Prolouge

If you're wondering where the hell I am, I'm in a camp, a torture camp that a group of selected girls from all Regions go to when they turn fourteen. The girls chosen are unfortunate, usually poor girls who ran away from home. They're brought here to be taught things so they can make a living in the future. It basically creates a life for you. It sounds simple but you are expected to face other pains and suffering. Because when you turn twenty, or rarely twenty-one, they marry you off to an old man and dump you someplace with no food, money or shelter. I wasn't supposed to go to camp, but I was found and put there.

I got dressed in our white uniform that had our name stitched carefully on the chest pocket in pink when I realized that I was the last one outside the cabin. I rush to the circle and listen.
Willow, the young trainer, is talking."Remember guys, when you get married you need to have kids or the regions will die. We're already low on population," she says.
I sigh, and rub my eyes with my hands. How long do I have to stay here?
Willow continues. "First you tell your husband to find a job somewhere and while he is at the job you must find a place to live." She points at the forest."We are going to have an exercise to practice this. All of you girls need to find a place to live on the forest for a week. We will provide you with little food and water and whoever survives the healthiest and happiest will get dessert next week." She says this in a way that makes me think she is joking. Dessert? Really? When I came here I thought this camp was bad enough but now we have to die for some sweets. We get handed out small bright orange packs that had food and water, and then Willow shouts,"You will start, NOW!"
I am, fortunately, a fast runner so I wake to the woods first. I went very deep and found a river flowing by. Well, that solves water, I think. I turn my head to see fat juicy blueberries, and that solves food.
The trees here are massive, with tons of branches and lots of bushy foliage.
I peered into my backpack and saw two one litre bottles and a pack of dried fruit. I also found a really thin blanket. I try to settle down by going over things I was sure about myself. My name is Aspen Sparrow and I am fifteen. I have brown eyes that seem liquid gold in the sun. My hair is.....brown, I suppose. It actually fades from brown to dark blonde in a natural ombre, tied up in my usual high ponytail. I'm tall and athletic for my age, but very skinny. Oh, and if I didn't mention it, they erase your memory before and after the camp with a modified one so when you tell your children you'll be like,"It's a great camp, teaches you a lot!" But its the opposite.
But then again you wouldn't know...would you?
