Chapter 22: I'm Here
"I'm... so sorry that happened to you..." Jimin replied and looked up to the man with concern weighing down his innocent gaze. He couldn't focus on the fear he had of being watched before so, he allowed curiosity to fill his head to the point where he wasn't anxious being in a public place. "Could that creation really be out there?"
"It's only a thought of mine... a thought in which I fear... but, knowing how perfect Kim Seokjin wanted his creations to be, I doubt he would ever let any flawed creation out there. He absolutely despised the flaws in his creations and became a perfectionist on what he created with his hands. He's truly gifted... coding, hacking, building... there is no room for mistakes so I just think that IF the creation is out there..." Namjoon took a moment and leaned his head in towards Jimin. "He's probably hiding under a rock to avoid getting reported and caught by the big guy. It would be no surprise that Seokjin would be looking for him."
"But how could he look for him if his right hand man tried his best to hide the creation from him?"
"Well, of course Seokjin was able to see my injury. He just couldn't find the android because that right hand man of his, protected the android at all costs. I was fed up and I left. Deep down I hope they dismantled him by now... but surely they wouldn't make an announcement about a violent android on the loose, that will scare everyone!"
"It's true, they would pull all androids and that will be the end of eternal bliss for those who rely on them heavily," Jimin replied and sat back against the chair. "I don't... think that creation is out there. I haven't seen any news about anyone getting hurt."
"Either there are people getting hurt and Seokjin does a good job in covering it up, or the abomination is hiding. My money is on the second option... that creation was intelligent, envious, manipulative, mischievous, jealous, and I blame that man who protected him completely."
"Do you remember the name of that man?"
"I never learned his name. In fact, I never saw his face. He was more of my boss' boss... part of the higher ups like Seokjin. Though, I only met Seokjin once when I reported the incident," Namjoon replied and shook his head right after. "Other than that, I can't recall anything from that android... only his blue eyes but all androids have those eyes."
"Well, I'm sure it's not out there..." Jimin assured Namjoon and moved his hand over just to pat the man's hand carefully. At first, Jimin was a little startled. He couldn't recall touching the skin of another human being in such a long time, the feeling became foreign to him. "I.... I'm sorry..."
"No, no, don't feel sorry..." Namjoon replied and made a big smile. "I don't mind your efforts to comfort me. I appreciate it."
Jimin began to warm up to the idea of making a friend all on his own without too much of a push. Right now, he was glad to make a friend with a living and breathing person. Jungkook was a great android to rely on, but at the end of the day, he wasn't human and Jimin just knew he couldn't stick to a creation all the time. He needed to speak to someone who could cry with him, understand his issues and be able to reply back with anything random and not automatic. However, it didn't hide the fact that Jimin began to have a soft spot for Jeon Jungkook and he was sure it had nothing to do with his old feelings for Min Yoongi that had attached themselves to an android close by that reminded Jimin of him in a few ways.
"If you plan on staying, I'll get you something on the house and if you stay until after my shift is over, we could go out and get some dinner, I could even drive you home if you don't have a car," suggested the man with a smile Jimin just couldn't say no to. Jimin could tell the man was desperate for human interaction after so long and that alone left Jimin to pity him. "We humans gotta stick together, right?"
Jimin let out a laugh and nodded his head right after. "I'd love that, thank you."
"Great. I need to return to my shift, so I'll bring you something in a bit," Namjoon promised and got up from his seat before walking away.
All at that moment, Jimin sat at the table and thought of Jungkook. He hoped that he wouldn't have to keep bothering the android to sleep with him or even stay with him every day since he realized that he wasn't going to learn how to be independent through that. This was what being on your own felt like to Jimin; making connections all on your own without having to be pushed to do it, and making plans for the day without needing to be locked up inside from the fear and clinging onto someone as protection all the time. For once, Jimin didn't hate being outside.
Right before the sun began to set, Jimin had spent the day getting to know Namjoon more and enjoyed being friends with another human. He had forgotten the joys and surprises that came with talking to another human that was far more better than speaking to an android that was limited to many things. The young man couldn't imagine a life where he had another human being by his side to talk about things androids weren't capable of speaking about. This interaction was assuring to the young man and allowed him to step out of his comfort zone for a while.
By the time Namjoon was driving Jimin home, they were cracking jokes and the older man began to notice more about Jimin and how different he became after breaking out of his shell. This was something Namjoon enjoyed seeing that only left him reminiscing on how similar they truly were.
"So, you did have a small crush on Kim Seokjin!" Jimin spoke up into a sly and teasing tone to his voice. "Why didn't you tell him?"
"Oh come on, it was just an infatuation! Besides, who wouldn't? It's a sin if you didn't find yourself having a crush on that man. He's a prince! In fact, I believe most people chose that job because of him. I know I did."
"You said you saw him in person, how was that like for you?"
"Surprisingly, he wasn't dressed in the most expensive suits ever made. Kim Seokjin would always wear sweatpants and a jacket with circular glasses sitting in front of his eyes. He looks just like anyone else would. But even with that, his charm still managed to seep through. Too bad I just couldn't keep working there....Although, I wouldn't be talking to him every day. It was rare to see him in the testing department."
