15 - Embers of Betrayal and Light of Companionship
Gemini stared coldly at Pha, his voice filled with a mix of anger and sadness. "What should I do with you, Pha? Your actions have caused immense pain to my friends."
Pha trembled, his body recoiling in fear as Gemini's words pierced through him. Suddenly, a glimmer of recollection flickered in his eyes, and he mustered the courage to respond. "Gemini, you should stop. If you harm me, you will only be inviting Leo's wrath upon yourself. You are not the only one who possesses supernatural power."
Gemini showed a determined smile as he slowly closed the distance between them. His eyes sparkled with an unwavering resolve. "Leo, regardless of who he is, doesn't scare me. In fact, it only fuels my determination to punish him. He must answer for his heinous crimes." The weight of his words hung heavy in the air.
Overwhelmed by anger and grief, Gemini's emotions erupted within him. He lashed out, delivering a forceful kick that sent Pha crashing into the wall. He continued, "It was Leo who ordered the merciless slaughter of my friends in Medical Lecture Hall 1. Leng told me everything. And you, Pha," his voice quivered with a mixture of sorrow and rage, "You played your part in that heinous crime. What are you thinking? They are your classmates afterall."
Pha tried to sit up, blood running down from his mouth. Despite the pain, he managed a twisted smile and mockingly said, "They deserved that anyway. They were fools, unable to grasp the concept of the new world order. They clung to their old beliefs, their feeble notions of justice and compassion. It was their ignorance that led to their demise."
Gemini extended his hand, and a dark aura began to coalesce around it. Pha felt an immediate and overwhelming pressure on his neck, as if an invisible hand were mercilessly squeezing the life out of him. Gasping for air, his eyes bulged from their sockets, and he desperately struggled to break free. Yet, Gemini's power was relentless, far too formidable for Pha to overcome.
Despite the excruciating pain, Pha managed to force a smile and defiantly spoke, "Your friends will meet me soon."
Surprisingly, Gemini halted his assault and released his grip on Pha, allowing him to crumple to the ground. Fearing the worst, Gemini couldn't help but inquire, "What do you mean?"
Coughing and catching his breath, Pha responded with an eerie hint of satisfaction, "While you're preoccupied here, Leo has already discovered the location of the betrayers, Bang's group, and your runaway friends from Lecture Hall 1. He's on his way there as we speak, they are dead for sure."
Pha's grim revelation sent a cold shiver down Gemini's spine, and the gravity of the situation became painfully evident. Concern for his friends' safety contorted Gemini's face, and his eyes narrowed with determination as he turned towards Leng, who was nursing his broken arms in the corner of the room.
"Leng," Gemini commanded firmly, "Go and find out where Leo has gone. Ask your subordinates in the camp, gather whatever information you can."
Despite the pain, Leng nodded, understanding the urgency of the situation. He struggled to his feet, limping slightly, but knew he had no choice but to obey Gemini's order if he wanted to survive. Slowly, he made his way out of the room, determined to prove his usefulness to his new boss.
Meanwhile, Gemini approached Pha, who was still recovering from the brutal display of power. With a swift use of his own abilities, Gemini pulled Pha towards him, guiding him close by gripping the back of Pha's neck. Though Pha's fear and pain were palpable, he couldn't break free from Gemini's powerful grasp.
"You're coming with me," Gemini said sternly, his voice unwavering. "Leo may still value his 'toy' after all."

"Feeling better now?" Fourth smiled warmly, his eyes sparkling with kindness as he looked at Love. She was in absolute awe, her heart racing with disbelief and gratitude as she witnessed the miraculous transformation before her very eyes. Her once injured and infected arm, which had caused her so much pain and distress, now looked pristine and whole, as if it had never been hurt.
Bang, who stood beside them, displayed a mix of relief and concern. "Fourth, you really should consider stopping this. Love, Captain, Gemini's close friends and I, along with my subordinates, can be trusted to keep your power a secret. But I can't guarantee others would react the same way. You have no idea what they might do if they found out about your incredible ability to heal people."
Fourth's smile persisted, his handsome face illuminated by the warm, golden sunrays streaming through the window. "I understand your worry, Bang," he replied, his tone soothing. "And I appreciate your concern. I promise to be cautious. Moreover, I am more than capable of protecting myself if the need arises. As you've experienced firsthand, have you?"
Bang nodded hesitantly, still feeling uneasy about the potential risks involved. "I believe that, Fourth, but you know how the world can be. There are those who might fear your gift or seek to exploit it."
Love, who had been quietly listening, interjected with heartfelt gratitude. "I agree with Bang, Fourth. What you've done for me is incredible, and I can't thank you enough. But I worry about you too. Promise us that you'll prioritize your safety and well-being."
Fourth's eyes softened with gratitude for their concern. "I promise, both of you. I won't let my guard down."
Just as the conversation between Fourth, Bang, and Love unfolded, the door gently creaked open, and Milk and Captain stepped inside. With a look of concern, Milk hurried over to check on Love's arm, making sure everything was alright.
Love smiled appreciatively at Milk's attentiveness. "I'm feeling okay now, thanks to Fourth," she said gratefully.
Milk turned to Fourth with a thankful expression. "Thank you for helping her," she said sincerely.
"Oh, it's nothing. Don't mention it," Fourth replied, his smile concealing the toll that healing took on him. He quietly took a seat nearby, not wanting to draw attention to the weakness that momentarily gripped him after using his gift. He was well aware of the risks involved, but he chose to bear the burden in silence to avoid worrying those around him.
