epilogue ; alternate ending
My first epilogue was rushed and I had no time to think of a good idea to end my story, so I ended it happily on a high note. It was cliché looking back on it and the problem is that I honestly don't enjoy cliché things, so, although it's a bit late, I decided to write an alternate ending ;)
3 Years Later
January 21
3:43pm
I rushed through the streets of Manhattan, my heels clicking against the concrete as I balanced my bag on my shoulder and a coffee in my hand.
I had just left a meeting and was now on my way home to help my roommate, Sophia.
Sophia needed much help for a date tonight. She spoke to him and they planned to go out, but from what she's told me he's very hot and she needed much assistance in getting ready.
Once I swung the door to our apartment open, only to see that it was trashed.
Clothes were being later out all over the furniture, and the couches had been pushed to the side of the room.
Sophia was running around, back and forth from her room to the living room. Her hair was crazy and her eyes were wide.
"Whoa!" I exclaimed, dropped my bag from my shoulder and hanging it on a hook.
"Help me!" She yelled.
"Calm down," I reassured her, taking small steps in her direction. "You have two hours."
She grimaced and so I grabbed her by the shoulders and forced her down on a chair.
"Stay here and let me doll you up, okay?" She nodded grimly, and I I looked around our living room for something she could wear.
"Dress?" I asked. "Are you going somewhere fancy?"
She nodded. "Nothing too fancy though, just formal."
I nodded my head and continued my search for the perfect dress.
I finally picked out a red, airy dress for my friend to wear. It stopped just above her knees and exposed an appropriate amount of skin for a first date.
She slipped it on and I smiled. She looked gorgeous, twirling around in front of the mirror.
"He's going to love it," I gushed, causing my friend to flush.
"I hope so," she said. "I've been waiting to go out with him forever."
She let me start doing her hair, and I listened to her talk about the date she was so excited to see.
She jumped in her seat, a notification alert cutting off her sentence.
I continued her hair as she picked up her phone to read the message. I jumped back as she put her phone down and stood up in a rush.
She grabbed me by the arm and started dragging me in the direction of the big pile of clothes found in the center of our living room.
"What are you doing?" I asked her. "Is your dress not appropriate?"
"My dress is fine," she said. "But we need to find a dress for you. He wants to turn this into a double date!"
Oh no, I thought. I wasn't exactly in the mood to meet a new face, never mind go on a date.
"Sophia..." I whined, as my friend threw dresses out of her way as she searched for the perfect one.
"Brooklyn," she whined back. "This would look great on you!" She exclaimed, pulling up a cute black dress, a similar style to hers but more simple.
"Are you sure I should go out with you?" I asked her. "This is supposed to be your night."
She shoved the dress into my arms. "He's inviting his other friend, so that makes this our night." She grinned at me and ushered me into the other room to change.

"So, how did you meet this mystery date of yours?" I asked Sophia.
We were currently waiting in front of the restaurant for the other two boys to arrive. I felt slightly underdressed as I watched couples stride into the restaurant, wearing very mature outfits.
"Well," she started. "My sister invited me to one of her boyfriend's parties and told me I might like this guy." She smirked and spread her fingers. "So I met him, and he's the most gorgeous thing ever."
I laughed, showing off my teeth. "He's that hot?"
She nodded and bit her lip. "Hella hot."
Her eyes caught sight of something behind me, and her face lightened in excitement. She rushed passed me and into her date's embrace. But once I got a look at his face, my breath caught in my throat.
I watched silently as he gave her a peck on the cheek, and they pulled apart. Another guy stood behind him, who I would assume was Jackson's friend. He was a handsome fellow. Broad shoulders obviously ripped underneath his clothes. Most likely some other jock Jackson had befriended.
"Jackson," She cooed, "this is my roommate Brooklyn." She opened her arms in my direction, and finally, he noticed me. His face dropped when we made eye contact, and he could only do as much as stare. The moment felt longer than it should have been. He seemed very shocked, as much as I was to see him.
It had been a few years since either of us had spoken. We broke up a little while after I had graduated. It's not that I stopped loving him, he always had a place in my heart, but we were young and fresh out of high school. We just thought we were too young for that kind of commitment and responsibility.
Luckily, Sophia didn't notice and continued her pleasant introduction. She motioned towards my date, and asked him, "Now what may your name be?"
He smiled smugly and stuck out his hand. "Kennedy Lawson."
"Nice to meet you." She smiled and shook his hand.