"I can tell he must be a great boss," Jimin mentioned and watched Namjoon shrug as he pulled into the familiar neighborhood once the sun began to set.
"I can't really tell if he was or not. At the end of the day, I never knew him personally. He only focused on his androids and was kind to his workers when it came to benefiting the creations. But very closed off."
"Ah... I can see why he longed to create these androids... maybe he felt lonely too-"
"What the fuck?" Namjoon interrupted as his gaze locked onto Jimin's house once the GPS notified him that he had reached his destination. As Namjoon's eyes fixed towards Jimin's house, his gaze remained locked onto the android that stood before Jimin's front door in the cold weather.
"What are you- oh, don't worry, that's Jungkook. He's a friend," Jimin replied and looked off to see Jungkook standing right at the door as he raised his hand and continued to knock. "I wonder how long he's been standing there."
"Is that an android?" Namjoon asked curiously as his eyes still locked onto the back of the creation's head. Carefully taking note that the android only had a black turtleneck sweater on, blue ripped jeans and black boots. Not wearing the appropriate attire for this weather. "It has to be."
"Yeah, he's an android," Jimin replied and made sure he brought along the bag of his leftovers from dinner with Namjoon. "I'll see you around, it was great to see you today. We should do this again sometime."
"Oh... yeah, of course..." Namjoon replied, not taking a second to look back at Jimin since his gaze was occupied by the android standing right at the door. Knocking constantly until he would get an answer. "The cold seems to be affecting his system, let him know that he should get himself checked."
"Ah, of course!" Jimin replied and finally opened the car door and stepped out. "Thank you for everything!" continued the man. With the sound of his soft voice piercing through the cold breeze, Jungkook's head slowly raised up and his hand lowered from knocking once again.
Namjoon nodded his head at Jimin yet remained parked there as he watched the boy walk up to the android standing at the door. There, Namjoon only looked away and fixed his gaze at the scar he carried. Even if he worked with Androids every day, he just couldn't seem to wrap his head around the idea of ever being close to one. He wanted to say he was envious of Jimin and how easily he was able to approach an android and not feel afraid at first, but then again, Namjoon didn't want to have that ability. He only hoped to keep Jimin close by since he was a human and incapable of needing another to test him and see if he was fit to be placed into the world.
Once Namjoon began to drive off, he couldn't help but to look at the rear view mirror and gaze at the figure of the two standing close together. Just the sight of the creation standing before Jimin was enough to leave Namjoon feeling a bit off as he traced his index finger along the scar on his forearm. Becoming uncomfortable the longer he looked at the android Jimin was friends with.
"I didn't think you would be waiting for me... how long have you waited?" Jimin asked as Jungkook's eyes followed the car that just dropped Jimin off, driving away until it was out of sight. "Jungkook...?"
"Oh, not too long," Jungkook answered as he finally latched those bright blue eyes onto Jimin's sweet honey-like gaze. The second he looked into his eyes were enough to leave Jimin turning red almost instantly.
"You could have called me, I would have come back sooner," Jimin stated, taking out his keys as he walked forward to unlock the door. However, Jungkook only stood in his way and blocked him from taking another step. "Jungkook!"
"Who's your boyfriend?~"
"Ah, enough with the teasing! He's just a friend," the young man dismissed the thought with a soft giggle and watched as Jungkook moved out of his way in order to let him unlock the front door.
Just as the two stepped in and the door closed behind them, Jungkook reached for Jimin's hand and stopped him right at his place. Preventing him from walking any further when the android held onto his wrist so gently.
"You seemed pretty busy today... I thought you didn't like going out."
"I... I just wanted to try something different," Jimin replied and turned around to face Jungkook. That was when the android before him let go of his wrist.
The two stood in the dark house where only the orange tones of the sunset began to shine through the cracks of the closed curtains. The sound of Jungkook's warm voice was enough to assure Jimin, yet those eyes... those eerie eyes that always tended to give him the chills, remained latched onto his own to the point where he just couldn't think of anything else but Jungkook at that very second.
"Sorry I didn't call to let you know about my plans... I just didn't want to feel like I was being watched. If I stayed here, I would only drown in fear and I wouldn't want to rely on you for everything... I need to learn to-"
"No you don't...." Jungkook answered instantly and stepped forward to the innocent man standing before him. "I'm an android, I'm built to protect you."
"But what if-"
"No more what if's..." Jungkook shifted that raspy voice of his into a low whisper as he approached the young man before him until there was no space between them. "I'm all you need... forget about relying too much on me, forget about the what if's and others... I'm all you need..." Jungkook whispered and held Jimin in his arms. "I'm made for this... I'm made for your protection... alright?"
"Alright..." Jimin whispered as the side of his face was pressed against the Android's chest.
Comforting and certainty filled his mind as his eyes closed and imagined standing in a warm field where it was just the two of them. At this point, the sound of his heart began to pound consistently, yet, his arms strayed away from hugging the android back. He was just a little too shy to even hug the android back when his mind was already in the clouds with Jeon Jungkook.
"I'm all you need..." Jungkook whispered once more. Saying all the right words to Jimin yet, the colors of his gaze only shifted into a dark green as it remained bouncing onto a few random objects within the living room in his perspective. "I'm here..."
