Chapter 8
He didn't know when he'd fallen asleep but he knew that he was dreaming. It started as any other dream would. Usually that's the part he would forget the moment he woke up. Right now was no different. He immediately began to forget it as his dream scape started to change. He found himself standing in a dark void place.
"Wow, you have very weird dreams." A voice said from behind him.
Turning, he watched as his brother materialised into the dream.
"How are you in my dream?" Mic asked curiously.
"It's one of the many things I seem to be able to do. The dream scape is an extension of a person's mind and psych and I am able to access every part of it. Including dreams." Michael replied. "In other words, this is a dream but it doesn't mean it isn't real. Come with me."
Mic watched as a door materialised next to Michael. There were a lot of questions he wanted to ask but he had a feeling that he would get them here. Taking a deep breath, he followed his twin through the door.

**Flashback**
"Are we there yet?" Little Mic asked as he fiddled with his seatbelt.
"Not yet, muffin. But don't you worry. We'll be there in no time." Came a lovely feminine voice.
She turned to face him. Her dark hair was pulled back in a ponytail and her green eyes were twinkling. Her smile faltered as she looked at her other son.
"Mike, honey, what's wrong?" She asked in a concerned voice.
"I don't feel well." Little Michael replied.
He was pale. Reaching out, his mother placed her palm on his forehead.
"Oh, honey, he's burning up!" She exclaimed to her husband.
They immediately started talking. The more they talked, the more the headache that little Michael was experiencing intensified. It felt so bad he though he would puke. Clutching his head with both hands, he wished they would all be quiet. He felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. He opened his eyes just a little bit to face his twin.
"Mike?" Little Mic said to him in concern.
He could tell there was something wrong. He could feel it deep down. His twin was in a lot of pain and he didn't know how to help.
"Don't worry, muffin. We're heading straight to the doctor now. Hang in there sweetheart." The mother said gently.
And yet it felt as if she'd said a thousand different things so loudly. He was hearing many voices at the same time and it was all overwhelming.
I hope he's okay.
I don't get it, the kid was okay five minutes ago.
Oh my poor baby.
What the hell is happening.
There were other voices too. Voices he didn't recognise but that were as loud as the voices he knew. And it suddenly became too much.
He cried out in pain. He just wanted it to stop. He never meant to hurt anyone. One moment, he had his eyes closed, clutching his head. The next moment, opening his eyes he found the entire world upside down. There was glass everywhere. And blood. Blood everywhere.
The paramedics had arrived minutes after. They'd quickly rushed everyone to the hospital. They say it was a miracle that he had walked out of without a scratch. Both boys had walked out unhurt but the younger twin had had some scratches and bruises. Michael had none. The doctors had doubted that he'd been in the same car. Unfortunately, not everyone had walked out unscathed. Their father had sustained some damage and broken bones. Their mother had been seriously injured. The doctors had tried to save her but it had been futile. She was gone by sunrise.
******************************
By the time Lily woke up the sun was already high in the sky. Her body was aching badly, not to forget the unbearable headache she was feeling. Pushing herself off the bed, she made her way to the bathroom where she took a shower and brushed her teeth. Returning to her room, she threw on a white pair of ripped jeans, mint green T-shirt and white sandals. Her Bob cut hair was too short to tie back so she simply put on a head band. She smiled at the thought that this was the first weekend away from home she'd ever had. Or ever dressed up. Did she just dress up? Why the hell did she just dress up? These thoughts made her turn red with embarrassment.
Shaking her head, she decided it was time she went and made some breakfast.
She had expected to be the first one up but she realized that there was already someone by the kitchen. At first she thought it was Mic but then she realized the hair was too long. He was reading the morning paper which she figured Josh must have brought in.
Man, they look so identical it's freaky, she thought. Are twins supposed to look that identical? Wait, wasn't he sick last night? He sure seems absolutely fine right now.
"You know staring at people is quite rude." He said without even looking up from the paper.
That totally startled her from her trance. Plus it totally embarrassed her.
"Sorry... I wasn't... I mean.." She stuttered.
She mentally castigated herself. What was wrong with her? She decided to start again.
"Michael, right? How are you feeling today?" She asked with a smile.
He didn't turn to face her. He didn't answer her. He just kept on reading that paper. She only saw him smile in amusement.
O - Kay, she thought.
She looked around the kitchen wondering what to make for breakfast. Or was it lunch? She was sure it was probably around noon. How long had he been up? Had he had anything to eat? She wanted to ask but she didn't know what to say. She didn't even know why she felt awkward around him.
"Don't worry. I've already had breakfast." He said, drawing her from her thoughts.
Wait, how had he known she wanted to ask him about breakfast?
"You were going to ask me about breakfast, right? I saw you looking around trying to figure out what to cook." He said.
That was an outright lie. He hadn't looked up at her from the moment she walked into the kitchen. She hesitated before saying anything. What the hell was going on? Could this guy read minds? Because if he could...
"Then what?" He asked, looking up at her for the first time. "If I can read your mind then what? What will you do?"
His question left her stunned because for starters he'd just confirmed that he could read minds. Also he hadn't said it in a menacing way. Quite the contrary. He'd said it with a drip of sadness in his voice. Before she could say anything, Mic walked into the kitchen.
"Oh hey, when did you guys get up?" He asked whilst stifling a yawn.
He walked to the fridge and, opening it, pulled out a carton of milk.
"Have you guys already eaten?" He asked.
"Uhm, I was about to make eggs." Lily replied.
"I've already had breakfast." Michael put in. "There's some by the microwave. The caretaker brought it over."
He was back to his paper. Watching him, Lily almost believed that their conversation never happened. But she knew it had and continuing with the conversation when he'd obviously dropped it would be pathetic. And now that he'd mentioned Josh, she figured it was best to go talk to him.
"I'll be right back." She said before walking off.
Leaving the two boys alone.
"You're mad." Michael said to his brother once Lily was out of ear shot.
"You think?" Mic shot back at him.
He'd remembered everything. Including how Michael had altered his brother's memory so he'd forget that he had abilities right before he'd been taken away.
"I did it to protect you." Michael said.
"You can't make those decisions for me, Michael. It's not fair!" Mic said.
He took a deep breath to calm himself.
"Look, I know you did what you thought was best for me and I appreciate that but how do you expect me to feel if you get yourself hurt in the process?" Mic asked.
Live with it.
It wasn't spoken aloud but Mic heard it just as loudly in his head.
"What did you just say to me?" Mic demanded.
Michael simply gave him a sad smile. Mic sighed aloud in exasperation.
"Let's just deal with whatever is happening right now. We can catch up on the last twelve years after." Mic said.
