Epilogue - Part 1
Well, hello! Now, I know I said I finished this story, but how could I end it without their 2.5 babies? So here you go!
This epilogue will be divided in 3 parts, which I will post periodically, and THEN I will officially have completed this story!
Now, about the premise. Let's just assume I know all the legalities and official rules, because I don't. But if we all can put up with ITV, we can put up with whatever research I've done to write these parts, haha!
Enjoy! And as always, I love long comments ;)
....
Raavi clasped her hands and eagerly waited in the lobby, while Shiva tucked his hands in his pockets.
"Will she like us, Shiva?"
"Koi shaq, meri chipkali?"
2 years into their marriage, Raavi and Shiva had decided that they were ready to expand their family. They didn't exactly feel prepared enough to go through pregnancy yet, but Shiva had already submitted the applications for adoption, pleasantly surprising Raavi on her birthday.
The families threw quite a few tantrums, questioning them on their choice of adopting, asking them if it was a case of infertility, or whether they were taking this decision in haste.
In the end, the families had to agree, because as stubborn as they were, Shiva and Raavi were equally stubborn on adopting a child and bringing him or her into this family.
So, after months of procedures and visits by officers, they finally received the letter, granting them permission to go through with the adoption, on Shiva's birthday.
The adoption centre closest to their house, wasn't in fact an adoption centre. It was an old age home, with a sole child in their custody, whose parents and grandparents had passed away in an unfortunate accident.
The child wasn't fortunate enough to be taken home, from a place where couples left their own parents in the care of another person. But, this time, Shiva and Raavi were the child's lucky charm.
They had been chosen as parents of a 4-year old baby girl.
"I really hope she does." Raavi looked through the entrance to see any signs of her arrival, "Humari ek beti hone waali hai, Shiva!"
"She will, darling. She will." Shiva put an arm around her shoulder and kissed her temple, just as 2 tiny pigtails poked around from behind the wall.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Pandya, sorry to keep you waiting!" Caroline made a few notes on her clipboard, "This is Janhavi."
The supervisor pointed behind her, but there was no child in their view. Just two pink clips and a pair of honey-brown eyes peeking slyly.
"Janhavi, you have visitors. Come, see!"
Raavi and Shiva waited eagerly, looking at each other, as a tiny, fair girl in a white shirt and denim overalls walked out, her hair pulled into 2 coconut tree ponytails, her hands clasped behind her back.
The little girl stood in front of Shiva and Raavi, looking up at them curiously.
Raavi sat down on her knees, looking up at Shiva and then at Janhavi with a broad smile, "Hi Janhavi! I'm Raavi!"
Janhavi waved back with a tiny smile, as Raavi held Shiva's hand, who mimicked her actions and sat down at her level, "And this is my bhoothnath."
Janhavi burts into fits of giggles, covering her mouth with her tiny palms. "Bhoothnath?"
"Ae chipkali !" Shiva grumbled, "Bacche ke saamne kaisi impression bana rahi hai!"
"Chipkali?!" The little girl burst into laughter, clutching her tummy.
Shiva and Raavi exchanged a look, before breaking out into fits of laughter, the tinkling sounds of a child's laughter music to their ears.
"Okay, we'll start again." Shiva raised his palms in defeat. "Hi, I'm Shiva, aur ye meri wife hai, Raavi."
"Hi." Janhavi said, waving her palms at them.
"Do you remember us? You stayed at our house for a week."
The little girl nodded, as an attendant brought out a single pink suitcase.
"Aap mere new mumma-papa banoge?" Janhavi asked curiously, and Raavi nodded in affirmation.
"Toh aap mujhe last time lene kyu nahi aaye? Mai wait kar rahi thi aapka."
Raavi saw her baby girl's face contort into a frown, and she looked up at the supervisor, whose expression told Raavi that the earlier set of parents never showed up to take her home.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart." Raavi placed a hand on her cheek, "Woh hum aapke room ki shopping karne chale gaye, aur hum bhool gaye. Maaf kardo?"
