Upon their 18th birthday, everyone in society is assigned a color. The system has become global and it has helped maintain a co-dependent balance throughout humanity.

It all started with a cube. A cube with six colors that would come to be the colors of the people. A cube with the colors white, red, blue, yellow, green, and orange.

Patton was the first in their class to get his color. He proudly explained that he was classified among the white group. A group known for their innocence as well as their ability to bring peace. It seemed to fit him rather well in the eyes of the students.

The next student to get their color that made it's waves in their graduating class was the valedictorian- Logan. His friends were the ones to advertise that his color class was blue. Blue was the classification of the calmest, and some of the wisest, people.

It wasn't long before the only twins of their class got their colors and were proud to not only announce them- but to display them by making their own jackets and accessories for their colors. Roman- the younger twin- had been deemed a red. Red were known to be prideful but also have a tendency to shine with their ingenuity. Remus on the other hand, received green. Those assigned to green tended to be those who bring equilibrium, and are known for their virility.

Then there was Zeke. Known to be somewhat of a rebel, it was almost no surprise when word got around that he was sorted as a yellow. Brazen and spontaneous were probably the most synonymous with Zeke, and therefore it was nearly no surprise at all when that became the guy's color.

The next big shockwave came from one of the last birthdays before their winter vacation. Virgil's sorting landed him in orange. Which made no sense to anyone. Oranges were known to be enthusiastic and overtly creative whereas Virgil was only creative as a means to put up his defenses and the most enthusiasm he tried to portray was a hiss when someone annoyed him too much.

Despite the dismissal for break, rumors spread like wildfire about the young man. Ranging from him forcing the system to read him wrong to him coercing the Master of Colors into giving him one that no one else in their class had yet to receive. It was only two days into winter break that he found himself seated at the bottom of the steps in his living room staring at the five other kids that had been the talk of the school- lost as to why they were even here; at his home, how did they know where he lived?

"The rumors aren't true." He finally spat out, hoping to end whatever this meeting of the mindless was trying to achieve.

"We know!" Patton quickly interjected.

Roman nodded, "Those aren't why we're here."

"That is correct, the fanciful words of our peers mean little in light of what you are actually faced with, Virgil."

"Calculator watch, you shouldn't speak so stiffly! Your words aren't what's supposed to be stiff with me around!" Remus flirted, only to be met with an actual calculator watch being shoved into his face from Logan's pocket. The object accompanied by a quip about the use of 'figuratives' and 'literals'when a nickname hasn't been accepted.

Zeke let out a huff before pushing his way in front of the others, "Logos did some research and he believes there was an error in your sorting; but not in the way you're thinkin'."

"What." It wasn't a question, Virgil just had no other words to respond to the information he was provided.

Logan cleared his throat and shot Zeke a loop before speaking up, "I believe out local sorting chapter failed to receive the update as provided by the Global Association of Sorting-"

"Or gas for short!"

"Yes, thank you, Remus." Logan acknowledged, adjusting his glasses as he continued, "The Orange category as of the Fourteenth of December has been dissolved, the members of that original category were re-sorted as necessary and another category replaced it."

"And you think that I...?"

"You're a purple!" Roman jumped in, very clearly trying to reign himself in, but his voice projected loud enough to make Virgil jump regardless.

There was a moment of hesitation before Virgil dared to question, "What is a purple?"

"Purples are known to be protective and intuitive." Logan supplied succinctly.

Patton leaned forward slightly as his feet rocked beneath him, "Does that feel like a more accurate fit, kiddo?"

Noticing Virgil's clear hesitation, yet again, Zeke stepped in, "From what I've seen of you, I think it's fairly accurate." He supplied with a half shrug.

Looking up at the group for another minute, Virgil slowly stood up before looking at the twins, "Do you guys have a place I can get some decent fabric for cheap?" He asked, a slight smirk on his lips as he put his hands into the pockets of his black and grey hoodie, eliciting identical squeal-like sounds from the two in question.

"What is happening?" Logan asked, wide eyes shifting between the two noisiest members of their group.

Patton just giggled as Virgil shrugged at Logan, leaving Zeke to clean up the mess yet again, "Virgil said he thinks your conclusion was correct."

"Oh, well, of course it is. I didn't pour over all of that documentation just to be incorrect or to be taken a fool." Logan stated, straightening his impeccable outfit once more.

Chaos quickly enveloped the group as plans were thrown about to help update Virgil's jacket as well as opening the floor to the idea of helping everyone update their outfits a little bit.

January fifth came hard and fast; but as Virgil entered the school building just behind the group he had grown to call his friends over the last couple of weeks, he held his head higher than he ever had before. A smile graced his lips as the twins shared a look before falling back to hang over him, Roman's arm resting just behind his neck, and Remus' arm just below that.

"What are you waiting on, you dork?"

"The world is our oyster, stormcloud!"

The rest of the group glanced back at the three of them before soft laughter broke out; and quickly Virgil pulled himself free before turning around and launching himself at the twins. His surprise attack hug was quickly reciprocated before the rest of their small group piled in as well. Virgil had always relied on his instincts to get him out of the worst of situations up until now, but suddenly he felt like he wouldn't have to bear the weight of the world anymore. He would still be vigilant, but now he had an actual friend group to rely on.
