Chapter 3

It was seven minutes after the wake-up call that they joined us outside and the commander looked at his watch and hummed in disapproval.

"Seven minutes is much too long to take getting ready if you were being attacked" he said and then turned and walked off with us all following him "seven extra additions to everything that we do today: miles, weights, exercises, et cetra." This caused the two husky Furs to groan and the female Panther Fur to growl in annoyance.

"Do you have anything to say about this?" the commander looked at the two huskies and they shook their head, then he looked at the female Panther Fur, the Purple and Black Wolf Fur, and then at me and seeing the three of us expressionless, and indifferent he smirked a little and then walked on. "Don't fall behind" was all the warning that he gave us before his walk turned into a light jog, and we all rushed after him, matching his pace.

At the end of the jog I was barely able to feel my legs, and I couldn't seem to get enough air into my lungs. I bend down, hands on my knees, and strained to breathe.

"Aw look at that, the little human is having a hard time with a little running" the Black tipped husky said and I glared at him and stood up straight.

I stuck my middle finger out at him and turned to face his shocked and humiliated face, but he regained his composure and stalked up to me with tight fists.

"Oh you little--" he didn't get to finish the sentence because the commanders elbow suddenly came out of nowhere and rammed into his throat.

"I'm sorry were you trying to fight your team mate?" he said slightly amused "I don't think you want to go into the water room do you?" At that the angry expression that the huskies had vanished, replaced by an unknown fear that I didn't understand. What was bad about a water room, sprinklers?

"Don't you think that you'd be escaping something similar either human" the commander said "just because he's mouthing off to you doesn't give you a reason to provoke him and give him a reason to try and kill you"

I didn't look at him when he spoke to me, so he came around me to my front and grabbed my jaw to make me look at him. His claws bit into my skin, and I'm pretty sure that they punctured underneath as well, but the everlasting pain of my other injuries was much, much worse compared to a few scratches.

"Understood?" he growled and I looked him in the eye and nodded, glaring.

"Good. Now the day isn't over yet, and I hope you're not hungry because we're going to be out here until the last ten minutes of lunch time" he said, "if you do well maybe I'll think about letting you off early for lunch time." Then he decided that it was a good time to start running again, and we all hurried after him as he shot off.

------------------

Come lunch time we were all sweaty and tired, and when we got to the cafeteria there was already a long ass line of Furs waiting to get their food. I stepped into the line behind a Blue striped Grey Wolf Fur and he looked back at me and bared his teeth. The other Furs ahead of me let other Furs in, and I practically didn't move forwards in the line at all. It took a half hour for me to even get to the five up front spot, and I saw a Black and Red colored Fox Fur lean over the counter and whisper something in the server's ear, who was a White Lynx Fur mixed with something else, Leopard maybe.

They looked at me directly, snarled and moved to the back to grab something. Great, guess that I wasn't going to be eating lunch here today. A door in the back area, on the side wall leading to what I guessed was the back of the kitchen opened and out stepped the exact same Lynx mixed Fur. It stalked up to me and I saw it's hand open, its claws ready to open some flesh, but as it's paw came down towards my only surviving eye a black one stopped it. I looked over shocked, the female Panther Fur was defending me?

"What did he do to make you go to strike him?" she asked and I never noticed before, but this voice was protective, not scared, shy, or quiet. It was authoritative, strong, and power-filled. I watched with awe and wonder, why would she be protecting me? I was just a weak human that couldn't speak, couldn't keep up, and couldn't defend myself.

"The others were telling me that he said some pretty nasty things about my spots and my species" he said glaring at her, and he ripped his arm away and tried to strike me again, but the female Panther just stepped in front of him growling.

"Exactly how would he do that?" she growled and motioned to my neck and eye "he is partially impaired, hell did you not see the long scars running along his neck, rendering him unable to speak...permanently?" I looked in-between the two and internally sighed before walking from the line, and out of the mess hall with every eye following me as I left.

--------------------

I joined the others after the lunch tone had sounded, and I found the two female Furs looking at me with pity, and I knew exactly why. I controlled my breathing and pushed down my hunger as the commander started to speak again.

"Now for the rest of this night we are going to the shooting range, to sharpen your skills and see what weapons you are best at handling" he then set the pace for us and we jogged behind him, going to a giant metal building that looked as lonely on the outside, but the complete opposite on the inside.

There were Furs everywhere, fighting with different weapons, shooting pistols, assault rifles, shot guns, sniper rifles, and heavy guns. I looked around for a potential weapon that I wanted but I didn't see anything in sight that would give away a weapons case.

"This place is available every day, all day, so you could come here when you have free time this weekend, or any other time that you are free of training" the commander then pointed to the doors, "there are special scanners in those doors that will know if you bring a weapon in that wasn't cleared, or a weapon out that wasn't cleared, sending up an alarm through out the entire base which locks all cabins and areas making getting inside of a building impossible, and hiding places slim."

