Chapter 2

"Can I have a banana?"

Aqua looked toward me as I shoved my index finger back into my jar of Skippy peanut butter. It wasn't the most glorious way to eat, but being in a rat infested alley and behind a dumpster, it really didn't matter.

"Hmm?" Aqua asked between bites.

"Can I have a banana?" I asked again, immediately shoving my peanut butter coated finger into my mouth after I had spoken.

"No way," she said, taking another bite. "You chose to steal peanut butter and Kool-aid. I chose to steal bananas and water bottles, and I'm already sharing the water with you." She nodded towards the blue liquid filled water bottle by my leg.

"But I need potassium, too, and.." I continued on about the logical thing to do, give me a banana, while she argued about a made-up pact we had. Our bickering was cut off by the rattling of the chain link fence beside us as a sixteen year old boy, the same age as the two of us, jumped on top of it. He looked to be a run-away, his reddish-yellowish hair, like his clothes, was streaked with dirt, and his clothes were worn and ripped in places.

"You two must be the Gemini Sisters," he said casually, as if we were being introduced by an old friend. Aqua screeched, I flung peanut butter at his face, which he dodged. "Let me guess, you're the Spark," he pointed at me, "and you're Aqua." He pointed to Aqua.

"Wait a second," I said. "How do you know about us?"

He scoffed. "Um, we lived in the same laboratory, for like, five years. Duh. I was three capsule away from you, Aqua."

"I don't trust you," I admonished. "If you're really another lab rat, show us your powers."

"Spark, what are you doing?" Aqua asked in a harsh whisper. The boy smirked at us, and he revealed his secret to us. He suddenly disappeared, and in his place was a black outline of himself, a shadow.

"Invisibility, eh?" I said, unimpressed. That was the most common ability the lab worked on.

"Nope," he replied, but his voice wasn't in front of us but behind us. Aqua and I both jumped, and the boy just chuckled. "I control worm holes and black holes, which makes me a difficult opponent. It would be foolish not to become allies."

"Allies?" I asked. "When did you come up with that?"

"It was implied by you when you asked what his powers. Sort of like testing him to see if he's 'worthy enough'." Aqua whispered to me.

"I don't care, shut up."

"So, your answer?"

"Huh?" I questioned him.

"Allies? Or should I destroy you know?"

"Allies it is, then!" Aqua grabbed his hand and gave it a vigorous shake. I turned to her, giving her a questioning glance, to which she mouthed 'I'm saving our lives'.

He beckoned to us with his hand, and created a worm hole with the other. He casually walked in, and I had to drag Aqua, who clearly wasn't sure if this guy was taking us to a hide-out, or a pit of lava, since the whole in front of us was just a black pit.

It was just... Awesome. There was no space or time delay, just one second you were one place, and the next you were at your destination.

“Whoa,” I gasped.

 “Ew,” Aqua mumbled.

We were placed in front of an ivy encased manor on the verge of collapsing, which seemed to be his hide-out.

"Jake!" A feminine voice came from somewhere around us. Aqua and I did a double-take, fear and menace in our eyes. We scanned the area, searching the maples behind us for our worst enemy.

"Hey, Willa!" The boy turned to us,"What you guys looking for? Willa only yelled my name. Come on, I'll introduce you." We followed the boy, Jake, into the house, and saw that it wasn't shabby at all. The walls were pristine, the floor shone underfoot, and dust didn't seem to exist.

We walked into the kitchen where a girl sat, using a laptop while being fed cereal by a floating spoon. Her hair was black (maybe dark brown, I really couldn't tell from this angle) with red streaks, encasing her face like a curtain. She looked a lot cleaner than Jake, her shirt was bright and her skirt showed no traces of rips.

"So Jake," the girl, presumably Willa, asked. "What every happened to your catch?"

"Oh shoot. When I saw these two, the Gemini Sisters, I just dropped everything and ran towards them. I'll go get them now." He stuck his hand out and had it disappear into a worm hole. He fished around for a bit, until finally he pulled his arm back out, a sack in his grasp. "Well, that's taken care of. Alright, introductions. I'm Jake, as you already know. Jake Shadowslip."

