Chapter 17: My Protection
There it was again. Somehow in his sleep, Jimin felt the hairs on his neck stand, yet, he remained there; hugging a pillow so close to his body as a sense of protection when he knew too well that a pillow couldn't save him. His arms around the center grew tighter in his sleep until the soft cushion began to grow solid as if he truly held onto another.
The feeling was familiar; a gentle grip that was enough to bind their bodies left Jimin reminiscing of his past relationship where he was able to hold onto another this carefully. With that, Jimin felt at ease and didn't question if this was all just a dream, but then again, why would he? Being alone weeks after Yoongi was deactivated was enough to make him miss the touch of another, Jimin felt safer even if he was still catching onto a strong case of gaze detection.
"Do I keep you safe?"
A low voice echoed in Jimin's head as he felt every beat of his heart falling in sync with the one he clung onto, the gentle exhales and the subtle vibration to every word soothed his worries and distracted him from whatever was watching him.
"Who... is this?" Jimin's thoughts echoed within the room. At that moment, Jimin just knew that he was living in a dream he didn't want to wake up from.
"Jimin... sleep here..."
The familiar voice called to him once more as a soothing spell Jimin was drawn to. With that, the young man slowly raised his head and guided his hands along the figure of the breathing creation before him. Once his gaze met the one he held onto, he caught onto the familiar blue eyes that were the epitome of all his fears of losing another. Jimin's eyes met with the pale skin of the creation before him; oddly, he seemed too real; the heartbeat, the breathing, the warming vibrations to his voice, it was all too real! Yet, Jimin just wished it was all true.
"Min... Yoongi..." Jimin whispered and teared up at the sight of the creation before him.
"How could you forget about me?"
When the sense of being watched became too much for him to ignore, Jimin suddenly jolted awake from his dream; a dream he strayed away from calling a nightmare. Jimin sprung up from the bed and teared up at the memory of losing the one he never knew he missed so much. His heart ached and the tears in his eyes became an endless waterfall. Just the idea of Yoongi feeling real as if he was human, left Jimin wishing it was all a reality. Deep down, Jimin hasn't ever thought of letting Yoongi go especially now since his deactivation was just a few weeks ago. The torture was recent and the tears were still fresh; in no way did Jimin fully believe he moved on, rather, just distract himself from reality.
Instantly, Jimin let out a frustrated shout as the piercing feeling of a gaze still managed to haunt him. He just couldn't remember when was the last time he had a decent amount of sleep. Way before the horrid gaze detection would keep him up at night, the memory of losing Yoongi filled that position for many weeks. It was an endless cycle where he could never find himself at peace, just with the endless feeling of being watched, Jimin just knew he couldn't be alone any longer.
Jimin let out an exhale and tried to calm himself down, yet, it was no use. The darts that followed his every move became sharper by the second until he began to bleed. Right at that moment, Jimin reached for his phone close by and suddenly hid under the covers like a child; he only hoped to cling onto Jeon Jungkook now since he was able to keep him calm before. Jungkook served as his protector along with a good friend.
The light of the phone screen lit up Jimin's eyes as the calming blue hues of the ocean tended to distract him for a second longer. Jimin wanted to sit back and ponder the dream he had of Yoongi, but of course, he couldn't clear his own mind out of the endless fear that lived within it. Jimin quickly unlocked his phone and tapped onto his contacts in order to call Jungkook.
Within seconds, Jimin's fingers slid down to the Android's number and began to call, hoping Jungkook would be able to answer at this hour. Just as Jimin remained underneath the covers, his body was curled onto the center of the bed again while he clung onto his phone now. Longing for the soothing and comforting sound to Jungkook's voice again to put him at ease.
"Hello, Jimin," Jungkook called out in a raspy whisper that was enough to comfort the terrified human with just those words. "It's really late to be calling right now, are you afraid?"
"J-Jungkook... I feel like someone... something... is staring at me..." Jimin spoke into broken whispers while Jungkook took another second before letting out a chuckle. "I-I'm serious!"
"Jimin, calm down, I can assure you that it's all in your head! If it helps you sleep, Robots are not built to stalk, they are built to protect and please humans. In no way should you feel afraid... unless it's a human watching you, then I can't promise you anything."
"Jungkook... you're s-scaring me." Jimin couldn't seem to move his body at all nor did he feel as if he could speak louder than a whisper, his arm wrapped around himself as he continued to listen to Jungkook's voice and his own breathing that began to speak louder than his own words.
"Jimin, calm down... breathe in and breathe out... don't rush it, okay?" Jungkook was gentle with his words as if he carefully cherry-picked them just to soothe Jimin with his voice. This alone left the young man trembling under the covers, no matter how much Jungkook comforted him, Jimin knew the second the android stopped talking, was when he would focus on the uneasy feeling that always tended to haunt him. "Talk to me... about anything..."
"There is no other living person or creation at my house, right? Please check for me, Jungkook!" Jimin begged and could already imagine Jungkook's teasing smile after hearing that. "Stop smiling!"