Janhavi thought for a few seconds, before her frown turned into an illuminating smile. "It's okay!" She exclaimed, before turning towards her caretaker.
"Lata Aunty, dekho, mera bhi ghar hai! I have a home, aunty!"
Janhavi turned towards Raavi and Shiva, a question lingering on her mind. "Can I give you a huggie?"
Shiva exchanged a look with Raavi and welcomed their baby girl with open arms, pulling her into the most comforting bear hug, happiness plastered on all their faces.
The supervisor asked them to sign a few documents and papers, before legally handing over the guardianship to Shiva and Raavi, who were over the moon.
They were now parents to 4-year old Janhavi.
Janhavi Pandya.
"Do you want to say goodbye to all your Nana-Nanis?" Shiva placed a palm on her head, and she nodded.
"But," She pouted, "Aap mujhe unse milne le aaoge na?"
Shiva smiled and nodded, as she skipped away to say her goodbyes and bring her Looney Tunes backpack, while Shiva and Raavi waited for her eagerly.
He turned towards his chipkali, who had tears of happiness in her eyes, and he pulled her into a hug before she broke down into tears.
"I'm just so happy, Shiva."
"Me too, sweetheart. Me too. Our baby girl is a darling."
Shiva kissed her head just as Janhavi trotted her way towards them. Shiva asked her if he could carry her bag for her, which she gladly complied.
"Let's go?"
Janhavi looked up at Raavi and Shiva, who stood their with their open palms, and she gave them her brightest smile, holding their hands and walking towards her new home with excitement and joy.
A new chapter of their lives awaited them all.
.....
Suman waited near the entrance of Pandya Nivaas with the aarti ka thaali, eagerly waiting to meet her grandchild.
When Shiva and Raavi had earlier expressed their wish of adopting a child, she was a bit apprehensive, but eventually agreed because her children looked very happy and excited. And when they told her they were adopting a baby girl, she was over the moon.
And so, she waited in the aangan to meet the little child, just as she heard the sounds of a vehicle stopping at the gate.
Suman quickly moved towards the door, in time to see Shiva and Raavi stand at the door, but not the child anywhere in sight.
"Chutki kaha hai?" Suman asked confused, noticing two little feet hiding behind Raavi, a smile creeping up on her face.
"Janhavi, baby," Raavi put a hand on Janhavi, who was hiding behind her mother, and gently pulled her forward, "see, this is Dadi."
Janhavi peeked over from behind Raavi's legs, and watched as Suman smiled and waved at her, slowly moving to stand next to Raavi.
"Dadi?" The little girl asked, looking up at Shiva.
"Like how this is your mumma," He pointed at Raavi, "she is my mumma."
Janhavi looked at Suman curiously, meeting her for the first time, eyeing her wheelchair.
"Hi Dadi." She gave her a small wave, and Suman was over the moon at hearing her grandchild calling her Dadi for the first time.
"Isne mujhe Dadi bola. Ae, Siva. Dekh, meri Chutki ne mujhe Dadi bola!" Suman exclaimed excitedly, almost in tears.
"Dadi," Janhavi poked the controls on Suman's wheelchair, "Aap chair pe kyu baithe ho? Mujhe aapko huggie dena hai."
Shiva and Raavi exchanged a pensive look before Suman replied for them, "Dadi ke pair kaam nahi karte na, isliye chair pe baithna padta hai."
"Tu mujhe aise hi gale lag jaa." Suman welcome her with open arms, and Janhavi gave her a tight hug with a bright smile.
"It's okay, Dadi. Mai aapke leg ko massage kar dungi, aapka leg okay ho jaayega!"
Suman patted her head and gave her a kiss, before making her stand between her parents and warding of all evil, praying and asking them to take blessings of the Lord, before entering the house.
Janhavi looked at the huge house that she had stayed in a few weeks back. It was just herself, Raavi and Shiva at that time. And now, there were way too many people in the house, of which she recognised none.
