Chapter 6
Two things happened at the same time. The first was that Lily came back with a tray of food, a warm smile. The next was that the back door suddenly burst open and a dozen armed men came flooding into the basement.
"Hands in the air!"
"Don't move!"
There were so many commands shouted at them all at once. Lily screamed and dropped the tray she was carrying. Mic froze. He knew they were here for HIM but he wouldn't let them touch him. He'd never been passionate about anything before this. But this was his twin. His soulmate.
Without thinking twice, he grabbed some syringes and rushed at them.
He didn't think this through. Of course he didn't. They were carrying guns and he was running straight to them. At least he had the element of surprise. They hadn't expected his attack and he managed to stab two of them before they recovered from their daze. Immediately one of them bashed him on the head with a gun barrel.
He fell over as he clutched his head in pain. Looking up, he found himself starring straight into the hallow barrel of the gun.
"I said don't move!" The man snapped in irritation.
"That's enough." Boomed a voice from the door.
He watched as an older grey haired man came into the basement. He was wearing a dark suite. His eyes her stern and hard. Mic immediately disliked him.
"You must be Micah, right?" He asked. When Mic didn't reply he simply carried on. "I'm Doctor Javier. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"What do you want?" Mic demanded.
"Child, there is so much you don't understand and so little time for me to explain." He began. "And it must all be confusing for you but you must believe me when i say I only have your best interest at heart. Your brother is not well. Even you can tell. Isn't that why you are trying to treat him? It's why we had to take him away, son."
"Don't you call me son! I am not letting you anywhere near him. If he really was sick you wouldn't have come here guns blazing. You wouldn't be trying to take him away by force." Mic snapped at him.
"You don't understand anything." The doctor began.
"I understand that my brother ran away from wherever you've been keeping him." Mic cut in.
"Is that what he told you?" He asked interest.
"He doesn't have to tell me anything." Mic said in determination. "So, if you want him, you'll have to go through me."
The man regarded him in amusement before responding.
"Very well then." He said with a sinister smile whilst turning to one of his soldiers. "Kill them."
Mic watched in horror as one of the soldiers threw a screaming Lily down besides him. She looked up at him with fear in her eyes. He didn't know how to save her, he couldn't even save his brother. He was forced to watch as the soldiers pointed their guns at them and fire.
It's strange how things always seem to slow down when one was facing death. Mic could see the bullets fly towards them and he was resigned to his fate. His only regret was that he had dragged Lily into this. Except something strange happened.
Inches from hitting them, the bullets froze mid air. He could see shock register on everyone's face. For some strange reason he wasn't shocked. Instead, he felt something call to him. A faint hum that urged him to turn around.
He watched as the the figure on the bed slowly rose from the bed. Although rose was an understatement. It was more like levitate off the bed. Like an invisible force was helping him to get up. The i.v codes crumbled away from his hands, turning to dust. He was awake now and he was very pissed.
With a flick of his right hand, all the soldiers, together with the older man and their bullets were thrown back by an invisible force. They all went through the walls, taking them down and leaving a big hole where the walls used to be. 'Great, if Lily's parents weren't awake before, they definitely are now' was the first thing that came to Mic's mind. And he was right.
"Lily! What the hell was that sound?" Came Doctor Keller's voice from somewhere outside her daughter's room.
Lily's expression went from shock to panic. Forget that there was a humongous hole in the wall and dead soldiers everywhere. Forget even the fact that Mic's supposedly dead twin had come back from the dead, made his way to her house and was somehow floating on air. Forget also the fact that Mic's brother had superpowers ( Holy Molly he really has superpowers) and Mic though a bit surprised wasn't on the brink of freaking out like she was. The real problem her parents were going to have with her was that she had invited not one but two boys into the house ( although to be fair the other one totally invited himself) and she had done it without permission. She may be too old to get grounded but she knew she'd be in a whole lot of trouble should they walk into the basement.
Don't move and don't make a sound.
The voice softly spoken like a whisper into her mind slowly spread like a virus in her system. It became a command. One her brain involuntarily sent to her entire body. She heard the door to her room burst open.
"She's still asleep. Huh, how could she sleep through all that racket." Came her father's voice.
Still asleep? She thought. What the hell is he talking about? She turned to Mic who was watching his twin. The twin seemed to be in deep concentration whilst his head was turned in the direction of her room.
"Don't wake her." Came her mother's voice. "Let's check the basement. Quietly."
She heard footsteps. Then the latch door that separated her room from the basement was thrown open.
Not a sound.
She couldn't find her voice and she was frozen in place. She held her breath, preparing for the berating she was about to get. She watched as her parents came into the basement, flashlights in hand. They scanned the entire room. For a brief moment her mother's flashlight illuminated where she and Mic were before her mother slowly walked away.
"Well that's strange. I'm sure the noise I heard was coming from here." She said to her husband. "Oh well, let's go before we wake Lily up."
Huh, what's going on? Lily thought. Did her parents not see the big mess that was in the basement? Did they not see them or the big hole in the wall or the boy who was levitating above the bed in the basement that they were walking past? It seemed they didn't because they simply left. She listened as their footsteps retreated. It was then that she felt whatever force had been keeping her in place let off. She crawled closer to where Mic was.
"Mic?" She said to him in confusion.
He was still watching his twin.
Her eyes immediately widened in realization. There was no doubt about it. The twin had somehow made her parents to see everything as it had been before all of this. He'd even made them believe she was fast asleep. She immediately looked at him in fear as he slowly began to descend. He landed perfectly on the bed and for a moment his eyes were fixed on hers. Then he fell over.
Mic immediately got up and rushed over to his twin. He hadn't fallen unconscious yet but he could see that's what was about to happen. He had seemed stronger two seconds ago but now as he helped him to sit up he could see it had all been a façade. He was still burning up, albeit his temperature had gone down a little. It just hadn't gone down enough. He tried to get him to lie back but he refused.
"We need to leave... Shape shifter's coming." He said weakly.
Mic didn't need to be told twice.

He slowly made his way towards his master. There were dead bodies everywhere and he did his best to avoid them. He hadn't dropped his disguise yet but as he slowly approached the somewhat injured man he knew it wouldn't be necessary. So he peeled back his skin and his own features reappeared.
"You're late." Was the first thing the doctor said he saw him.
Well that's rude, Zee thought but he didn't dare say that to him.
"I came here as soon as I got your message." He said instead.
"It seems I underestimated him." The doctor said.
Yeah no kidding, Zee thought in amusement. Leave it to Michael to kill them all with their very own guns. Well, not all the soldiers were dead but they were injured. He had no doubt there would be more casualties by the time they concluded all this.
