~Chapter Eight~
(Warning: cursing)
Jesse, Wait!" Cried Axel. "Don't leave me-"
Jesse disappeared through the portal.
"...here..."
Axel slumped to the ground, crossing his arms.
"A...Axel?" Asked Lukas, already starting to come to.
"What?" Growled Axel.
"...What do you... What do you think about me, Axel?" Lukas asked, trembling.
Axel felt his face get hot with guilt.
"I... I..... You're um... Great... Lukas..."
Stuttered Axel, looking uncomfortable.
Lukas squeezed his eyes shut, his breathing fast and shallow.
"Are you.... Are you sure that you like me?" Mumbled Lukas.
"...of course...." Sighed Axel. "After all... We used to be best friends..."
Axel remembered when He and Lukas did everything together... How they were the best of friends...
But that all changed when Middle school started.
After that- Axel had started bullying Lukas, hurting him physically and emotionally.
When high school rolled around, he lessened up on Lukas, but only because Jesse had threatened to murder Axel in his sleep.
When the order went on their adventures- Axel couldn't help himself to torture the little blond guy.
And now he had gone overboard.
"But... But I remember... When you punched me... And when you..." Lukas's eyes snapped open, hatred charging his gaze.
"You... You were the one who blew me into the sky..." Muttered Lukas. "You did this to me..."
"Lukas, it's not like that- it's... It's..." Axel panicked under Lukas's stone cold gaze. "It's... My fault... All of it... And you could've died..."
"Yeah I could've died!" Spat Lukas, the pool of blood beneath him growing bigger, "you shot me into the freaking sky! I told you not to rush me, and now I can... I.. Can... Barely move..."
Lukas groaned, filling Axel with even more guilt.
"I didn't mean it, Lukas!" Cried Axel, unable to take it. "I didn't mean to hurt you!"
Lukas stared at Axel, tears gathering in his faded blue eyes.
"Sure, Axel..." Sighed Lukas, wiping his hand on the cut of his wing. "But just remember that I had hope before somebody shot me into the sky. I. Had. Hope. Hope that I would be able to fly..."
Silence.
More strangled moaning from Lukas, followed by stifled sobs from Axel.
"YOU COMPLETE AND TOTAL ASSHOLE!" Spat Lukas, making Axel jump. "YOU HAVE ALWAYS HATED ME! YOU DID THIS TO ME! AND WE USED TO BE BEST FRIENDS! HOW COULD YOU?!... THIS FUCKING HURTS..."
Axel had tears streaming down his face, but he his them, not wanting Lukas to see.
"Really, Lukas..." Croaked Axel. "I'm sorry."
Silence.
"Sorry didn't get you to stop beating me up in 7th grade year. Or any other time, for that matter...." Snarled Lukas, his wing sticking up in awkward angles. "And sorry doesn't keep me from dying."
Suddenly, the portal shimmered.
"Jesse?" Asked Lukas, looking extremely hurt.
A winged person stepped through.
Then another.
And another.
That wasn't Jesse.
"Grab them." Growled one of the guards, their yellow wings making him hover.
Lukas was grabbed first, and he screamed, causing Axel to scream.
Two guards took Axel, who struggled, and yelled.
"Don't worry..." Purred the man with the yellow wings. "Your wives are completely safe."
Lukas lost it at the mention of Jesse.
He thrashed around in the arms of the guards, until an ear-splitting crack sounded in the air, and Lukas passed out.
"YOU WONT GET AWAY WITH THIS!" Snarled Axel. "YOU WILL NOT HURT OUR FAMILIES!"
A woman with white wings took a cloth and pressed it to Axel's nose, making him loose consciousness.
The man with yellow wings smiled.
"And I thought you two would put up more of a fight..." He sighed. "Oh, well... See you two when you wake up." He glanced at Lukas.
"If you wake up, that is."
...
"Where do you think it is?" Asked Petra, already to her feet after the breath-taking fall.
Olivia and Jesse groaned, trying desperately to stand up without dying.
"And that is why I preferred to not have children." Huffed Petra, resting her sword on her shoulder.
"Whatever, Petra..." Sighed Olivia, making it to her feet. "Just drop it."
"Just saying...." Sang Petra. "That I'm technically younger and stronger than you two."
"Shut up, you bitch." Jesse smiled playfully.
Olivia looked up at the sky, seeing a white laboratory where the sky city used to be.
"Do... Do you think that's where they are?" Asked Olivia, wonderingly.
"Probably..." Huffed Petra, angrily. "By how the hell are we supposed to get up there?!"
"I think I might have a way." Purred a voice.
The girls whipped their heads around, only to find Aiden.
"Get them." Growled Aiden.
Guards rushed forward, taking Olivia, Petra, and Jesse.
"AIDEN!" Screeched Jesse, the guards using their wings to lift her and her friends in the air. "AIDEN YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING PERVERT LET ME AND MY FRIENDS GO PR I SWEAR TO GOD ILL-"
"TAKE THEM TO THE ISLAND!" Can manses Aiden, his voice sounding strained.
They continued to lift Jesse, Olivia, and Petra into the air- all of the girls flailing around and screaming until the ground below was just a blur.
Then it was a speck.
And then it disappeared completely.
They reached the top, seeing Jesse's children chained up.