She quickly hid behind Raavi, getting scared after seeing so many people, and Shiva patted her head.
"Janhavi, don't be scared." He gently said, and she peeked just slightly, "Like Dadi is my mumma, these are my brothers."
Shiva pointed at Gautam, Dev and Krish, introducing them one by one, followed by Dhara and Rishita. But Janhavi looked very scared of meeting them, as if she could sense something was not good about them.
"Aap iss house mein stay karte ho?" Janhavi asked, slowly moving to stand next to Shiva and hugging his leg instead.
"Nahi beta, hum sabka alag ghar hai, Krish Chachu humare saath rehte hai. Aapke mummy papa yaha Dadi ke saath rehte hai." Gautam said, and Janhavi nodded, hiding behind Shiva when Dhara tried to talk to her.
"It's okay, baby." Raavi sat down next to her, and the little girl hugged Raavi, frightened, "I know seeing so many people is scary. It's okay."
Eventually, she opened up a little, waving her hands and smiling when the people that were her immediate family handed her a few toys as her welcome gift, offering to show her the house and she followed them happily.
A few minutes later, Raavi held Janhavi's hand and showed her the most awaited part of the house.
"Ye aapka room hai. Ready?" Raavi asked, and Janhavi nodded excitedly. "Papa, door open kardo Janhavi ke liye."
Shiva opened the door and revealed the most adorable room to exist. A single white accent wall painted with rainbows and birds, a single bed rested agsint it while the rest of the walls drowned in a pastel pink shade, the room was set with white furniture and a window that opened up to the gardens below, a simple cupboard, study desk, chest of drawers and bedside lamp as its finishing touch.
Janhavi looked at the room and excitedly hopped around, opening the drawers, jumping on her bed and twirling in the middle of the room.
"Do you like it?"
"I LOVE IT!" Janhavi ran and hugged their legs, before opening her backpack to set her toys.
"Papa help kar de?" Shiva asked, opening her backpack and removing her books and toys.
"Mumma will put all your clothes in the cupboard, okay sweetie?" Raavi offered, and Janhavi nodded, instructing Shiva where to keep her teddy bears and bunny rabbits, many of them making their permanent spot on her bed.
Once they had set up the room together, Raavi kept a set of pajamas for Janhavi on the bed, "Hum bohot door drive karke aaye hai. You want to take a shower?"
Janhavi simply nodded, and Raavi patted her head. "Mumma nehlaade aapko?"
She noticed Janhavi make an unsure face, shying away slightly.
"Feeling shy?"
Janhavi nodded slightly, and Raavi smiled softly at her before turning to Shiva. "Papa, aap bahar jaao, please."
Shiva nodded and closed the door behind him, as Raavi took out a spare towel and set of clothes from her room and returned, "Chalo, Mumma will also come. Okay?"
The little chubby girl blinked twice, before following Raavi to the bathroom, where Raavi had filled the bathtub with warm water.
Undressing herself, Raavi stepped into the bathtub, the warm water soothing her muscles that she didn't even know were caught up. Since her baby girl felt shy, she figured that if she saw her 'new mumma' take the first step, she'd feel a little more comfortable than before.
Janhavi looked on curiously, before moving to stand next to Raavi, motioning for her to help her with her own dress, and Raavi complied, her little ball of sunshine stepping into the shower with her.
A warm soapy shower and many giggles later, Raavi and Janhavi stepped out in matching bathrobes and towels wrapped around their head, as Raavi dressed her sunshine in her unicorn pajamas for the night, a knock on the door diverted their attention.
"Ho gaya aap dono ka, toh dinner khaane chale? Dadi ne specially aap ke liye khaana banaya hai." Shiva booped Janhavi's nose.
"See, all soft-soft!" Janhavi exclaimed, poking her skin and Shiva ruffled her hair, "Very nice!"