I was a little relieved, at least no one could try and smuggle out a gun and shoot me, but they could still do that in this building if they wanted to. The commander gave us each a bracelet f some kind and then attached one to his own wrist and walked over to one of the large counters and put his hand on the surface with his forearm facing the floor.  Then after it gave a sort of chirp, he swiped the back of his wrist on the side of the counter that he was on and it gave off a red light for a second before turning green and hissing.

Then a compartment slid out from the right side of the commander, the side of the counter directly in front of us, and on the compartment was a whole rack full of weapons, from knives, to sniper rifles. We were all shocked, and speechless, pushing aside the fact that I was forever speechless, but I was baffled same as the Furs on my team. I looked at the commander waiting to see if he'd let us grab a gun, and he went over to three other counters and opened their weapon compartments. Then he turned to us and motioned to the weapons.

"You may grab whatever you want to train with, but take heed, the weapons that you grab will be the things that you run with, exercise with, clean, and maintain for your entire lives as a soldier in my division" he said and we didn't need to hear this invitation twice.

We all rushed forwards and browsed through the weapons. I already knew what I wanted though, and I went immediately to the Sniper Rifles and picked up a .50 caliber Barret M107 Sniper Rifle, strapped it to my back, and went over to the Assult Rifles, where the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur was currently with a L115A3 Long Ranged Rifle with .338 Lapua Magnum rounds, on her back. She looked up at me and then at my gun and smirked, and I looked at the others. The two guys were in the heavy guns, the female Panther Fur was in the pistols and knives section with a FN Scar 17 CQC with a fully automatic/semi-automatic fire switch on her back already.

I decided to go with a Scar as well but instead of the heavier version I chose the lighter version: a FN Scar 16 CQC, and the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur chose a P-90 instead of an assault rifle like I thought she'd choose.

-------(Looking all of those up was Hella Tiring BTW)---------

We all stood in separate booths with each of our guns laid on the tables behind us, and the commander standing in front of us all, looking down on us like disappointments.

"Now that you've chosen your guns you will be shooting them, and as an added incentive, every shot you miss is ten push ups, I will know based on the amount of holes in your targets, so make sure to hit the target" he looked at each one of us, but stared at me a little longer than the others before moving on. "First weapon is up, shoot when you are ready"

I picked up the M107 and slipped the ten bullet mag in, cocked the gun, got on my stomach, aimed the gun down range, flipped off the switch, and did my best to aim at the center of the target about a twelve-hundred meters away and pulled the trigger. There was no air resistance because we were in a still air building, so I didn't have to worry about that as much as gravity, so when I looked into the scope and saw that the hit was in the second rung, I adjusted and shot at the third tic mark ( I have NO IDEA HOW THIS WORKS, so DO NOT JUDGE ME if it's wrong), it hit the center, or at least close to it, so I continued to shoot like that for the last eight rounds. Then I switched on the safety, pulled the mag out, set both the mag and the gun on the table and turned around waiting while the others finished up.

The commander looked at me and smirked, and then I noticed that the Purple and Black Wolf Fur was putting her weapon down as well, I smirked, for once I was better at something than some of the others. The twins were just hell storms of yelling and whooping, and the female Panther Fur finished her magazine and put her gun on the table in front of her like me and the female Purple and Black Wolf Fur in the shooting area next to me. She looked at the twins and shook her head with amusement and then stood at attention and looked forwards.

Their magazines ran out about another minute later and the two huskies huffed with slight disappointment, but took out the magazines and set them on the table as well as their guns. Then they turned around and saw the commander staring at the two of them with a bored and expectant expression.

"You two need to work on being accurate with those instead of just spray and praying. There is practically no way you'll hit a target further than fifty meters if you do that" he said and the two looked at the ground with the expressions of children that let their parents down.

"Okay, now that these two are done with their bullet-spraying spree, I want you all to press that red button on the left side of your booths" I was already moving to press the button before he was even done speaking. There were several beeps as the others pushed their buttons, and then there was a mechanical whirring, I looked back to see the target shooting forwards, towards us at an insane speed which should've ripped the targets in half, but as it slowed down, about three feet from the shooting booths, the targets were revealed with numerous amounts of bullet-holes spread through out them all.

"Now take them down, put another on, set the targets for a hundred meters away and start with your second choice gun" he didn't wait to see us pick up our weapons. He just turned and walked off, "when you are done with those ones, take down those targets and bring them both to my office, and stay there until I come back. I will know if you try to add extra holes to either of them to make it seem like you hit the target more times than not, and if you do decide to to this. Then be prepared to be in a world of hurt when you report back to me."

I looked back to see him turning right, heading down a dark corridor that didn't look at all like a very professional place to be going down for a meeting. I turned back to shooting, putting the thought in the back of my mind to ponder later.

This is all I'm posting of this story for now. I want to know what kind of attention it gets.
