Chapter 5

Zee had thought this would be easy. Again he had been proven wrong. He had stolen one twin's face and headed to their home hoping the other twin would show up. Obviously he had underestimated him. The father was a fool, unfortunately. He hadn't even noticed that his 'son' was an impostor. Of course he wouldn't have had he been smarter. His ability allowed him to not only steal a target's face but also their most recent memories. That was what made him the best soldier. He had been made to be the best. Of course he knew better than to underestimate Michael, the twin he was here to retrieve.

** Flashback **

He watched as the doctor entered his room. For months he had interacted with this man and for months he had learned to trust him.

"Hello, Zee." The doctor had said.

Zee wasn't his name but it had been what the doctor had called him. Hence he had made it his name.

"Hello." He had responded.

"I take it your training has been going well." The doctor had said matter of factly.

"Yes." He had said.

One word answers. That's what he'd been talk, to get straight to the point.

"Good. There's someone I'd like you to meet. He's like you but I believe you're stronger than him." The doctor had said. "I'd like to test out that theory."

He'd given a firm nod before following the doctor as he walked out of the room. They'd soon made their way to another room. This one had more security than usual. Way more. It had made him a bit uneasy but he was forced to remain calm as they'd walked through the door. This room had a table and some chairs. It was a very cold and unwelcoming room. Seated by the table was a boy his age. He had chin length wavy ebony hair and grey eyes. There was an iron crown like device on his head. The moment they walked in, the boy eyed him warily.

He knows, was what he thought. He didn't know how but the boy knew about his ability.

"X." The doctor had said addressed the dark haired boy.

"My name is Michael." The boy had said in defiance.

"Your name is what I say it is." The doctor had snapped.

For a moment, Zee had seen the pen in front of him spin in mid air for a second before it came crashing back down. He had watched as the boy had keeled over in pain. He hadn't understood what was going on but he had realized the boy also had abilities like him. He was curious as to what else he could do but he doubted he would get his answer. The boy had raised his head again and he had noted that he had a nosebleed.

"Well that was pointless." The doctor had said in disinterest. "Zee, let's get on with it. Shall we?"

He had hesitated. Something about the way that boy had looked at him had frozen him in his seat.

"Zee. What are you waiting for?" The doctor had snapped at him, breaking him free of the trance he'd been under.

Standing up, he had made his way towards the boy. He didn't want to. The boy scared him witless for some reason but there was no defying his master. Slowly, he had reached out with his right hand and placed it on the boy's cheek.

He was still unfamiliar with his ability hence it startled him every time he watched his skin peel back and his features shift to become those of the person he had come into contact with. In this case, they had become the boy's. Of course there was more to his power than simply that. With the contact came the transfer of memories. He saw flashes of memories that suffocated him. Visions of death and pain. Flashes of torturous experiments. He had immediately broken contact but it was too late. Those memories would stay with him forever. The only good thing was that he had figured out the boy's abilities. Telepathy, telekinesis and precognition. He had even seen instances of levitation and he figured there were other abilities that the boy had. Some he managed to conceal very well and others he was yet to manifest.

With time and further contact, he had established that he was immune to the boy's telepathy. Which was a good thing because like him the boy had the ability to control people. The only difference was that where he needed to have physical contact with the person he wanted to control, the boy didn't. Where Zee's victim could immediately tell they were being controlled, Michael's could not. Michael could make people jump off the building to their deaths and he could make them believe they wanted it. They would never know he had messed with their mind.

He had witnessed it once. The boy had tried to run away. During that day, Zee had been doing target practice. He had learned to master his abilities but now he needed to learn to use them on the battlefield. He'd heard the commotion, then he'd heard something explode. He'd seen people flying in mid air. Almost as if a bomb had exploded but he'd seen no fire. Moments later he'd seen the dark haired boy walk through the now large hole on the side of the building. A soldier had walked forward pointing a gun at him.

"Stop right there." The soldier had said in a voice filled with fear.

"No." The boy had said. "You don't want to shoot me. You want to shoot yourself."

He hadn't said it in menacing voice. It had been a warm, calm and gentle voice. Yet he had seen the soldier point the gun at his own head and shoot. He had watched it all in horror, frozen in place until one of the soldiers poked him and told him he had to take the boy down. He had known Michael couldn't get into his head but he was still afraid. Calming his nerves, he had walked forward, gun pointed at the other boy.

"You can't control me like you can control them. So just - just stop fighting. It'll be a lot easier for the both of us." He had told him.

The boy had looked at him with an emotionless expression. The next thing he remembered was that something had hit him at the back of his head and he'd passed out immediately. He had found out later that the boy had used his telekinesis to knock him out unconscious. Hence he had been determined to never let his guard down and to prove that he was stronger that him.

******************************

"What are you doing over there kiddo? Expecting someone?" The old man asked with a smirk.

He resisted the urge to give him the stink eye. He had to maintain character. So he smiled, even though he cringed on the inside.

"Nothing, dad. Just looking." He said with the fake smile plastered on his face.

"Ha, you sure it doesn't have anything with a certain blond lassie?" The old man persisted.

He had just about lost his mind when suddenly the phone in his pocket chimed. Taking it out, he looked at the message.

Target spotted at White resident.

"Are you kidding me? All this work for nothing?!" He said in annoyance.

He immediately turned on his heel. The old man tried to question him but he simply put his hand on the old man's temple and watched as he fell down unconscious after he urged him to sleep.

With that, he left.