Janhavi skipped her way down the stairs towards the dining area, as Raavi chuckled and set her clothes aside. Shiva pouted and pulled Raavi by her waist.
"Muh kyu banaya hai?" Raavi giggled, pinching his cheeks.
"Mujhe toh kabhi itne pyaar se shower ke liye nahi bulaati hai." Shiva fiddled with the belt on her robe, and she swatted his hand away.
"Liar! Bas attention nahi mili hai tujhe pure din, isliye itna drama, hai na?" She kissed his cheek, and quickly dressed herself before giving him a kiss.
"I still love you, okay?"
Shiva shook his head and smiled to himself as they all moved to settle down at the dining table, where Raavi brought the pav-bhaji and masala rice on a plate for Janhavi.
"Hungry, sweetheart?" Raavi asked, as Janhavi eyed the food.
"Aaaah!" She opened her mouth, and Raavi lovingly fed her all the food until she proudly said that her 'tummy was soooo full'.
Soon enough, it was bedtime, and Raavi and Shiva took her to her room.
"Janhavi, darling," Shiva sat down on his knees, "You don't be scared, okay? Mumma and Papa's room is right here, see?" He pointed to the room immediately beside her room. "Agar raat ko neend nahi aaye, toh Papa-Mumma ke paas aa jaana, okay?"
"I am a brave girl!" Janhavi declared, pointing at her non-existent muscles, and Shiva ruffled her hair, as Raavi led her and tucked her into bed.
"Janhavi," Raavi kissed her forehead, as Shiva sat down beside her on the bed, "Mumma and Papa love you very much, okay?"
"Okay. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, darling." Shiva kissed her hand and turned on the night lamp, closing the door slightly behind him as Raavi followed.
Once they had settled in for the night, both of them had loopy smiles on their face, immediately noticeable to anyone looking at them.
"Janu kitni pyaari hai na?" Raavi asked, putting her arms around his torso.
"Janu?" Shiva smiled, "I like that. Cute hai."
"I'm so happy, Shiva!"
"She's a darling. Maa se kehke nazar utarwana padega."
"Excuse me, I'm your darling."
"Tu meri Darling No.2 bann jaa."
"Khadoos bhoothnath! Hmph! Pyaar hi nahi karta mujhse-"
"Ye thoda zyaada ho gaya, chipkali. Taang kheech raha tha na."
"Tu na, mujhse baat mat kar-"
"Are you awake?"
Shiva and Raavi got distracted by the little voice and turned on the night light, and found their little Janhavi standing at the door, rubbing her eyes, holding her rainbow blanket and teddy bear.
"Yes, sweetheart. What's wrong?"
"Mai aapke paas so jaau please?" She rubbed her eyes again, walking to the bed post.
Raavi and Shiva patted the space between them, and Janhavi climbed into their bed, snuggling herself between them with a content smile on her face, engulfed in soft kisses and snuggles as she fell asleep comfortably for the first time in a very lo time.
.....
Raavi snuggled herself into Shiva's arms, in just his shirt and tracks, falling into a deep slumber. After days of being apart, they had finally got some time to themselves, when Suman ushered them out of the house for some 'me-time' while she took care of Janu.
Shiva took her out on a date, nothing elaborate, just a movie and dinner, but even that felt special, considering the fact that ever since Janu had come into their lives, they hadn't spent enough time with each other as they used to, just the two of them.
Of course, they loved their darling daughter to bits, and this was a huge change for all of them, but every time they tried to get closer, they'd be interrupted by her, in the funniest way with the most ridiculous reason, which ended up with Janhavi sleeping in their room between them.
Today, she had finally learned to sleep all by herself, and Raavi was so proud of her, she had decided to bake her a chocolate cake when she woke up the next day, for being such a good girl.
Not forgetting to add extra chocolate chips as a thank you, for giving them alone time, which allowed Shiva to make love to her in many different ways after so long.
But, the sounds of distressed whimpers had woken Raavi up, and she tried to check if it was Shiva, poking his cheek.
