Chapter 9

I looked into the Tiger Fur's eyes and then lent forward to press my skull against the barrel.

"Papa, don't." The female Cat Fur said, though quietly. It shook the Tiger Fur from his smug bloodlust to look at her angrily.

"He's seen our faces, and our species. Hell he hasn't even spoken to us even a little, so it seems logical to kill him and leave his body in some ditch for his 'friends' to find." He said and I grit my teeth and dug my fingers into the metal of the chair, watching angrily as he pointed the gun at my head again. Then something bright interrupted my eyesight, a flashlight, I wasn't expecting her to just go and shine a light in my face like that. Ouch!

"Look at his face," The Cat Fur said softly, and then I felt something drag through the straps of my vest, and then the center of my shirt. "Look at his body. Do you really think this is the kind of person to fight for that corrupt King without having a grudge over the guy?"

I couldn't see, or speak. Nor could I move, so I was completely helpless as she stripped me of my cloak, vest, and shirt. There was a long silence and then the light turned off. I blinked my eyes a couple times to get them to adjust again. Only to see the male Tiger Fur with grit teeth and a wired jaw. The Cat Fur was standing next to him with her hand on his shoulder.

"Look at him," She said and I refused to let my vision wander for fear of showing weakness. I did not want to think about the reason why I had all of the scars, but I also didn't want my eyes to wander from them and show weakness.

The Tiger Fur had other ideas than simply letting me continue staring at him. He got up from his chair and growled, taking in all of the bite marks, claw marks, and lashes that I had visibly on the front of my body. He lifted my head up with a single claw out to keep me from resisting and hummed with interest.

Touching the scars lining the font half of my throat was the final straw. I recoiled and went to bite him, yeah its a feral and animistic thing to do, especially for a human, but I was in a figurative corner, showing things that I wanted forgotten.

The Tiger Fur pulled his hand away sharply and smiled, confusing me. Why would he be smiling? What reason did he have to smile now of all times? Did he know about something that I didn't?

"It seems you are not entirely human, or at least you won't be for much longer," He said and then sat back down in the chair putting the pistol back into a holster I hadn't seen on his outer thigh. I was a little on edge, but strangely calmer than I should've been.

"You know what?" The Tiger Fur suddenly grabbed the bag and stood up. "I think that I'll just take you with me." He said and suddenly the female Cat Fur was there with a bat, and the next thing I saw was darkness.

------------------------------

I woke up tied to another chair, in a dark room, but this time there was no one in the room with me. There was a blinking red dot in two opposite corners of the ceiling, or at least near the ceiling. I guessed that they were cameras, but since there were no sources of light in the room I couldn't see anything. Suddenly the room, and my eyes were bathed in white, the room lit up so suddenly and so brightly that it blinded me temporarily.

"It seems that subject one is rather sensitive to light," a voice surrounded the room.

No shit, I just woke up and you just tossed a flash grenade in front of my face. I blinked my eyes a few times trying to look around but the act was pretty pointless because I couldn't see anything. I clenched my hands so tightly that I could feel my knuckle bones rubbing on the skin of my hand.

"The subject seems to be showing restrained aggression," the voice came again, clearly female, and my vision was starting to clear.

There was a large mirror in front of me, probably one-way with whoever that was blasting my senses on the other side. I looked at the mirror for a while, trying to see a way through it, and then something changed, and it felt like my vision split, and I could see through the wall suddenly, but it didn't last long enough for me to catch what was behind it.

I recoiled in shock and the split vision faded, causing me a slight headache. Only to find myself looking at myself in the reflective surface again. This time I actually looked at my reflection.

"Heart levels and activity has decreased to a non-threatening level, releasing restraints now."

I immediately got off of the chair, and went to the mirror not caring for whoever was behind it. There was something attached to my face, how did I not notice before? I turned my head trying to see the back of it, but my vision only went as far as normal eyesight. It didn't seem to catch peripheral vision, at least not at the moment.

I didn't know what would happen later with this thing attached to my face but it looked like a sort of virtual visor. There was a silver metal band over the entire right side of my face, going from the cheek bone, up around my eye, and a little past my eye-brow. It traveled from there horizontally across the back of my head. There were small sections under my jaw and along my throat but those were irrelevant at the moment.

I brushed the area and traced the metal with my hand until I felt flesh, but it didn't stop until it reached the temple of the opposite side. Extending a little up and down the back of my head in a rectangular shape, but it seemed my flesh was trying to regrow over the effected areas. I touched the area and drew my hand away from pain.

"Subjects head implants are working normally. The areas in the brain associated with sight and hearing had to be manually accessed to connect the implants. There have been no obvious complications, and the equipment seems to be working just fine.

"Subject has taken a slight appearance change as well. The ears seem to be dissappearing, and reforming at the top of the skull in a triangular fashion, as found in common Fur species. Spots of fur have started appearing in random places along the arms, legs, and along the entire length of the spine. This caused the facial and mid-shoulder implants to become incomplete and modifications will be needed."

