Chapter 16
Mic watched as a little girl materialized from the darkness. She was a skinny thing, her short brunette curls complemented her chocolate skin beautifully. However, he noticed her brown eyes narrowed suspiciously at him. Even her posture suggested that she was expecting something crazy to
Wait, she isn't sure if I'm Michael or not. He thought to himself. Speaking of my brother, where is he anyways?
He decided to maintain a calm and confident demeanour. If they were confused about which twin he was, he was not about to make it easy for them.
He watched as another figure emerged from the shadows. An oh so familiar red head.
"I see you caught one." The red head said to the girl. "Let's find out which one you caught."
He looked Mic in the eye as he approached. For a moment, Mic's confidence wavered.
Michael, where are you? He asked mentally but got no response.
Zee reached out with his right hand, intent on reading his memory. He placed his palm on Mic's hand. Only nothing happened.
Zee widened his eyes in shock as he immediately withdrew his hand. For a moment he was confused. Neither twin should have been able to resist his power. Unless ... Was this Michael? Had freeing himself of his constrains unleashed his power full force?
Mic only narrowed his eyes curiously at him. He expected something to happen like the time at the library but nothing did. This confused him greatly. Was there something else going on here that he wasn't aware of?
Zee, on the other hand wanted to be sure of his assumptions so he decided to give it another go. He reached out again, keen on reading the twin's memories at all cost.
Before his hand made contact again he was suddenly lifted off the ground and pinned to the roof.
"I don't think so." Came Michael's voice.
They all watched as he appeared. The entire time his eyes were on Zee but when he came into the spotlight his eyes fell on the little girl in an intimidating manner.
This caused the little girl to whimper in surprise. For a moment Mic saw the shadows swirling around her extend towards Michael. Only they stopped as the girl grasped the side of her head and cried out in pain.
Whatever force had been keeping Mic glued to the spot also disappeared. Of course that was not his immediate concern.
"Michael." He called out to his twin.
His brother did not seem to hear him at first as his gaze was still fixed on the little girl who was still writhing in pain.
So he tried again.
"Michael!" He called out, a little louder this time.
This caught his attention. Michael turned to him in confusion. When he did, the little girl stopped whimpering in pain however she immediately fainted.
She's just a child, Mic said to his brother mentally.
And? Michael asked back, still confused
And?! You're hurting her! Please stop. Mic pleaded.
What?! Why would I do that? She works for them. Michael responded, his eyes narrowing in annoyance.
Because she probably didn't have a choice. Mic suggested whilst giving his brother a little smile.
Zee watched the two brothers stare at each other, although one was doing the staring and the other was now practically glaring. He did not know what was happening but he saw it as an opportunity.
Michael was momentarily distracted.
Zee had only noticed moments before that - whilst he had been magically glued to the ceiling - he could still move his hands and that was all he needed.
He reached for the gun he always kept on him and aimed. This time he had no illusion about which of them was Michael. Whilst they were still distracted he fired.
What he had not anticipated was that he would fail to hit his target.
After all, this was Michael. Michael was all- knowing.
As the bullet stood frozen in midair, inches away from hitting him, Michael turned his attention to Zee. His eyes were blazing with the anger and hate he felt towards him, so much that the bullet crumbled away without falling back to the ground.
He watched him rose off the ground and float towards him. Michael stretched out his hand, his fingers curling almost as if he was grasping something. However, Zee suddenly found himself unable to breath.
"You are always over confident but the truth is you are nothing." Michael said in a cold voice. "So let me show you just how insignificant you are compared to me."
Helpless and suspended in midair, all Zee could do was claw at his throat whilst gasping for air however he did not want to give Michael the satisfaction of knowing he had won.
Michael, on the other hand, did not care for mind games. At that moment all he could think about was the pain and torture he had endured for years. All the anger and hatred he had kept inside now consumed him. At that moment he saw nothing - no one - else except this boy he was determined to kill.
He felt something tug at his subconscious mind, call out to him, but he pushed it away. He cared for nothing else at the moment. All he cared for was making Zee suffer.
He felt his anger slowly dissipate. He could not understand how but he soon realised that the murderous intent he had had was now gone.
Sure, he still hated Zee but he found he could not bring himself to kill him. This annoyed him very much, so much that he decided that if he could not kill him, he would at least inflict some pain.
He released him and watched as he fell all the way back to the floor. There was a distinguishable crunch as Zee fell back to the crunch. He had obviously broken a couple of bones but Michael had no doubt he was still alive. This he found very annoying.
He hovered in the air for a few seconds longer before he allowed himself to float back to solid ground, landing effortlessly on the ground only a few inches from where Zee now lay unconscious. He contemplated what to do with the redhead as much as he tried to figure out what had stopped him from killing him.
Sure, he would let him live but there was no way he would let him go. He was dangerous enough as it was.
He felt a gentle hand on his shoulder and he turned to see his brother eyeing him in concern.
"Are you okay?" Mic asked him.
"Am I ..." He began but immediately shook his head in astonishment. "Huh, leave it to you, little brother, to flip the switch on me when I should be the one asking you that."
His expression changed from one of amusement to one of concern.
"They didn't hurt you, did they?" He asked.
Mic shook his head in response.
"I'm fine, thanks to you." Mic said. "I don't know what you did but it sure surprised him."
"What are you talking about?" Michael asked, his brow raised in confusion.
