Jay, Wendy, and Cain reached the edge of the Spawn Point where Cain's family was killed.
Jay walked to the edge of one of the gaping holes Elle created in the ground and peered over. Faint sounds of pain and crying resonated in varying volumes from it and each of the other openings. Jay lifted both hands to the sky and the ground began to rumble beneath the trio's feet.
Cain hugged Wendy as he witnessed several of his clan returning to the surface from certain death. "Thank you...JayWendy! Thank you!"
Jay cautiously walked to the base of the tree where Cain murdered his brother. "Unfortunately, I cannot revive him, Cain. There's too much damage. He is beyond rep..." he stopped speaking as he noted Cain's excitement spiraling into despair.
"I'm sorry," Jay said sadly.
"I know...nothing you can do." Cain shook his head and turned his attention to his clan. He noted they were cowering in fear of not only Jay and Wendy, but it seemed they were frightened of him as well.
"Why you afraid me? It is me, Cain!"
Wendy put her hand on the boy's shoulder. "They don't recognize you. You look different."
"Oh."
Jay slowly approached the trembling clan. He knelt down attempting to assume a non-threatening appearance. He lowered his head and reached out his hand. "It's okay," he said softly approaching an adult female attempting to protect her young daughter. He offered her his open hand and gestured for her to take it. She nervously accepted the offer and within moments the same kind of transformation that occurred when Jay touched Cain, appeared on the faces of the two females.
"Who are you?" she inquired. Inquisitiveness replaced the look of fear on her face.
Jay smiled and before he could answer, Cain ran to his mother and sister and hugged them with tears in his eyes. "Mama, Abel dead. Bad woman made Cain make him die. I am sorry, mama."
"Not your fault, Cain. Mama knows. It's okay. It's okay." The woman held the boy tightly as he broke down in tears. "Who is them? How do we know to speak this way?" she asked, lifting his face.
"Mama, JayWendy. JayWendy are God. They help us. They save us."
Wendy looked surprised. She replied sharply. "No...no, we are not..."
"It's okay, Wendy. I don't think they would comprehend any of it if you tried to explain it to them right now. This is the only way they can process everything. Give them time. One day they will understand." Jay looked around at the rest of Cain's family. "Cain, I would like to give your gift to the rest of your family, too. Is that okay?"
"Okay."
Jay touched each member of Cain's clan. Within moments, they were all chattering like the awful things in the trees overhead.
Boom! Boom!!! Several earth shaking explosions sent those same birds Jay hated so much bursting from the trees like colorful volcanic eruptions.
Jay and Wendy looked at each other. "Elle!"
They flew off toward the Spawn Point, running as fast as they could through the jungle with Cain's clan beside them. Within moments, the group arrived in the pasture to find Elle attacking the blue tunnel with lightning. Whatever she had been attempting she must have thought was working because Jay witnessed Elle stop and slowly approach the beam. Elle paused to look at Jay and Wendy standing together with Cain's clan almost as if she expected them.
"Well, well. Look's like you got your family, Jay! Just like you always wanted. Really nice. Yeah...Too bad nobody will ever know they existed." Elle pointed up to the sky and started backing toward the tunnel. "When I get back into my body, I am just going to choke the shit out of you and then unplug your fucking machine and give it to the Homeland. No one will ever know what happened to your binary blow up doll, and the subhuman electronic filth you have picked over me."
"Elle!!! Stop! Elle...Lucenda, you fucking Arcturan devil. Stop! Don't do it." Jay rarely used Elle's full name, because she hated it. However, he needed her to pay attention to him for a moment. He walked slowly toward Elle.
Wendy ducked back into the forest; she was going to attempt to flank Elle from the rear while Jay kept her busy.
"Listen to me! You are not stupid. You have to know I am telling you the truth." Jay put his hands out in front of him trying to calm his former fiancé down. "You don't know what trying to enter that beam will do, Elle."
The redhead glared at him. "Right. Like you don't? I am tethered to the Sub-System right? I am just going right back up the tunnel."
"That's not how you came in...You have to.."
"Shut up, you lying asshole! Why couldn't you just stick to the plan Jay? We could have been so good together! I was supposed to be Mother Arcturis. You were my slave, Jay!!! I loved you. I still love you. But...you love her, now!" Elle heard a twig snap. She spun around to see Wendy attempting to sneak up behind her. The Arcturan glared at Wendy and began inching closer to the beam.
"Elle, please, you don't have to do this!" the scientist pleaded. "We can still try to work this out!"
"Fuck you! You did this...you had to go mess everything up, didn't you? You bionic bitch! You ruined everything! Why couldn't you just stay dead like people who die usually do?" Tears streamed down Elle's pretty brown cheeks. She stopped right at the edge of the electric flames. Elle could feel its energy on her skin.
Jay thought about one last trick he could try. He summoned all of his energy and reached out with his mind. "Where are you, Elle? Where? Ah, there you are..."
Elle froze. "How did you do that? Get out of my head, Jay!" She put her hands on each side of her head and closed her eyes.
Jay rerouted his thoughts back through the Sub-System and made an adhoc connection to Elle's mind. He yelled at Wendy, "Go Wendy, go grab her!"
Wendy ran though the tall grass of the meadow toward the confused and disoriented redhead.