"I'm Willa, Willa Fire."

"So, can you, like, control fire, or something?" I asked. She shook her head.

"No, I can just use telekinesis, telepathy, and a few other loose ends having to do with the mind."

"Aw, sweet!" I exclaimed, punching the air. "We get a psychic on our team! Oh, and I'm Spark."

"Aqua."

"Yes, yes, now that we've got through the minor stuff," Jake said, plopping his sack on the ground, "Willa? You called me back here for a reason, an important one in fact."

"Yes, and it affects you, Spark, Aqua, too. I've been doing a little research and found this, the back story of your powers." She turned the laptop towards us, revealing the title: "The Legend of the Gemini War and Peace". Willa spun the laptop back towards her, cleared her throat, and began to read.

" 'Long ago when the world just began to rotate, to children were born with supernatural powers. The boy had the ability to control fire and electricity and had wings of the mightiest dragon growing from his back. The girl could control and purify water and had the wings of the most peace loving dove growing from her back. Since the were born this way, the parents disowned them, and left them in the forest to die.

"Years passed and no one had every learned of these mysterious children until one day years and years later.

"A hunter had gone out one day to the far off forest where the Gemini had been left, and had come out white as bone. He had told the town folk that he had seen a spawn of bird and man in the forest. Most of the town folk had dismissed it as hallucination since the hunter was quite old in age, though most did not dismiss it completely. Young boys would go into the forest as a courage test, causing the forest have many regular visits, and it was impossible for the Gemini to stay hidden.

"They emerged on a Saturday, and the town took them in. The people lived normally, if not more relaxed, from that day on with the help of the Gemini, and the town gave them names based off their natures; The boy, War, and the girl, Peace.

"And the Gemini continued to stay hidden, till one day War had heard something that would have been better if he didn't.

"Two woman were trading brick-bat at the gossip post when War walked by. They were talking of an elderly couple that lived near the edge of they forest where the Gemini had lived. They told that on the fourteenth day of the sixth month the couple had given birth to two children that they had lost in the forest. War recalled that the day the elderly couple had given birth to and lost their children was the day of his and Peace's birth, and the couple must have been their parents.

"Feeling betrayed, War murdered the elderly couple in their sleep that night.

"The next day, War told Peace of his actions, and Peace was angered by them, declaring war against War.

"The war lasted six years, many people dieing in the Gemini's skirmishes, until one day Peace gave in. She lay herself down at War's feet and ask that he kill her. War, his mind boggled with the war, did as she asked, and murdered her.

"War grieved his actions the moment he had done them, and finally killed himself.

"Legend says that War and Peace became Gods once the died, taking their rightful place in the sky, and a belief was spread that if you found children lost in the forest, if you helped them, Peace will reward you. But if you don't, War will murder you in your sleep.' "

"Well, that was stupid," was the first thing that came out of me mouth.

"Which part?" Jake asked. It seemed to me that he believed it.

"Well, all of it was pretty stupid, but mostly the part were Peace just asks War to kill her. I mean, She could of just waved a white flag, or something."

"Peace probably know that War would refuse to end the war until one of them was dead," Aqua said. I looked over at her, trying to tell if she was speaking her mind, or just trying to contradict me.

"Any way, we should really get to sleep. You guys have got a big day tomorrow, with training and all," Jake said, ending his sentence with a yawn to emphasize his point. I looked outside, and, holy cheese wad! It was already dark, though the moon shown bright.

"Mm, 'kay," I said. I was feeling a bit drowsy myself.

"Spark, your room's down the hall, the farthest to the right, and Aqua, yours is across from Sparks."

We trudged down the hall and into our rooms. I shut the door behind me and flopped down on my bed ready to fall asleep since I always wore pajamas (they are flame retardant, you know), and I was grateful. I was in a bed with blankets, not a barn with hay, and I slipped into a peaceful sleep.
