The rest of the evening they ate and introduced themselves to the rest of the Gryffindor table. Serena had been busy flirting with a group of guys and Renae had been talking to some prefects about nerd stuff. Pepper was following Serena and laughing at whatever she said. Jane walked around greeting people. They had met some guys: Liam, Marley who goes by Marl, and a few others. They met a few other girls in their year but none of them were that interesting.

After the feast they were led to the Gryffindor tower. The walk seemed to last ages. They had to climb so many stairs that moved every few minutes. Portraits on the wall whispered and pointed at the first years. Serena and Jane made funny faces at them. They took this personally.

Finally they arrived at a portrait of a fat lady.

"Password," she said.

" Gillyweed," said the prefect leading them. The portrait moved, revealing a hole in the wall big enough to crawl through. They all climbed into a warm room with many chairs and couches, a few small tables, and a crackling fire. There was also many doorways along the wall with stairs inside. "This is your common room," said the prefect. Him and a few others led them first year boys and girls up separate stairs. The stairs led to a room with seven four-poster beds, their trunks in the front of their beds, and a window overlooking the Black Lake. Jane's bed was next to Serena's and across from Pepper and Renae's.

They ran to their beds and sat down. The prefect left and it was just them and three other girls that were talking to each other. The rest of the night was spent on Jane's bed. They all fell asleep talking to each other. Though they had known each other for less than a day they were as close as anybody who knew each other for ten years.
