Art Class

McCree's PoV

"Jesse McCree?"

"Here" I called to the teacher with a smile before turning back to my project. I was not the best artist and I would take any chance I could get to draw. I was working on a colored penile drawing of a dusty western town.  While my outlines weren't the best work I spent a long time working on the colors and shading.

I was used to sitting in the back of my classes so I could be alone, but art was very different. I was still sitting in the back, but now I wasn't alone. Across from me was a girl with a long blond ponytail named Angela, she was a wonderful painter and also taking an several advanced science classes. Next to her was a blond boy, who had a prosthetic leg and arm, named Jamison. He didn't pay attention to the teacher and spent the class drawing a portrait of someone.

The person next to me though, was perhaps the most interesting. His name was Hanzo Shimada, and he really was the best artist in the class. It was only the second day of the year and he was already inking a drawing of a beautiful dragon. He also wasn't that bad looking and tended to be a distraction, but I never said a word to him. Kinda difficult to come up with something when everyone thought I was dating his brother.

Genji and I had been at a theater camp over the summer, him as a performer and me working on tech crew. The two of us had started talking and became fast friends. The two of us passed playful flirts back and forth and he ended up confessing to me that he had caught feelings. I had told him that I wasn't looking for a relationship and he seemed to back down, however I knew he was telling other people that we were just talking things very slow. I didn't see a problem with it before, but now that school had started again I was hoping to tell him to stop, but I haven't had a chance yet. But I knew his brother would believe Gemji's stories.

After a long period of me staring, I was caught red handed. Hanzo rolled his eyes. "Could you place focus on your own artwork?"

"Who said I was looking at your artwork?" I winked and flashed him a dorky grin.

Hanzo just shook her head and went back to work and I tried to refocus my attention. I had scrapped the idea of making proper shapes and was working in the world of abstractions.

About halfway threw class the teacher asked us to critique someone else's project. The two blonds at at the table turn to each other and started talking. I quickly looked around hoping to find someone else to talk to but that was not the case. "May I see your work?" I slowly passed over my work feeling very ashamed. Hanzo passed his to me and I looked over it. When I looked up at him, he was smiling.

"Listen if you want to pick on my work I really don't want to hear it" I said with a slight sigh. "Just because yours is flawless don't give you any right to be picky with mine."

Hanzo sighed and shook his head. "It's okay, I was going to say your work was good for the time you've had. I take it you're drawing a desert?"

"How'd you guess?" I asked with a little laugh, I could have sworn I saw a hit of a smile on his face.

"The coloring mostly, but I might have an idea to continue this picture?" His voice was calm and very much unlike the near glare I had gotten when he caught me staring.

"What's that?" My voice had become softer too.

"You could draw a train or something similar on another piece of paper and layer it over this background"

I smiled a bit and turned back to the dragon. "Like I said before yours is flawless, the best thing I've ever seen"

"Thank you" he handed me back my work and I handed him back his. I worked for the rest of class finishing my wild west drawing knowing I would start the train next class.