"How did you know I was smiling? Are you watching me, Jimin?~" Jungkook teased in order to distract Jimin from his fears, but he already knew that the young man wasn't going to move on from his fears. "Jimin, don't panic... I can come over if you want just to check and maybe I can stay..."
"No... no, you don't have to..."
"You won't sleep at all if I don't come over. Losing sleep is bad for your health, I can stay but I will have to leave in the morning to recharge. Is that alright with you?"
"Jungkook, you can just stay... stay here on the line with me... in time I will be distracted and it will leave me alone!" Jimin continued. In reality, Jimin almost wanted Jungkook to come over just so he could feel safe. Jimin absolutely hated the idea of being watched so he was desperate just like before. However, he didn't want to ruin the friendship he had with Jungkook over this and only hoped to lessen the constant idea of using him as protection. Whatever this was, Jimin was sure that it wouldn't go away so suddenly.
"Come on Jimin, I'm an android. Let me help you, I can assure you that I don't mind it at all," Jungkook became persistent to the point where Jimin had no other choice but to let Jungkook come over. Jimin wasn't against it since deep down, he wanted to feel safe within the eyes of another.
"Okay.. fine, I... I will meet you at the door... tell me when you're here..." Jimin continued to whisper until Jungkook hung up and left him alone with the tortuous stare that was locked onto him from afar. Jimin just wished he knew where it was coming from. "He hung up..." Jimin thought and kept his thoughts occupied while he waited. "Jungkook... hurry..."
As Jungkook approached the front door, he suddenly picked up footsteps following behind him and every step he took, was another that fell in sync with his in a pattern. However, after hearing a step out of place, Jungkook suddenly stopped and looked back to see Hoseok standing right behind him.
"Going out a little late, aren't we?"
"Hoseok... What do you want?" Jungkook asked and completely faced the human. Jungkook wanted to confront Hoseok about many things; many things he learned from Jimin, but as intelligent this robot was, he knew exactly how to play the waiting game so perfectly. With that in mind, Jungkook refrained and only glared at the man before him. Wanting to see how far he was willing to go before he cracked.
"Don't ask me questions, where are you going? You should be recharging," Hoseok mentioned and folded his arms right after tilting his head. The way his dark blue robe hugged his body only gave him more of a parental look towards the android and he knew this very well. Hoseok was always overprotective especially since he was well aware of how different Jungkook was.
"I'm charged up for now, I will be back soon to recharge again," Jungkook answered and right as he turned around, Hoseok grabbed onto his wrist and held him back. Instantly leaving Jungkook to have small specs of red sprinkled along his blue gaze. "What is it now, you pick up a bad signal of 'those people' coming to find me, again?"
"Jungkook, stop teasing. You know I care about you and I don't want to see them take you away from me! Where are you going?" Hoseok asked as Jungkook quickly snatched his arm away. "Answer me, Jungkook, I just want to make sure that you're safe!"
"I am safe, I'm only going to spend a few hours with Jimin. If you need me I will be at his place," Jungkook concluded and turned around right after.
"Jungkook, one last thing."
"What?"
"Disobey me again and I won't hesitate to turn you off for a while," Hoseok shot back; watching Jungkook stand there with a slight smirk to his plump lips and his brow to raise so abruptly at the sound of the human's threat.
"Are you threatening me, Hoseok? What has gotten into you?~"
"Don't make this a joke, Jungkook. I want to keep you safe and if you don't comply, I will have to turn you off until I am ready to have you walk around freely in this house again. I could turn you off, you know... but I care about you too much to keep you off in the back of the room collecting dust. You're too special and far too different from any other android out there..."
"I wonder why..."
"Don't ask questions you know I won't answer. Besides, you didn't say anything to Jimin, right?"
"Tell Jimin about what?" Jungkook lied and continued with the usual smirk into a smile. "You have nothing to worry about, Hoseok. Jimin is a sweet boy. He's gentle, cute, shy... I could go on about him! A human who knows nothing about all my flaws and what pieces were used to create me. He's absolutely clueless about me, you and I..." the android continued to lie and managed to keep a calm tone to his voice where his eyes only displayed the ocean blue.
"Alright, I trust you. I trust that you won't say a word and I trust that you wouldn't harm this one, okay?"
"Okay."
"Well, go now before I change my mind," the man concluded and pinpointed the second Jungkook's eyes fell from the red specs to the regular color of his blue eyes.
Hoseok knew very well that Jungkook always became frustrated when he would speak to the human before him. It was something Hoseok had grown used to but it always tended to take him a step back the very first second he would see it in Jungkook's eyes. Just the sight and thought of Jungkook growing upset was what scared Hoseok the most so he fought everything within him to make sure Jungkook wouldn't be upset. Of course, that only enabled the android to keep stepping over the human constantly and hide his mischievous persona behind the comforting raspy voice he used.
"Jimin... Park Jimin..." Hoseok said to himself the second Jungkook left the house. "It seems that Park Jimin has caught the robot's attention... what could go wrong with something as innocent as that?"
