Soilder 76's PoV

When the last bell rang for the day I took a moment to try and collect myself. There was something about teaching a mandatory freshman history class that sometimes makes you wonder why you took a carrier in teaching. Sometimes you need to take a moment to remind yourself of the good things.

I had been looking through some of my old notes when I had someone approaching my desk. I was about to look up when the visitor spoke. I recognized him from voice alone.

"Been a while Morrison" Gabe said as he pulled up a chair to the other side of my desk.

"Reyes," I sighed as I started to collect everything to leave. "I thought you had agreed to bother me at work."

"But I had also agreed to tell you if I ever had a problem." I looked up and noticed that Gabe had a look that I didn't often see. Worry.

"Does this..." I started and was met only with a nod. I set down my things and sat down again. "What happened?"

"Do you remember that kid who ran away?" he asked as he moved to the end of the seat and leaned closer.

"You said it was before she had a chance to do anything"

"That's what she told me at the time," he paused for a moment as if trying to find the right words. "She's lied to me. This one is actually rather dangerous."

"What do you need me to do?" It was clear he picked up on the light annoyance in my voice.

"Take him in before it's too late. I don't know his plans, but I know he could end up hurt."

"Who?"

"You should know Jack" Gabe said with a laugh "or did you lose your ability to sniff out fire crackers?"

The old joke got me to smile, but o course the comment rubbed me the wrong way. I had hoped I'd been wrong when I say that kid. "What are you going to tell Moria?"

"Whatever I have to say to keep that lab rat from dying."

"Will you get me a coffee when this mess is over?" I chuckled, but stopped when I noticed that Gabe was just smiling.

"I'd pay for dinner to if you can help me save this kid."
