I was the second to last one to leave the shooting range, the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur was the last one to finish, I went to open the weapons storage things, but it didn't seem to like my bracelet. I grabbed my targets from where I put them down, and followed the other Furs to what seemed to be an armory.

There was pictures of Fur genders on the front doors of the armory, and I went into the one that looked to be male, as the Fur on the front was wearing a suit and tie. I choose a locker, swiped my bracelet in-front of it, and after hearing a small chirp. The light went green before the locker just popped open for me. I put my guns inside, closed it, and grabbed my targets once again from where I put them down on the bench. Then I went through the scanner out of the building and headed to the commanders office, where the others were sure to be waiting.

When I got there the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur was walking up to the commander and giving him her targets. They both were spot on, even the secondary weapons area of effect was in the ring to the center with a few stray shots here and there. I walked up and handed my targets to him, he made us wait there for a second as he sorted them and counted. Then he started to point.

"Thirty-six shots missed, Three-hundred Sixty push ups for you to do tonight" it was directed at the Red tipped Husky Fur.

"Thirty-four shots missed, Three hundred Forty push ups for you tonight" directed towards the Black tipped Husky. Then he moved to the female Panther Fur.

"Fifteen shots missed"

He looked at me and the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur, "none missed, but I'm still making you do fifty push ups tonight"

"What?!" the two husky Furs were in outrage, the red tipped one stepped forwards an pointed at me, "are you saying that the human didn't miss a single shot today?!" Really it was screeching, and coming from an animal that doesn't screech normally, it was very high pitched, and very obnoxious, and I winced from the auditory pain. It seemed to hurt my ears a lot more than it had before. What changed?

I pushed the thought aside and watched as the commander coolly stepped out of his chair and moved to Red tipped tail's side, making him look like a freightened pup in the headlights of a car.

"Are you questioning my authority?" he growled

"N-no sir, I just d-don't see how the human could've hit every shot, especially when it's such a weak creature" the red tipped husky Fur said and

"That sounds to me like you're questioning my authority over this matter" the commander said "did you not notice that I gave them both fifty push ups to do anyways?"

"I-I did sir, but--" the commander grabbed the red-tipped Husky's snout with his hand and pushed him into the wall, making the husky yelp from pain and slight fear.

"Okay then, since you insist" the commander said "you and your brother are going to be doing extra work from now on until I say you are done. That means extra running, extra exercises, extra chores around base, extra anything that I or others can think of, and I hope that you know your place by the time you're let off, otherwise It'll stay that way for the rest of our time together. Got it?"

The Red tipped husky Fur nodded and looked to the floor when the commander let him go and returned to his seat.

"Now, we have a long day tomorrow, so do your push ups, shower, and get to bed" the commander said and everyone turned to leave. The Husky Furs actually, literally rushed out of the door and went in the opposite direction of our cabins and shower area. I was about to yell out to them to say where they think they were going, but then I remembered. I don't have a voice anymore, and it didn't matter anyways as I realized I didn't really care if they got themselves into more trouble for what or where they were going to.

I let the female Furs stay in front of me the entire way to our cabin, thinking about what reason, and who the commander could've been meeting in that dark corner of the shooting range building. I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings, so I didn't know that the two female Furs had stopped and were looking back at me until I ran into them. I stumbled over their tails and ran into both of them, my arms spreading out instinctively to try and catch myself on whatever was around, but instead I just brought them down with me as I crashed to the ground.

I used my hands to prop myself up and saw them both underneath me with wide eyes, and open mouths from shock. I quickly stood to my feet and tried to banish away the thoughts about how soft their fur felt in my hands, and the way they both looked like they did, on the ground. I ran into the bed-frame of the nearest bed closest to the door and recoiled from the sudden pain flashing across my face.

I lent on the ladders to rub my face, and then I moved to the back of the room and started doing my fifty push ups. The two female Furs walked in, looking at me, and then looking away from me just as quick and then they also started to do their push ups. I fished mine well before them and quickly rushed into the bathroom to take a shower.

Once I got out of the bathroom the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur was standing there next to the female Panther Fur, and they both were blocking my way to my bed.

"You are not going to speak about what happened back there human, or we will rip off your head" the Wolf Fur said with hushed growling and I nodded, and then pointed to the two of them and made a silence motion as well.

"Yes, we will stay quiet about this as well" the Panther Fur said and they let me pass. I quickly got dressed in tomorrow's clothes and climbed the ladder to my bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow I was out, seeing the welcoming darkness of sleep.