Kennedy turned to me, his eyes quickly looking me up and down before sticking out his hand with a smirk. "Care to put a name to this beautiful face?"
I could see Jackson jaw tighten slightly. I smiled tightly before reaching over to shake his hand. "Brooklyn."
"What a pleasure to meet you, Brooklyn." He told me.
"Pleasure's all mine," I assured him with a small smile.
Sophia gently clapped her hands together. "Shall we get on?" She turned on her heels and led the three of us into the restaurant and to our table. We took our seats, and I avoided Jackson's graze.
To avoid conversation with any of my three companions, I buried my face into the menu, pretending to be very interested in my dinner options.
Sophia proper her shoulders on to the table. "So, Kennedy and Jackson, share your friendship with us if you please."
Jackson took in a breath. "Well, we met in our first year, which was three years ago. I would say Ken's my closest friend, and we do most things together."
"Hence why Jackson suggested a double date," Kennedy went on, and gave me a suggestive look. "and I sure was right to come."
I cleared my throat and turned to my friend. "Hannah works here, right? What did she suggest?"
"Oh, right!" Sophia said, turning her attention to her menu. "She recommends one of their steaks." She pointed to it on the menu.
I took a moment to go over the menu and skim my options while Sophia waves over a waiter.
"So," Kennedy started after our orders had been placed. "What are you majoring in, Brooklyn?"
"Kinesiology," I told him. "I enjoy sports, so I wanted to get into something that involves the body."
He nodded. "Nice. I'm in business, but I don't really need it. I'm going in inherit my dad's business."
"Your dad owns a business?" Sophia questioned, her eyes lighting up. "My dad too!"
"Oh really? Yeah, my dad's company has a long line of hockey equipment."
"I love hockey!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "It's always been part of my family. I played it with my brother growing up. I don't play it too much anymore, but my brother recently got a hockey scholarship."
Kennedy raised his eyebrows. "Wow, that's impressive. Yeah, I used to play hockey a lot when I was little too, but I found a greater interest in basketball and that's how I ended up here."
The two of them seemed to have a very great interest in each other, so I started to tune out of their conversation. I took my time to observe the other couples eating peacefully together, as I tried to ignore the pair of eyes that watched me.
Kennedy reached over to grab his glass of water, but it tipped over and water spilled all over my dress.
I jumped up and so did he, and I tried grabbing a napkin to dry myself with, while Kennedy muttered a string of apologies.
"It's okay, really," I assured him with a small smile.
"Are you sure?" He asked with a weary face.
I nodded. "Yeah, I may just need a bit of fresh air."
He nodded understandingly and Sophia raised her eyebrows? "Are you sure you're alright? I can come with you?"
I shook my head. "I'm good, I swear. I just want a breather."
She slowly returned to her conversation, and I exited the restaurant and followed a small path outside, which was filled narrowly with a plethora of flowers. I stopped to admire them and watched as the light coming from the windows of the restaurant lit up the colours of the flowers.
"Are you okay?"
I turned to see Jackson, standing a few feet away from me. It was harder to see his face in the dim lighting, but I knew his voice well enough to be certain it was him.
"Yeah," I smiled, "I'm good, thanks."
We simply stood there, both of us holding a stare. It didn't feel awkward, and it didn't feel uncomfortable. It felt warm, comforting, and familiar.
"Still playing basketball?" I asked him, with a tilt to my head.
His smile grew. "Yeah, but I don't think I could carry it out as a profession even if I wanted to." He looked away and sighed. "I'm currently in business because there are so many branches for that but I'm considering maybe something similar along the lines of what you're doing." He looked back up at me. "Maybe medicine or health."
I nodded understandingly. Without realizing it, I had taken a few steps closer to him. I looked up at the sky, and watched as the stars shone, making the night feel a little bit brighter.
"You look beautiful tonight," I looked back down to meet Jackson's eyes. "But you look beautiful no matter the occasion."
I smiled. "Still a charmer, aren't you?"
He chuckled. "Only for you." He sighed again and furrowed his brows. "Want to go to Taco Bell?"
I couldn't help to suppress the laugh that bubbled in my throat. "Taco Bell? What about Sophia an Kennedy?"
He shrugged and gave me a sheepish smile. "They seem to be enjoying themselves, they won't notice. Plus, it would nice to catch up after all this time."
"Yeah," I smiled. "It would be."

Also, I'm thinking about entering this story for The Wattys... should I?
That's all! And like I've said, stick around for bonus chapters! What are some bonus chapters you guys would like to see?