Jay had her mind; however, the brilliant girl was just as powerful as he was in this world. She fought his control and as she did, Jay heard the Arcturan's thoughts. Evil thoughts. Thoughts of Wendy dying. "No!" Before he could warn Wendy, who was rapidly approaching Elle, the green-eyed woman shook off Jay's connection. She opened her eyes and her arms to the woman charging her way. Using Wendy's inertia, Elle in one fluid motion, stepped backward and grabbed Wendy by the arm. She flung the scientist right into the beam of energy, falling backwards to the ground away from the blue column.
"NOOOOO!!!" Jay collapsed onto his knees. "No!" he yelled, glaring at Elle with hatred in his eyes. The skies above the Spawn Point swirled, blotting out the sun. "You evil bitch! To think I ever loved you!" he exclaimed tearfully. Lightning crisscrossed the sky.
"I kind of thought since I couldn't go back up that beam, that bitch damn well couldn't either!" Elle sat up and began laughing hysterically. "Oh my, that felt wonderful!" she said as she stood up still snickering at her deception and brushed the grass from her naked buttocks. She stepped back toward the sapphire beam and took a bow. "Thank you, thank you ladies and gentlemen. That is the end of our show. Wendy Bouri is finally dead. Here and on Cenerea!"
Elle's face changed from exuberance to surprise as two hands emerged from the column of energy and grabbed her by the throat.
Wendy's face and head followed. "Wrong you evil witch!" Wendy slowly stepped from the fiery blue pillar and walked Elle backwards. "I don't die easily!"
Geneticus' digital face appeared in the stream of energy. "Jay, I need your assistance. I cannot get the Sub-System to release Elle! However, I have managed to adjust the Sub-System's timing to near real-time between both worlds for the next few moments!"
Wendy shouted. "Jay, go! Get out of here. Go disconnect her. She can't hurt me. But, between you and her, you might hurt all of them!" Wendy nodded toward the humans across the field. "You might destroy this world!"
Dark storm clouds began to form overhead. The ground rumbled. A large crevasse opened, tearing through the middle of the Spawn point in the direction of the waterfall.
"I don't want to leave you with her again!" Jay shouted.
"I am not asking. GO NOW!" Wendy commanded.
Elle struggled ferociously against Wendy's grasp on her neck. She dug her nails into Wendy's hands. It was no use, Wendy did not let go. She began tightening her grip as the realization of what Elle had done to Cain and his family began to darken her heart. Wendy had already seen enough innocent lives destroyed by people like Elle. She was not going to let that happen anymore.
Elle gasped for air, the darkness slowly creeping in. Tripping over an uprooted rock, she began to fall backwards and it sent both women tumbling to the ground. Wendy lost her hold on Elle's neck in the fall. Nevertheless, she landed straddling the naked Elle.
Elle took the opportunity she had been given to try to escape. She turned her body and clawed at the ground, attempting to pull herself from beneath Wendy. She screamed. "Why couldn't you just die??!?"
Balling her now free hands into fists, Wendy brought them down one at a time onto Elle's face over and over sending bloody streaks splashing onto the yellow flowers surrounding them. Lightning spread over the blackened skies in response to Elle's pain and Wendy's anger. Several bolts made contact with the ground nearby but all to no avail.
Cain and his family backed further into the jungle in search of safety. They watched as their Gods battled in the fields of paradise. They prayed for JayWendy's victory over Lucenda fucking Arcturan devil.
Jay raced for the beam as lightning arced around him. The ground rumbled. Dirt, flowers, and grass blew into the air as he dodged several large rocks ejecting skyward from the ground, several nearly ending his path to success. Finally, Jay's luck ran out, a huge boulder exploded from the earth beneath his feet, launching him high into the air. Jay felt like a rag doll thrown by an angry child. He hit the ground...hard. For all of his newly discovered power, he still felt pain. Jay stood. His left ankle was injured badly, possibly broken. No matter, he had to get to the tunnel.
Wendy pinned Elle's hands to the ground. Her breath was heavy and her strength was draining.
Elle responded to the break in activity by bringing her knee up into Wendy's back. It might as well have been a brick wall. Nevertheless, she did take Wendy slightly off balance, almost able to throw her. "One more should do..." she thought.
"It's over! Stop, Elle!" Wendy exclaimed as she watched Jay jump into the beam and disappear.
Jay woke and quickly disconnected his neural connection from the stasis pod. He knew time was running short. Every second was minutes there. Jay grabbed Elle's body still attached to the Sub-System neural connector and placed her in the stasis pod. "Ready, G!"
Geneticus' face appeared once more in the blue energy column. "Wendy, come to me! Run!"
Wendy and Elle looked at each other. "What?" both women exclaimed as they realized what Geneticus had planned.
Elle attempted to push Wendy backwards in a final attempt to escape. Wendy shoved the redhead to the ground once more and planted one last fist in Elle's face for good measure. Wendy released the bloody-faced Arcturan to run for the beam.
Her fight still far from over, Elle tripped Wendy with her feet sending her opponent crashing down face first into the field. She stood, stepped on Wendy's back, and made a mad dash toward the column of energy.
Wendy angrily spat the dirt from her mouth and leapt from the ground in hot pursuit. She could see Elle was going to make it before her if she did not do something drastic...so she did. Using every ounce of energy she could muster Wendy dove, hurtling herself at the fleeing green-eyed devil. Elle was only a meter before her and only meters to the beam. Both women tumbled into the blue fiery tunnel...