"Shiva?"
"Hmm?" He snored, hugging Raavi closer to himself. "Chudail. Sone nahi deti. So jaa."
A few seconds later, the distressed whimpers turned into loud cries, and Raavi sprung up, realising the sounds were coming from Janhavi's room.
She ran towards her room, turning on the night light.
Janhavi looked like she was asleep, but she was thrashing against the bed, crying in distress. Poor baby is having a nightmare, Raavi gasped as she rushed to sit nex to her.
"Janu, sweetheart?" Raavi took her into her arms, patting her cheek, "Janu? Bacche, aankhein kholo!"
A few seconds later, Janhavi suddenly opened her eyes, looking around in fear and crying, scrambling into Raavi's lap, "That monster will take me!"
"No, there's no monster. Koi monster nahi hai, baby." Raavi hugged Janhavi, patting her head. "It's okay, Mumma is here. It's okay."
Janhavi looked up at Raavi, and registered her presence, before hugging her tightly and sobbing,
"That black monster will take me!"
"Mumma is here, baby. Koi monster nahi aayega. Mumma won't let any monster take you."
"Woh black monster mujhe aapse door le jaayega! "
Raavi looked at where Janhavi was pouting, but there was nothing in that corner of the room, except her bookshelf.
"There's no monster, Janu. See-" Raavi tried to show her, but she just hugged Raavi tighter.
"Kya hua?" Shiva stood at the door, rubbing his eyes and adjusting his vest and shorts.
Raavi hugged Janhavi, and signed to Shiva that she had been crying, which immediately put Shiva on alert, as he sat down worriedly in front of them on the bed.
Bura sapna, Raavi mouthed, and Shiva simply caressed Janhavi's head.
"Bad monster!" Janhavi sobbed, burying her head in Raavi's chest.
"Shhh. Mumma and Papa are here. No monster can take you from us." She whispered, patting her head until she had somewhat calmed down.
Shiva reached for her tiny bottle of water, and handed it over to Raavi, who made sure she had sipped some of it before setting it aside.
"Janu, koi baat nahi. Koi bad monster nahi hai. Only Mumma and Papa are there." Raavi cooed, but Janhavi didn't budge.
Raavi thought and thought, until something struck her.
Janhavi loved hugs.
"Janu, you know," She cooed in her ears, "Family huggie karne se saare monsters whoosh ho jaate hai."
Janhavi looked up at Raavi with teary eyes, "Really?"
"Really!" Raavi wiped her tears and looked at Shiva. "Family huggie karne se monsters whoosh ho jaate hai, hai na Papa?"
She signalled Shiva with her eyes, and Shiva nodded hastily. "Haa, Janu. Saare monsters phurrr ho jaayenge!"
"Really?" Janhavi asked with puppy eyes.
"Really, my love." He caressed her head softly.
Janhavi considered their statements, before reaching out to Shiva and beckoning him with her tiny palms. He scooted over and kissed her palms, before pulling her and Raavi into a warm hug.
"Go monster!" She pointed at the corner, before going back to her warm cuddles and snuggles, feeling much better and safer in their arms.
"You want to sleep in Papa and Mumma's room?" Shiva asked her gently, and she nodded, putting her arms around Raavi's neck.
"Can you throw the monster away?" Janhavi asked, and Shiva nodded.
Raavi picked up Janhavi in her arms and carried her to the room, as Shiva waited for a few minutes for effect, before turning off the lights of Janhavi's room and settling in his own room.
Janu had already fallen asleep, sandwiched between Raavi and Shiva, snuggling under the warm covers and reaching out to cuddle closer to Raavi.
Raavi kissed her head and tucked her in, promising to still make her chocolate cake with extra choco-chips for being a brave girl.
Shiva reached over to check if his baby was sleeping, before leaning over to kiss Raavi's cheek and whispering,
"Good job, Mumma."
"You too, Papa."