As the group settled in, Fourth turned to Captain and inquired about the situation. "Is everything still okay?" he asked. "Have Prom and Mark returned yet?"
Captain nodded, providing a reassuring response. "Everything is under control. Prom and Mark are finishing the preparation in the Student Recreation Center building nearby. They will be back soon."
Fourth nodded while Bang appeared somewhat worried. They had taken a risk by betraying Leo's group in the heat of the moment, all to protect Lisa from those lustful thugs. Together with Captain and Fourth, they sought refuge with Mark and Prom's group, a gathering of runaway students from Lecture Hall 1. Secretly, Bang and his subordinates had been providing them with supplies, unbeknownst to their former leader, Leo.
Nearly a week had passed since they settled in the shelter, and things seemed to be going well. However, Bang couldn't shake his fear that Leo would track them down and seek vengeance. Fourth, perceptive as ever, noticed the worry etched on Bang's face and offered him a reassuring smile.
"Bang, I understand what's on your mind. But remember, we've planned for every possible situation," Fourth said, trying to calm Gemini childhood's friend.
"I know," Bang sighed, "I can't help but worry. The horrors I've witnessed from Leo, it's as if he's completely devoid of any humanity."
"Speaking of Leo, could you tell us all you know about him besides his power to control fire?" Captain chimed in, capturing everyone's attention with his question.
With a heavy heart, Bang began to recount everything he knew about Leo from his time at the camp. Leo was one of the unfortunate souls who awakened their powers after the zombie apocalypse struck. Abandoned by his own mother at a young age, he grew up as a street thug, with a tarnished reputation, despised by both ordinary people and fellow criminals alike. When the apocalypse hit, he resorted to stealing from those near the university for survival, only to be bitten by a zombie and left for dead inside a trash bin.
But fate had other plans for Leo. Against all odds, he survived, awakening with the incredible ability to control and create fire. With this newfound power, he formed his own gang and started plundering other survivors to ensure his survival, eventually establishing a stronghold in the Medical Faculty Canteen building at Chulalongkorn University.
"This was when I met him. Engineer students like myself knew from the very first moment that we had to obey his orders if we wanted to survive," Bang said, his voice tinged with sadness. "Those friends of mine who went against him all burned alive. I still have nightmares about it every night."
"BANG!!"
A loud explosion rocked the building, interrupting Bang's story. Fourth rushed to the window to assess the situation while Bang urgently called out to the students downstairs. One of Bang's friends hurriedly ascended to their room, his voice trembling with fear.
"It's Leo! He and his men are outside the building!"
"Leo?!" Bang gasped, feeling as though his worst fears had come true.
"KABOOM!"
Another loud bang reverberated through the building, making Captain anger. "What is the bastard doing? Is he not afraid that all this noise will draw more zombies here? He should remember he's the one outside, in the open area!"
"I'm affraid that's his intention." Fourth answered his best friend. With golden halos covering his eyes, he witnessed all of what happened outside. The dust and debris in the air cannot stop his enhanced vision. "He shoot fireballs from far away, where it is safe, with intention to attract zombie here. He wanted to use them to deal with us."
"He's capable of do that?" Bang annoyed. "I've never seen him do that before."
"He has grown stronger then," Fourth remarked. "Anyway, we must stick to our plan."
Bang and the rest of the group nodded in agreement. Milk and Love swiftly evacuated everyone through the tunnel they had dug, connecting to the University sewer system, in case of an emergency. Meanwhile, Captain and the others left through the back door, heading to the nearby Student Recreation Center building to rendezvous with Mark and Prom. Bang and Fourth remained steadfast at their current location.
Once the others had left, Bang couldn't help but steal a worried glance at Fourth, his expression riddled with concern. "You really should go with Captain," he insisted, his voice tinged with a mix of determination and anxiety. "I can handle being the bait on my own."
"You still do this alone, remember?" Fourth playfully teased. "I'll only intervene if things get out of hand and you're in danger."
"But still," Bang sighed, "I can't let you get hurt. Gemini will surely kill me if something happens to his cute and handsome boyfriend."
"You talk like you've experienced it before," Fourth chuckled as they started descending downstairs. "He claims I'm his first love. How can you know how he'll react?"
"He's incredibly possessive, even with his close friends," Bang explained. "Back in high school, I was bullied once, and he sent the bullies to hospital for months. With friends, he can be that intimidating. Imagine what he'd do if you, his lover, got hurt. I can't even bear to think about it."
"He's really that possessive?" Fourth burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the tense atmosphere as another blast shook the building. "I can't help but be curious to witness that for myself."
Bang shook his head, feeling a sense of resignation. He knew firsthand how intense Gemini's protectiveness could be, and he couldn't bring himself to wish it upon even his worst enemy. Together, Bang and Fourth took cover in the foremost room, bracing themselves for the next attack. The barricaded door struggled to hold up against the constant barrage of Leo's fiery blasts.
As the door finally gave in, Bang prepared himself to face the danger outside. He glanced at Fourth, who offered a thumbs-up and a cute wink. "Wishing you luck, my comrade. May your body remain intact," Fourth said with a playful tone.
"Is that a wish or a curse?" Bang smiled back, mustering his courage before stepping out through the front door. Fourth, determined to protect his new friend, swiftly followed at a safe distance. The friendship between them had grown strong, and Fourth knew he would do whatever it took to keep Bang safe.
