Chapter 12

Forget everything.

"Lily?" Came Josh's voice, breaking her from her daydream.

"Huh?" She asked in a startled voice.

Closing her eyes, she shook her head to clear her thoughts.

"I was asking if you told your parents you were staying over for the weekend." He repeated.

"I am?" She asked in surprise.

She furrowed her brow. She didn't remember making that decision. In fact, now that she thought about it, she couldn't even remember why she had come here.

Forget everything.

"Aah!" She cried out, both heads clutching the sides of her head as she felt an unbearable headache take root.

"Hey, are you alright?" Josh asked in concern.

"I - I don't..." She began but suddenly stopped when a noise caught her ears. "Do I hear propellers? Is there an airstrip close by?"

"Uh - not that I know of. No." He replied with a confused look.

Lily turned in the direction of the noise. As she watched the helicopter zoom into focus, she couldn't help but feel uneasy. Part of her understood what was about to happen but when she tried to dig deeper into her thoughts to get the answers, that headache only grew worse. In the end, she decided to forget about it.

That meant she was left facing the current problem. The incoming air traffic.

Less than two minutes later, they both watched as the helicopter landed a couple of feet away. The deafening sound of the propellers forced her to throw both hands over her ears. Moments later, she watched as a number of armoured trucks also drove into the clearing.

"How the hell did they get here!?" She asked Josh out loud. "I thought we locked the gates!"

Whatever response he was about to muster was cut short when they saw an older gentleman exit the helicopter and begin to approach them.

Something about him seems quite familiar, she thought to herself but when she tried to remember why he seemed familiar, that headache cane back. There was only one unfamiliar face that accompanied him. A redhead who gave her a weird look. There was definitely something about him that was creepy.

Of course that only worsened when he gave her a simultaneously knowing and sinister smile.

"Well this quite familiar." The older man said over the loud noise of the propellers. "But wait, something's missing."

He looked around after regarding her strangely before he went on.

"Where are they?" He asked as he looked her straight in the eye.

"They? Who are you talking about?" She asked in confusion.

"I don't have time for this." The sinister nan said before he turned to his redheaded accomplice. "Take care of this."

This only made the redhead's smile grow even more sinister, if that was even possible. As he slowly walked towards her, she felt her innate survival instinct force her to back away from him. She hadn't seen him before but for some reason every muscle in her body was screaming at her to get as far away from him as possible. And that didn't make a lick of sense. It was as if her body was acting on autopilot to some command imprinted into her mind.

As he took another step towards her, Josh suddenly stepped in front of her in an act to shield her from him.

"I don't know who you people are but I won't let you lay a finger on Miss White." He said, his voice filled with determination.

A normal person would have been intimidated by his six foot four tall and strong marine physique but not this guy. Rather than cower in fear,he simply smiled at Josh in one moment and before she could react, he took out a gun and pulled the trigger.

A high pitched scream sounded and it took minutes before Lily realised it was her very own. She watched in horror as Josh's form crumbled to the ground.

"Now, sweetheart, I have no desire to use guns. They're not as effective but I will use them if I have to." The redhead said as he careful tucked the gun back into its pouch by the side of his ribcage.

He knelt besides her and regarded her for a moment as her form shook whilst she cradled the caretaker's head in her arms. Grabbing her chin, he forced her to look up at him.

But that was when he realised something else was wrong.

"You have no memory of either of them." He said matter of factly although he was quite surprised.

"What? How is that possible?" The other gentleman demanded in an annoyed tone.

"I don't know." The redhead replied, his eyes never once leaving Lily's. "Unless - no. That's not possible. But what else could it be?"

"You're not making sense, Zee." The older gentleman said in an irritated voice.

This seemed to state the redhead out of his daze. With a worry filled expression, he turned and eyed the older gentleman.

"I think - I think He did this." The redhead said in a quiet voice. "It only makes sense. If he can control people and make them see whatever, maybe he can..."

"Don't be absurd!" The older gentleman snapped. "If Michael could erase minds then we'd already know about it."

Zee resisted the urge to laugh at him. He didn't know Michael much but he understood that he was very powerful and given that the entire time he'd been kept at the facility, his powers had been kept in check. He had no doubt that the telepath had far more powerful abilities than he ever let on and he was staring at the evidence straight on. The blond girl had no memory of the telepath. Or his less impressive brother for that matter which shouldn't have been possible given that her mother had memories depicting them together.

"Maybe the girl needs motivation to remember." He continued with an evil grin. "Bring her along. I'm sure she'd want to meet her dearest mommy and daddy."

With that, he turned and walked back to the helicopter. Zee turned back to Lily, who was still staring at him, her eyes transfixed in a trance.

"Come with us and don't make a sound. Don't fight, don't scream and don't cause any trouble for us." He said to her, his hand still on her chin and his intense green eyes staring straight into her blue ones.
