Prologue
"Let's do this one more time, shall we?" The doctor said with a menacing look. "There are five guards outside these doors. Each one of them is sworn to secrecy but I fear one of them has had it in his mind to sell this valuable information. Tell me what you hear."
The young boy looked up at him with his grey eyes. Flexing his fingers, he tugged at the handcuffs that kept him bound to the white sterile desk in the lab. He could easily free himself. He wouldn't even break a sweat. However, they knew he would do that should he get the chance. Hence the irritating iron 'crown' around his forehead. Closing his eyes, he focused. Not that he needed to. This was something he learnt to do a long time ago. Which is why it was a pain that of all his abilities, this was the only one that the 'crown' didn't block.
"Archie's thinking about the football game he has to play this coming week. He's been practising for over two months now." He said. "He's not your guy."
The doctor is thoughtful for some time before he urged him on.
"Karl is thinking about having sex with his girlfriend last night. He's showing me quite graphic descriptions." He continued with a wicked smile.
"Ugh, enough! Let's get back to what I asked you to do." The doctor said with a grunt.
"Are you sure? He could be your guy for all you know." He said.
"Well if he was our guy, you would have already told, right Michael?" The doctor asked with a angry growl.
Once upon a time, Michael would have been intimidated. Not anymore. He met the madman's stare head on.
"That depends." He simply said.
"On what?" The doctor asked. "You're not exactly in the position to make demands. Or have you forgotten?"
"No I haven't. But you seem to forget what I'm capable of, sometimes." He replied with a sigh.
He turned to face about sixteen degrees to his right.
"Vern. That's your guy. He's making a deal with the Germans to 'sell' me to them. 30 million. He'll give them our location first thing tomorrow morning and they'll burst your operation under the pretence of a rescue and they'll transport me to a location of their own. Basically, I'll be trading one devil for another." He said with his eyes closed.
"Good. We'll stop them before it even gets to that." The doctor said.
"Hurrah." He replied sarcastically.
"That wasn't so hard, now was it?" The doctor asked.
This caused him to laugh out loud in spite.
"You know, doc, this thing on my head won't be there forever." He said with a smirk. "Why don't you sleep on that tonight?"
