Chapter 12: A Lost Cause
As hours slipped by, Jimin eventually woke up in the late afternoon. His eyes slowly pulled apart when the bright orange sunlight reflected upon Jimin's brown eyes. The young man's gaze latched onto the ceiling before he noticed that his hand was being held. At that moment, Jimin couldn't dare to look to his side. No matter how warm his hand felt, he just couldn't think of holding the Android's hand in his sleep and automatically became embarrassed.
"What's wrong with me?" Jimin questioned himself in his head. Slowly, he guided his focus onto the robot that was kneeling by the bed with his head down and his hand trapped in Jimin's small grasp. The sight of it alone was warming, yet, Jimin just couldn't focus and was left frozen in fear as to what Jungkook would say afterwards.
Once Jimin began to fear many possibilities in his head, he suddenly caught onto the way Jungkook's shoulders moved; mimicking the way a living person would breathe. The way he moved seemed too realistic; his body rose slowly and sank further onto the mattress below him once he let out an exhale. This caused Jimin to hesitate when he thought of pulling his hand away; in a sense, Jimin understood that Jungkook wasn't human and surely robots like him didn't mind the truth after all, right?
As Jimin continued to watch over Jungkook, he lost himself in the sight of him. He kept his gaze onto the robot and began to finally memorize all the details on his face; the little mole under his nose, the smooth touch to his skin and the hairs on his eyebrows adding onto such a firm look. Just before, he could never find himself outlining all the small details on Jungkook's face, but now, he was able to do so when he knew Jungkook wasn't staring right back at him with those sapphire-like eyes.
"He looks less intimidating now... Why does he make me feel so nervous? I know he won't mean any harm; when I speak to him, he seems gentle and calm... his voice is the most comforting thing in the world, I never thought I could feel at ease. But, when he looks at me... I feel weird... is this normal? Is it because after losing Yoongi... I just can't seem to look at another android without feeling as if something is bound to happen? No... that can't be it... I don't feel this way when I look at Taehyung," Jimin thought and kept his hand latched onto the robot before him. "I knew Taehyung way before Jungkook and Yoongi... so it could be the fact that I have yet to learn so much more about Jungkook."
Right in the middle of his own thoughts, Jungkook's eyes pulled awake so suddenly and caused Jimin to flinch before looking away and pulling his own hand back from Jungkook's touch. The second Jungkook looked into his eyes, Jimin began to feel a rush of guilt for staring too long and hoped Jungkook couldn't smell his fears.
"Hello, Jimin... if I knew you wanted someone to sleep with, you could have just said so..." Jungkook whispered and watched Jimin turn his body away completely. With that, the young android only smirked and got up before crawling onto the bed completely.
Jimin began to sink onto the bed the second he felt Jungkook climb onto it. Moments like these just left Jimin to reminisce on those memories when he did have someone else filling that other side of his bed, so, he didn't panic at all but remained frozen in place as long as he didn't lock eyes with Jungkook. Yet, that mindset was inevitable by now.
"Talk to me, Jimin... I'm a little curious..." Jungkook continued to speak into a whisper that was enough to set Jimin at ease, but also cause a chill to run down his spine. At this second, Jimin just couldn't pinpoint what made him feel on edge when he was around the android.
"I... I... I'm sorry, introverted androids may not like physical contact and I understand that... I wasn't thinking..." Jimin managed to sputter. His eyes locked onto the side of the room when all the noise went silent. This alone left him embarrassed; constantly touching his own face for comfort but it was never enough. The young man believed he crossed the line and made Jungkook uncomfortable, but that wasn't what Jungkook felt at all. In fact, the android was enjoying the sight of this.
Suddenly, Jungkook began to laugh; his laugh managed to break through the ice that trapped Jimin in place and allowed him to loosen up the muscles he didn't know were tightened in the first place.
"Oh, Jimin! What do you think I meant by that? I apologize for the inconvenience, I'm not upset..." Jungkook assured and waited for Jimin to turn around, but the more he waited, the more impatient he became. This alone caused Jungkook to lay back onto the bed in order to get Jimin's attention. "I'm only curious... about you holding my hand while you slept and the feeling of you watching me while I had my eyes shut.... I wasn't sleeping at all. Park Jimin, are you a creep?~"
"I-AH, NO!" Jimin replied and finally turned around to see the android laying in the spot another used to fill. In that instance, Jimin always believed that he would never live to see the day that he would be okay with having another fill that spot, let alone, another robot, but it didn't harm him in any way. Jimin felt nothing with the sight of Jungkook laying there. He assumed he was going to be upset at himself for allowing another to sit on his bed, but his heart didn't ache at the sight of Jungkook sitting on what used to be Yoongi's side of the bed.