Ella screamed, the gag in her mouth making her cries for help muffled and useless.
Mia stayed silent, probably knowing that it was useless to resist.
Jesse's eyes rested on Ella's wings, and tears gathered in her eyes.
"What did the do to you?!" Asked Jesse, sounding terrified.
Suddenly, everyone heard screaming.
"I TOLD YOU TO MAKE HIM SLEEP LONGER!"
"NO, YOU DIDNT!"
"SHUT UP, BOTH OF YOU!"
"LUKAS!" Yelled Axel, his booming voice telling who it was. "LUKAS WAKE UP!"
They guys were carried up by guards, being dropped on the island as well.
Axel got up, but Lukas stayed where they had dropped him.
The sky was full of clouds, and thunder had started to rumble.
Jesse looked at a tall oak tree, seeing the platform Aiden had built- where Jesse had knocked him off the edge.
"Care to settle this, Jesse?" Asked Aiden, rain starting to fall down.
Jesse gritted her teeth.
She drew her sword, as did the others.
"You can mess with me-" growled Jesse. "You can break me... You can even try to kill me..."
She readied her sword.
"But you can NEVER HURT MY FRIENDS OR FAMILY."
Aiden smiled.
"Well id like to follow that rule, but unfortunately, my heart was crushed by a certain pair of people. And you hurt my family- why shouldn't I hurt you?"
Jesse glared at him.
Suddenly, Petra screamed her battle cry- the one she used when she was in the New Order.
"AHHHHHHHH!" Yelled Petra, slicing through the air.
It exploded into chaos, the clanking of swords in the pouring rain- the screams of people as they got hit.
It seemed to go on forever- the people with elemental powers fighting each other, and the New Order fighting Aiden and his non-elemental guards.
A huge crash of lightning sounded, making everyone's ears ring.
Everybody was soaking wet from the freezing rain. It came in sheets, pelting everyone and washing blood into the grass.
Axel knocked a guard over the edge, a bloody gash in their wings.
They would die.
Petra did the same, except with two guards- both of them not having wings. They would die, too.
Somehow, the other guards faded- either wounded or knocked over the edge- and only Aiden and Nick were left.
Nick approached Mia, raising his sword.
Jesse ran in front of his blade, intending to block his hit.
But she did more than that.
She returned the hit on accident, stabbing him in the chest.
He stood shocked for a moment, Jesse staring shocked at the blade embedded in his chest.
She slowly pulled it out, a huge red stain growing under Nick's shirt.
He fell to the ground, without a word.
Jesse screamed, looking at her bloody blade.
She had known that people would be killed...
But she didn't want to kill Aiden's son...
"NICK!" Yelled Aiden, sounding pleading for a second.
Then, he glared at Jesse.
Everyone else stood frozen.
"You... You bitch..."
Then- out of the blue-
(Okay so here is where it's going to get complicated. Just imagine a movie going in slo mo. Go that? Okay- now continue.)
Aiden rushed at Jesse, raising his sword.
He brought the sword down to her stomach-
When a rush of white speckled wings jumped in front of Jesse, sending blood splashing on to her face as Aiden ripped the blade upwards.
Aiden paused, looking at the girl.
Jesse hadn't been hit- in fact- it was a girl who looked so much like Myah- it was scary.
The girl looked down at the blade lodged in her stomach, that was barely sticking out the other side.
Tears have gathered in her eyes, and Aiden stood shocked.
He pulled the blade from the girl, causing her to fall to the ground.
Aiden dropped to his knees next to her- guilt eating away at him.
"Priscilla..." He croaked, looking at the untreatable stab wound in his daughter's stomach. She forced a smile. "I'm so sorry..."
"Just promise me something..." Whispered Priscilla.
Aiden nodded, the others not knowing how to attack.
"Promise me that you won't hurt Jesse and her friends... Or her family... Anymore... I've hated seeing you obsess over her... Do this- for me."
Her gaze became vacant, and Aiden stood up, turning the blade over in his hands.
The blood of his own daughter...
He had killed his daughter trying to kill the woman he loved.
It felt like a dream-
But it wasn't.
It was a nightmare.
"It never had to be this way, Aiden..." Sighed Petra, her battle catching up with her.
"Yeah..." Huffed Axel. "All you wanted was more power."
"You didn't get it- and you lost your family in the process." Muttered Olivia.
It was true.
Aiden had lost his family- Myah getting killed, Nick being killed, and Priscilla being killed by his own hands.
Aiden felt anger rising up inside him.
Jesse had taken everything from him.
And now-
He would take something from her.
He saw the trembling body of Lukas, yanking him by his hands to get up.
"LET HIM GO!" Snarled Jesse.
They all raised their weapons, and Aiden smirked.
Lukas was fully aware of what was going on, clawing uselessly at Aiden's hands that were around his throat.
"If you step any closer..." Growled Aiden, Lukas gasping for air he couldn't get. "I'll step over the edge- and Blondie's going with me."
Nobody dared to move, but they had to do something- or Lukas would die from asphyxiation. (Is that what it's called?)
"This is taking too long." Sighed Aiden, tears starting to mix with the rain streaming down his face.
And with that, he stepped a little too close to the edge- sending Lukas plummeting to the earth below with him.
(This isn't the end)
