was the warm presence of Wooyoung next to him. San, feeling a bit embarrassed at having fallen asleep next to his boyfriend, rubbed his eyes with his hand as to bring himself to being fully awakened and aware.
It was then that he realized that Wooyoung lay still asleep next to him; and the figure who had shaken him awake was currently dashing towards the other side of the bed as to wake up the other boy as well.
"...Huh?" was all San could say, his blurred vision finally focusing on his surroundings. It was then he took in Wooyoung's mother, reaching down to shake her son's shoulders as she had done to San's.
The tall woman turned to look at San, the anxious look on her face quickly being picked up by the boy.
"San! You're awake. Can you do me a favor?" she said in a hushed tone, Wooyoung turning over in response to her shaking him. San, a bit concerned at this sudden confrontation, nodded, his eyes still adjusting to the dark.
"Wake Wooyoung up and get him out of here," she said, her stern voice suggesting it was not a request, but a command.
"What?" San asked, sliding out of the bed and standing up as to follow her command regardless.
"His dad had a lot to drink and he's throwing a tantrum. I can't calm him, all I can do is buy you two some time to leave," she said, her voice growing increasingly worried. San, feeling the mother's panic spread to him, nodded once more.
The tall woman gave one last hopeful look at San before turning and striding towards the door, practically dashing out into the hallway.
San quickly got to work at waking his boyfriend, succeeding only after a short time period.
"...San?" the younger boy said as he came to.
"Get up, we're leaving," San said, helping the boy sit up in bed.
"What? Why??" Wooyoung said before yawning, and blinking a few times as to wake himself.
"Your dad," was all San had to say. Wooyoung instantly found his drowsiness disappearing at the statement, the adrenaline rush having dispelled it.
With both now standing, San felt Wooyoung grabbing at his hand in anxiousness. San took it gladly, and brought Wooyoung's hand up to leave a small kiss there before hurrying out of his bedroom alongside him.
A dreadful silence filled the air as the two hurried down the hallway and made their way to the first floor, both choosing to not mention the faint sound of shouting they began to hear through the walls far away.
"I knew something was wrong earlier... dammit," Wooyoung muttered as they both grabbed their things near the front door, slipping on their shoes quietly.
San unlocked the front door, urging Wooyoung through first before following. He shut it as softly as he could behind them, and thus began walking down the sidewalk alongside the other.
"I'm- I'm so sorry," Wooyoung choked out after around ten minutes of strolling, hand in hand. San glanced over, alarmed at the other's tone.
"Wooyoung?? Oh, baby..." San said in surprise as he saw the younger glance away from him, bringing a sleeve up to subtly wipe his cheek. Wooyoung covered his face on instinct, not wanting the elder to see his tears.
Having stopped walking, San found himself instinctually standing in front of Wooyoung to place his hands on his shoulders.
"Woo..." San tried, Wooyoung still hiding his face behind his hands. "It's okay angel, will you look at me?"
At this Wooyoung took a shaky breath, lowering his hands as to reveal his tear streaked cheeks to the other, flushed from either embarrassment or stress.
"Honey..." was all San could say as he reached up, gently wiping the tears off of Wooyoung's cheeks with his thumbs. Wooyoung seemed to shudder at the action, gripping San's wrists with his hands.
"I don't... even know why I'm crying! ....I'm so stupid!" he sobbed out, a bit roughly pushing San's hands away from him as he returned to using his sleeves to hide his face.
San felt his heart hurt as he took in Wooyoung before him. Just the sight of the boy's tears was enough to make San want to fight the world that made his beloved feel like this.
"Wooyoung, none of this is your fault, okay?" San said gently, inching closer to the boy as to not startle him.
Wooyoung only shook his head.
"I never should've told them. I should have just run away, or something!" Wooyoung began ranting, abandoning his efforts to hide his face as he caught San's gaze.
"I don't know why you're still even here! All this running away late at night, fighting... you should have left me by now," Wooyoung continued, barely able to keep his tone stable as he forced out the last words.
"Hey!" San finally snapped, his voice coming out the harshest he had ever spoken to Wooyoung. "Don't you dare say that. I would do anything for you, do you understand?"
Wooyoung stopped ranting at the words, stunned into silence. "I just... I know my dad will do something! You should leave me before you get hurt," Wooyoung continued, forcing an incredibly fake smile through his tears.
At this, San stepped up to be face to face with Wooyoung, the younger boy's expression showing both confusion and worry.
"Jung Wooyoung, do you honestly not want to be with me?" San said, causing Wooyoung's confused expression to change into one of pure panic.
"I... no, that's not what I meant! I just..." Wooyoung trailed off, seeing the other boy begin to tear up as well.
"Hey...! Hey no, I'm the only one allowed to cry here!" Wooyoung said half-joking and half-panicked, reaching forward to lightly hold San's face in his hands.
"Then don't tell me to break up with you!" San replied in a rather distressed tone, causing Wooyoung's heart to melt on the spot.
Wooyoung quickly leaned forward, still holding San's face in his hands as he needily kissed the other boy. San kissed back roughly, the yearning between both showing clearly in the way San gripped behind Wooyoung's neck as well.
The two broke apart quickly for air. Wooyoung leaned in once more, but found himself being stopped by San, who held a hand over his mouth.
"Wooyoung," San said, seeing the younger's questioning expression. "If you kiss me right now, that means you understand that I will never break up with you. Got it?"
Wooyoung, eyes wide as San slowly took his hand away from his mouth, barely was able to comprehend what San had said to him.
As if it had been commanded by the divine, Wooyoung leaned in to kiss San with everything he had. He swore that every ounce of love he had within his body became dedicated to the boy at that moment.
The moment they broke apart, San engulfed Wooyoung in a tight hug, as if afraid he would disappear upon letting him go. Wooyoung hugged back, hearing San murmuring sweet nothings of adoration against his neck.
"San..." Wooyoung said softly, his tears having stopped flowing by now. A mere silence came in response from the other boy, somehow indicating he was listening.
"I hope you know I've never been this serious about anyone," Wooyoung admitted, rubbing circles on San's back. "I'd never want to leave you."
San felt a relieved laugh bubble up within him. "That's good. Now I don't have to put that ring I bought to waste."
Wooyoung paused, pulling away. "You bought a ring?"
"No. I didn't, just wanted to see how you'd react," San smiled, feeling himself cheer up already at the change of topic.
"I was about to scream," Wooyoung grinned as he joked, grabbing San tightly by the hand and squeezing him.
San shook his head, Wooyoung's happy demeanor already infecting him as well. "Yeah, no way I could afford a ring," he laughed.
Wooyoung merely smiled at the comment, glancing at the elder boy.
"I guess I'll have to be the one that buys it, then."