"Park Jimin... a creep towards robots... Ah, what are you going to do now? Set up hidden cameras in my house?" Jungkook continued to tease. Knowing well that this was what made Jimin look at him longer than he could. "Jimin~"
"Ah, I hate this joke!" Jimin began to laugh as he couldn't dare himself to turn away from Jungkook now. He was looking into the eyes of the robot. Despite picking up the nerve racking feeling with just gazing into his eyes, that feeling deteriorated into nothing for just that second but was sure to return eventually. "I'm not a creep!"
"Really?~" Jungkook asked in an intrigued tone to the playful side of him. "Why were you watching me in my sleep?"
"I just... ah... I... I was just looking at you... I noticed you were breathing and wondered why and then I began to look at you. I wouldn't look at you for that long when you're awake..."
"I was awake, I just had my eyes closed, that's all. I can't power off until I'm back at my house. This isn't where I can recharge, it's not my house. So, I guess you can say I was in 'sleep' mode. But I only tend to do that in order to conserve energy."
"Oh... I'm sorry," Jimin apologized and right before he looked away, Jungkook quickly sat up and moved his face closer to Jimin in a way that instantly caused a red hue to emerge on the apples of Jimin's cheeks.
"Stop apologizing, Park Jimin. If I didn't like it, I would have told you by now. I think it's sweet, don't think I hate you for it," Jungkook assured the human before guiding his blue gaze from Jimin's beautiful honey-like gaze that always tended to come off sweet to Jungkook, down to his plump lips. "Jimin..."
"Y-Yes...?"
"Are you hungry?" Jungkook suddenly asked and changed the conversation. Instantly moving his gaze onto Jimin's eyes right after. But the second he looked into Jimin's eyes, Jimin only turned away. Breaking the contact they shared.
"Ah... no not really..."
"Well, you have to eat something, you didn't eat all day," Jungkook mentioned before taking a second to add onto what he just said. "Well... I'm assuming you haven't..."
"I don't... I don't want to go out right now."
"Come on, I'm not asking to leave. I can help make you something... even if I can't eat, I can still cook."
"How do you know if your cooking is good?"
"Well, my roommate says I'm pretty good at it even if I can't develop a taste for things."
"I'm sure he's only saying that to make you feel better..."
"Well, let's make something together then," the charming android suggested. "I'm sure you can cook, right?"
"I... I haven't cooked for myself in weeks..." Jimin confessed and kept his eyes latched onto an empty space in between framed photos where another frame used to sit but was no longer there. "I just don't think I'm up for it..."
"Is it... something that makes you feel lonely or-"
"No... no, it's nothing!" Jimin quickly replied and stood up from the bed in seconds. "I... I don't mind doing it with you, let's do it now!"
"Jimin... your choice of words are very.. interesting," Jungkook added on and watched the crimson color drown out Jimin's pale face instantly.
"THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT I- Ah, you're a very playful android, aren't you? I didn't know introverted Android's were like this..."
"Oh, Jimin, we can all be under an introverted type, but come with our own differences," Jungkook assured and followed behind Jimin the second he stood up. "If you don't want to cook, I will do it for you, but I can't promise you it will taste good. I don't know what your tastes are."
Jungkook's words sounded familiar and even the idea of cooking with another sounded too familiar as well. The human stood there and only smiled to himself after hearing Jungkook's words before nodding his head afterwards. "I'll join you," he said. Despite not touching the stove in a while, Jimin finally thought it was a good idea and jumped back onto the suggestion. Not wanting to resent cooking at home after having another accompany him after so long.
Eventually, the two moved to the kitchen where Jungkook only found leftovers in Jimin's fridge; nothing good to cook with and that left the robot to tilt his head at the sight of many things lacking in the fridge. Jungkook truly began to believe the fact that Jimin refrained from cooking after such a long time but for a reason Jungkook just couldn't know.
"I will order groceries for you, Jimin," Jungkook mentioned and watched as the human raised his eyes onto the android and shook his head.
"No... no, that's fine, I can do it! I am the only one eating, right? It's only fair that I do it. You don't have to..."
"If I order it, it's under human support so it's automatically free. Are you sure?"
"Y-Yes... it's fine, I can get it," Jimin assured the robot and took out his phone. The second he turned it on, he was greeted to the lockscreen he kept of the beach and that caused him to stop in his place and look into it further. Completely distracting himself from the idea of ordering the groceries he needed.
Jungkook watched the way Jimin's words fell out of his thoughts; the way Jimin's eyes latched onto the lockscreen and the way he completely stopped himself from ordering groceries in order to cook, was enough to explain to Jungkook that Jimin wanted to avoid reminiscing on something. Jungkook was smart enough to see the whole painting, but not smart enough to see individual strokes that pulled the painting altogether. At the end of the day, Jungkook couldn't understand much and yet, he longed to stand by Jimin's side and hear him out in case he wanted to open up. But at the end of the day, Jimin only pushed it away since he knew androids were built to hear but never listen. To him, explaining what he felt, seemed like a lost cause.
