He was never one to believe in whimsy, only ever relying on facts and evidence to sway his actions toward one thing or another. Logan could not help that even if his sister thought the world of unseen mythical beings even as she entered school; he had only ever believed in the logical, harsh reality of the world.
At least, that was what he always told himself; every day- for the last 6 years, 7 months, and three days. Yet, was he going to allow this simple walk through the woods behind their house change that? After all, he had come out here to gather samples from different plant types throughout the woods and yet right now- he was face-to-face with the impossible.
Not just one either, but three. There were three young men standing before him with translucent, moving, wings protruding from their backs. All three glanced at one another before the tallest of the three stepped forward.
"Forget what you saw here little elf, it's time to return to your home." The man with his clothes leaning heavily into the reds of the color wheel urged, making a shoo motion with his hands.
"Ro, I don't think he's listening..." The one with his outfit favoring the multitude of blue hues spoke, moving just enough for Logan to realize that the edging of his shirt wasn't as sharp as "Ro's" but wasn't jagged like the other guy; no, his clothes had a rounded wave-like edging to them.
"I'm sorry, but are you all cosplaying?" Logan finally cut in with the only logical approach he could think to take for their outfits. "Could this be a Dungeons and Dragons thing- are there fae in that game? I have honestly never played it, but I believe your attire would match the mood and setting of such a game."
The one whom had yet to speak finally moved forward slightly, resting a hand on Ro's shoulder and muttering something into his ear before glancing at Logan again. Ro's face seemed to shutter for an instant before he turned to the blue guy and whispered to him as well. After a moment the one in blue skipped forward in a movement that looked more like a glide, as he came up to Logan.
"Hey, we were wondering, where do you come from? You see, we are kind of curious as it has been decades since one of your kind was seen; that is, if V's assumption is correct." There was a gesture back toward the one in darker colors, his head tilted so that Logan couldn't make eye contact with him- how peculiar.
"My home is on the edge of the woods, which is why I'm wondering how all of you came to arrive here? These woods are not all that large so someone would have seen or heard you enter somewhere." Logan explained, adjusting his glasses in an attempt to distract himself from the irritation that was climbing it's way up inside him.
"Well, that's the thing, kiddo. There's only one type of being that can see us-"
"Pat, should we be telling him this?" V spoke up suddenly, his voice barely louder than a whisper, but enough to stop the man in blue.
Ro cut in as well, "I mean, clearly the little one hasn't the foggiest of his own bloodline!"
"That is entirely untrue. I know that I am type O+; there is a history of high blood sugar on my mother's father's side of the family; that my father passed when I was fairly young, but my grandparents do write to me on occasion as they struggle to handle dialing the correct numbers to properly hold a telephone conversation-"
"That... is not what we meant, little one." Ro interrupted, his nose scrunched and eyebrows furrowed as he internally struggled with how to handle Logan's blunt way of thinking.
It was within the beat that followed that things seemed to completely change for the serious young lad, his senses suddenly had him on high alert for a reason he could not understand. There was nothing he could pick out that should alert him to danger- that was until he saw a misty yellow and a second misty green serpentine-like fog begin to curl their way through the grass. His gaze sharpening on the movement he calculated the movements they were taking before looking up at the trio again.
"V, was it?" The darkly dressed man froze before giving a curt nod, "I need you to move forward. Ro, Pat, do you have some sort of weapon? If so, you may want to be at the ready. V do you have someone after you?" Logan rattled off effortlessly, his brain and body reacting as one in movements he had no prior training or understanding of; but ones that simply felt correct.
Ro pulled a small dagger out of a hidden sheath on his thigh whilst Pat pulled out some tiny dart looking things; Logan glanced at V whom had moved to standing beside him and had pulled a bow off his shoulder and an arrow from an artfully hidden quiver on his back. They murmured among one another for any chance they had seen or heard something, but Logan kept his eyes trained on the slithery mists; his hands coming together in front of his chest as his fingers clasped together save for the index fingers of both hands.
As the movement was completed, Logan felt the world fall silent around him, his senses focusing in on their surroundings until he caught it- a slight movement to the southwest, and a second movement to the northeast; two beings approaching in an attempt to be able to capture someone. Focusing harder, he figured out the best course of action after another beat and gasped as he forced his hands apart.
"Ro! Turn to your left, something is coming from the southwest!" He turned to Pat and called his name before instructing him to face the opposing side, "V stay alert, they're trying to sense you."
Time felt as though it simultaneously sped up and slowed down as the group fought off the sudden attack. There was a moment when the magic the opposing force used seemed too powerful for what this little group was prepared for- then Logan felt something akin to a tug at the back of his consciousness. Mentally reaching out,he found where the tug was originating and closed his eyes for an instant.
Acceptance.
This was the key for Logan, for as his eyes opened once more the once brown iris of his eyes now swirled with a shade of blue-green that seemed luminescent on its own. A flick from his wrists and both of his hands had the same luminescence surrounding them; raising his arm toward the enemy he was nearest and moved his arms quickly, instinctively. In a flash, the man was thrown across the clearing in an arch until his body collided with his friend.
"Ro!" Logan hollered, the male jumping forward with a rope he hadn't seen Ro produce and tied the two together. As soon as the duo were secured, the coloration dispelled from Logan's hands and his eyes fluttered shut before he collapsed to his hands and knees.
The young man's vision started fading to black, and the words and sensations around him quickly became muddled. The last words he was able to make out echoing slightly in his head as he welcomed the darkness.
"Does this mean he's the prophesied one?"
