Sighing softly, Virgil buried his face in his notebook as two of his friends spoke to one another about their favorite online personality. It was all they seemed to speak about before classes started unless Logan was there to divert them- Logan, his sanity in their small friend group- who was making his way over just as Virgil glanced up, praise be.

"Good morning Virgil, Patton, and Roman. How are you all this morning?" Logan greeted, subtly adjusting his glasses as he took a seat on the bench beside Roman. Their seating arrangements never really changed around the picnic table unless something class-wise made one of them switch sides.

Virgil's response was a grunt and a casual two-fingered wave before Patton leaned forward, "Hey, Lo! We're good! Did you catch Jayu's stream last night? I know that you like some of the music they play!"

"Oh my Zeus, did you catch their riveting stance on the current state of academia in regards to the performing arts? I think they're my soulmate!" Roman was quick to include, half-leaning on Logan in a fit of dramatics.

Clearing his throat, Logan raised an eyebrow at Roman before speaking, "I did, in fact, listen to Jayu last night, they provide quite an interesting take on multiple topics- music included." He stated cleanly before turning to Roman and pushing the other off of his shoulder, "That being said, Roman, didn't you declare that youtube creator-"

"Jon Cozart!"

"Yes, Jon Cozart, to be your soulmate just last week?"

"That was then, this is now!" Roman was quick to interject, Virgil scoffing before he can stop himself- causing Roman to direct a glare at him, "What could you possibly have to say about my future partner-for-life, storm cloud?"

"Plenty." Virgil was pleased to leave his response at the simple, gruff, response; but a quick glance around the table told him he wasn't going to be getting off with just that. So with a soft sigh, he began, "First of all, you switch supposed 'soulmates' more frequently that I switch out band tees- and I could wear a new one everyday of the year." Virgil started, hesitating a moment before adding, "And secondly, do you know anything about Jayu? Other than their name, and whatever stances they take on their livestreams? Is Jayu even their real name? How tall are they? Are they nonbinary or is using they/them just another way to disguise who they are? Do you even know how old they are? What country they're from? No, no one does. Someone like that can't be your soulmate. Heck, you might not even like them in real life!"

Silence fell over the table as all three of his friends stared at him before Logan cleared his throat and Patton reached out and took Virgil's hand, "Oh, friendo, I'm sure Roman didn't mean any harm by his claim of Jayu being his soulmate." The oldest in their group tried to reassure as gently as he could.

"Yeah, bedhead, you know me-" Roman cut himself off, not wanting to lay claim to his true theatrics, but his frantic hand gestures allowed then all to come to the conclusion of what he was saying.

They hung out for a few more less-tense minutes before the bell went off. All four of them responding to the sound in their own way. Logan stood up cleanly, extracting himself from his bench at the table and straightening his outfit with a few quick hand movements before grabbing his backpack; Roman practically jumped on top of the bench, throwing his backpack over one shoulder with one hand while the other checked his hair; Patton calmly extracted himself from the bench and grabbed his bag before leaning forward and tugging Virgil off of their bench; and Virgil allowed himself to be dragged away from the bench, his shoulder bag style backpack never having been taken off upon his arrival.

The day seemed to fly by, homework and assignments piled up fast and as soon as it had begun, school came to an end for the day and Virgil's bag was stuffed beyond capacity and he had an extra binder under his right arm. Agreeing to meet up with his friends the next morning, Virgil waved at them all before heading home, sending a text off to his only other friend- because said friend was actually his brother's best friend who had a crush on said brother- Remy.

Upon arriving home, he called out his arrival before locking himself in his room; only pausing long enough to hang his hand-made "don't knock, don't shout, just text me (please)" sign on the door. Flinging open his closet door, he hauled out a board with acoustic foam attached to it and pushed it in front of his bedroom door. Waking up the desktop computer, he dropped his backpack on his bed before pulling out his laptop and opening that as well.

A few more tweaks and set-up corrections and Virgil exhaled before bringing up his favorite streaming service and setting up his first graphic. Grabbing his old phone, he opened the twitter application and sent out a notification that the stream would be starting soon before clicking the button to start the livestream on his desktop, and activating the countdown graphic.

Taking the time to calm down his anxiety, Virgil grabbed the sunglasses he kept on the desk and placed them on his head to keep his fringe back as he focused on his work. Within seconds of the countdown finishing out, he put up the next graphic, activated his microphone and started speaking.

"Hey, hey, hey all you flowing in!" He paused and glanced at the stream on his muted laptop, "I see we're up to three thousand of you already! Welcome! Hello to you to, UnicornKitten247! Let's get this show on the road, shall we?"

Virgil paused just long enough for the dead air to not be seriously awkward before launching into the true start of his broadcasting. "If you're new here, my name is Jayu! This is my stream; and here is your proverbial passport to use this time as needed! If you need a study break, background noise, or company while you work on whatever- you have the freedom to do as you need!" A double click on his desktop set the first song up to play just under his voice as he added the title and artist of the song.

Letting out a sigh, Virgil, leaned back as he checked his actual phone- the old school one only serving the purpose of being the home for the twitter profile of Jayu, and therefore it laid at the back of the desk until the end of the stream- and started replying to the messages he had there. Informing Remy that his brother would in fact be interested in seeing whatever film he's thinking of, and telling Logan that he would be starting his homework when he had a minute. Once done, he double-checked the queue he had for music before setting himself up to take back over when the song came to an end.

Virgil was well aware he couldn't keep up a double life such as this for much longer, but as he sunk back into his on-air personality for Jayu- he allowed himself to pretend for just a little bit longer.