Over the next couple of days I learned their names, not because of asking, but because of conversation and partial eavesdropping on other Fur's conversations about all of us. The Red tipped tail Husky Fur is Blaze, and his brother, with the Black tipped tail, is Blake, they apparently called themselves the Fenrir Twins, as they claimed to cause chaos wherever they went.

The female Panther Fur's name is Lilith, and the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur's name is Amethyst. I was still thinking about what name I wanted to give them, I didn't feel like a 'Daniel' anymore. I didn't want that name anymore, as it didn't feel like a match for me anymore, I wanted something that matched better to my life. I didn't really want it to be a bright themed name, so I went with the opposite, and I immediately thought of three names I always found to be pretty cool: Shane, Shade, and Umbra.

Shane and Shade both seemed like they might be used too much now that I think of it, so I guess that left Umbra, and it didn't seem like a name that was used too often. It was decided then, if they wanted to know my name, it would be Umbra, no last name, no middle name, just Umbra.

At the end of the week we were all in the commanders office with paper and pens in each of our hands.

"Now I am pretty sure you know what is happening right now, and if you aren't I will clear it out for you" the commander said and motioned to our hands, "by now you should well know each others names, so I want you to write them down going from left to right and then give me the paper after you are done"

The others looked at the papers in their hands and then at everyone else before turning around and writing on the wall, I wrote all of the names where I stood, deciding to write with the paper on my leg instead of the wall, and I was the first to give the commander my paper. He read through the list and nodded with approval, and then the others gave them their papers and after reading them all he looked at everyone as we stood at attention in a line in front of him.

"Good" he said after a little while of silence, "now I will be nice and not hold the fact that the rest of you don't know one person on your teams name despite him knowing all of yours, and I will tell you, since he has and cannot himself."

"Thank you sir" Lilith said and I looked at her with interest, why would she be interested in me at all, I also noticed that Amethyst's eyes also were focused on me, even though her head was facing forwards. They both snapped their attention back to the commander as he began to peak again.

"The human here, is Daniel--" I stepped forwards shaking my head, I did not want that name anymore so I would tell them myself.

"What? That is your name, according to the files" the commander said and I rolled my eyes and ripped my file to shreds before rearranging the pieces to form my new name, Umbra.

"Okay then, Umbra, I'll have your file remade and edited, do you have any last name or middle name to go with this new one?" the commander said and I shook my head no, and moved back to the line.

"Sir, why is the human allowed to alter his file and change his name, but we can't so much as get away with a little rough-housing?" Blaze said speaking out of turn, and I kept in my smirk as the commander walked up to him and bent down a little to get in his face.

"Because this human had been through worse things in this past month than all of you in your lifetimes so far" the commander said and when he looked at me there was a slight sign of apology in his eyes. I steeled his gaze, hardened my eyes, and looked away. There is no way he changed that much over such a small period of time.

"Now that everything has been cleared up, I have some news for you before dismissal" he said and we all looked at him with interest, "you have all been surpassing the other soldiers as expected, and instead of having your first mission in two more weeks, I am giving it to you now." He handed us all black files with a red-eyed wolf insignia on the front, and once open it showed something that I didn't think would happen, ever.

It was a picture of the third king of the Fur kingdom, and I looked at the information about it before realizing that I was gripping the file so tightly that the edges were crumpling.

"No we are not assassinating the King, but rather we are trying to get past the imperial guard, the staff, and his personal guard to land a hit on him in a lethal spot without being detected" the commander was looking at me and I closed the file and tossed it back onto his desk, I've seen all I wanted to.

"So this is a test, we are being tested as an elite unit against elite soldiers as a test" Lilith said and the commander nodded causing the other Furs to grin.

"What happens if we pass and manage to get a killing shot on the King?" Blake asked and the commander smiled.

"Lets hope you aren't able to because that means that we'll be replacing the King's personal guard, and his previous guard will be punished, severely, for losing to a group of five" the commander said and gave everyone a black device that I'm guessing was supposed to fit comfortably in Fur ears, and for me, he gave me two things, a earphone, and a thin black circle.

"Since you are unable to speak like the rest of your team you will have to use this." He said and I took it and looked at it curiously, "one click is to check in, two is for a room cleared, three is for a hostile count, click it three times and then again for however many hostiles there are, and if there are any friendlies, then hold it a second for however many friendlies there are. Lastly, hold it continuously for five seconds without pressing it three times beforehand to tell us that you are in danger, and we'll assess how to proceed."

I looked at him, nodded, and then slipped the circle into my pocket, the others were looking at me with interest, even the Fenrir twins seemed interested. It didn't last long as the commander dismissed us to do whatever we wanted until tomorrow, where we were scheduled to wake up at four hundred hours and be at the flight deck at five hundred hours.