I stepped back in disbelief, no, this was impossible. I looked at the places that he mentioned and then I looked at my nails to see that they were seemingly disappearing as well, and when I touched the tips of my fingers they looked deformed almost as if they were trying to become mutated claw-like fingers.

I ran my tongue over my teeth to see if the inside of my mouth was changing as well, and it felt like my molars were lower than they had been before, in fact all of my teeth seemed to be falling out. I opened my mouth and touched my gums noticing a slight, sharp bulge there something that certainly was not normal. In fact non of this should be happening, it was impossible. I thought back to what the Tiger Fur said, and then realized that if human scientists had figured out a way to change the DNA of humans and mix them with animals to creature the Furs. Then it was certainly possible for a Fur to turn a human into one of them...right?

I looked at my arms again and noticed that the fur growing there was a dark red color, not black, white, or golden like the wolves that had bitten and scratched me in the first place. Why was that?

If they bit me then shouldn't that mean that the fur growing all over my would be one of the three colors and not red? Unless the invading DNA from the Furs that bit me was mutating my human DNA and causing the fur growing on me to change to a different color, a color that fit me best. But that still didn't seem to make sense. Maybe it was radiation, or it was related to the other changes that I was noticing on my body.

I pulled up my sleeves and checked them again, and I noticed that there were less bit mark dots on my arm than there was before. I shook my head with disbelief and lifted up my shirt. There was less there too, I checked my legs and found that they had been the least effected by these changes so far. Still the same amount of scars on them as I think I had before, but still growing fur all over.

I breathed in relief at that and then I pat myself down. Looking for any extra limbs or appendages besides what seemed to be changing visibly. I pat down the back of my pants and felt that I had no tail developing as of yet, and this made me let out another breath of relief. I stopped checking for differences and sat down against the back wall of the room.

The voice on the intercom had stopped at least, and I was grateful for that, but after a little while of nothing happening I decided to test out my new implant. I found out that it acted like an eye, but when I went to touch it, my hand went through some type of hologram and my eyesight half blurred out every time my finger passed through.

A door suddenly opened and I looked at the one way mirror with my new vision, to see that four things were entering the room. I recognized a few figures: there was the Tiger Fur from before, then there was a human man in a lab coat, a human woman in a suit, probably some sort of thing with government. The thing next to her looked female, but I didn't exactly know what it was. It looked like a humanoid figure with a cobras head. The next figure was the Cat Fur that had knocked me out.

I then realized that I just saw through the wall again, and without thinking about wanting to do it either. This time my vision didn't change and I saw as the female Cobra person, I remembered that her species was named 'Scales'.

The scientists stared talking and then he pointed something at the mirror and the others were fixed on it for some reason. The scientist was probably showing them something, but after a second of watching the screen they all looked awed, and slightly horrified. Then all of their eyes snapped down to look at me and I took a step back, I did not like that look.

They all turned back to the scientist and when the scientist was done they all started to speak at once, mainly the male Tiger Fur and the human woman. The Scale was silent as she continued to stare at me, it got to the point of creepiness, and I was shifting against the wall with nervousness. Then pain split across the right side of my face and I grit my teeth and gripped the side of my face. My skin seemed to be molding itself around the metal implant that they had installed into my face, and I could feel it so I assumed the change was pretty visible too.

I shook my head trying to stay awake as the pain increased. It felt like the metal was burning to my face. I was able to go for another few minutes before the pain forced my mind to submit and I blacked out.

-------------------------------------

When I woke up again I noticed that I was in a completely different environment. I was now in a room and on a bed. It was strange. There were still cameras in the room but I was in a bed now. Why? I sat up and then I realized what had happened to me, the pain in my head, it was gone now and now that I thought about it, so was that burning pain I'd felt since being bitten so many times.

I touched the side of my head to see that the metal had somehow infused with my flesh and was seemingly a part of it. My ear was now pretty non-existent there either. I touched the other side of my head and found that there was no ear there either. I brought my hands up to the top of my head and found them there, triangles that were made of furry cartilage, my ears.

No, nononono, this was not happening to me.

I shot up from my bed going to the bathroom before looking in the mirror at my new body, I was surprised that I didn't notice it before. I had a snout, or was it called a muzzle? Either way, there was this thing sticking out from the middle of my face and I didn't know what to make of it.

My hands were now covered in dark red fur, my only visible eye was a blood red color now. I guessed that it had something to do with with my new fur, but that didn't mean I liked it. My hands had claws on the tips of my fingers, and toes, didn't know why that was a thing, but now I understood why I rarely saw Furs wearing shoes. They probably weren't comfortable as their own padded, fur covered feet. I wondered if wearing socks would be considered a sort of bind now, like they did to the occasional human in the form of straight jackets in the past.

I turned to my side and saw a one and a half foot dark red tail with strands and spots of black here and there. If I didn't see everything else, I think I might've fainted, but I regained my composure and opened my mouth. Of course, a mouthful of flesh shredding teeth, hopefully those don't make eating Mac n' Cheese hard. A sound suddenly made my right ear turn ninety degrees so that it was facing the door, I was shocked once again. The clarity I could hear noise and easily pinpoint its direction was astounding.

There was some cursing and talking, and I went to the door and stepped through it. A Snow Leopard Fur was in my room talking frantically into her radio for some reason. Then she looked up and saw me standing there looking confused as hell. Her face turned into that of shock, then confusion, and then she spoke into her radio again.

"I apologize, everyone please go back to your previous duties," she paused for a second, "Can someone get the General to come into the, uh, the room now. He's awake."

She didn't seem to be going for the pistol that was at her waist, so I just stood there, and she stared at me in disbelief, shock, and probably a tone of other things that I couldn't catch in her eyes in time before the same Tiger Fur that had questioned me, or well, walked to me in the past.

"What is this about Marie? I thought I said to--" the Tiger Fur saw me and his mouth slightly opened from shock. The Snow Leopard, Marie, walked over to him quickly and they started to talk in hushed voices, or at least I think they were trying to, but I could hear every word they were saying.

"Sir, didn't they say he supposed to be asleep for a couple more days?" Marie said and the Tiger Fur nodded.

"Yes, but that was just a mere estimate. I certainly wasn't expecting him to wake up this soon, and already fully transformed." The General said and I frowned before looking around, picking up one of my old human shoes from off of the floor. It was a little surprising that they were still here, I thought that they would've been thrown away or something.

I meant to lightly throw it so that it would hit the head of the General, but instead it slapped the wall above them and caused a spider-web like fracture in the drywall. Causing Marie to grab her gun, and aim at me quickly, with her finger on the trigger. I was shocked, that was supposed to be a light throw, a toss really, and when were shoes strong enough to cause that much damage to a wall?

"Calm down Marie," The General said and I moved to glare at them as she lowered her gun, "He didn't mean us harm. It seems as though his hearing is better now than when he was a human. Though it is my mistake for assuming. It makes sense for a Fur to recover so quickly, even if they were merely becoming a Fur."

"Are you able to talk now?" He asked and I opened my mouth and tried say that he was an ass, but all that came out were what I discerned to be gasps and gags more so than discernible words. "I'll take that as a no then."

I wanted to punch something, this was not how I expected being turned into an evolved species would go, shouldn't it have regenerated everything? I mean I grew a tail, and my hands gained an extra inch or two due to the tips of my fingers being tipped with claws now. So shouldn't that have also regenerated my voice, and my eye? Or is it because those had already healed before the process took place and the mutations had ignored those areas?

I gripped the back of my fur covered head and turned around internally growling in frustration due to my predicament. My voice was fried, meaning that I couldn't communicate normally with others. My equipment was gone, meaning I had no way to defend myself besides my new claws, teeth, and good ol' fists.

Though I didn't want to take the chance of fighting up close and personal in this new body of mine. But I also didn't want to go back to the King. How long has it been? A month? Months? If that was the case would my team be back, if they were even taking this mission seriously. I had a feeling that they were.

Then there was the problem of these people. I didn't want to stay with them, but I didn't want to go back to the Empire and get captured by the King or a set of guards and tortured because they would see me as either a liar, a traitor, or someone they could try to overpower.

I turned around to look at the General and Marie, to see that they seemed to be waiting patiently for me to pay attention to them again. The General noticed and studied me.

"You look and smell like a Wolf, but your fur is totally off color scheme. It makes you look more like a Fox than a Wolf," He said and I blankly looked at him, I already knew that dumbass. "Do you know why?"

It took a second to realize that he was talking to us both and we both shook our heads, seemingly at the same time. I didn't know at all how I turned out to be a red Wolf Fur with a Blood-red eye as well as enhanced strength, hearing, and probably a few other things that I would more than likely discover later.

"Do you want to stay with us to learn about your new body and what it could do? What you could do?" He asked, and seemed to leave out the self serving part of that two part question with another question. For us, What you could do for us. Omitting that small detail that they just want to see the new me as well.

I wanted to puke, but I nodded in response, hopefully this would be a good way to get my weapons back and then leave this place to meet up with my fellow soldiers. Sure I didn't want to serve or protect the Lion King of the Eastern Kingdom, nor did I want to deal with border guards. But I didn't really want to stay here either at the moment, I just didn't have a place that I could call home just yet. Maybe they could help me along the way, and with this new body.

"Good, I'm sure that you'll learn a lot about yourself in these next few weeks," The General said before he turned and walked out of the room with Marie not far behind. I turned around, looked out the window once more. Thinking about what it was going to be out there now that I no longer had to hide in plain sight, and then I turned and followed them out of the room.

I also am wondering what this'll do for me, I thought as I followed the two to wherever they were going to first.
